What a year 2012 has been. For me, personally, it was probably the hardest year of my life. My much love uncle passed away in December 2011, but then in March both my nan, and then two weeks later my father passed away. It's a gut wrenchching time and gives you a much different perspective on life (in fact with my Auntie passing away in mid-2011 I lost 4 close family members in only 9 months). There's no doubt that there will be times of sadness for many of my family this Christmas and New Years - but we're getting there. I can't stress enough how important it is to spend time with your loved ones - you just don't know how long we have on our clocks. But enough of the doom and gloom...
In terms of gaming and films 2012 has been a fantastic year with a tonne of great releases. Futuregamez wouldn't work without the generosity and support from the many publishers and distributors in Australia who provide us with sample discs to review. It's the friendships that I form with the Marketing and PR teams at these companies that I very much enjoy so I thank everyone for thier support over the year.
Of course the readers are critical to our site too. We don't have the most active forums, but I do receive e-mails from you that we enjoy reading, or receiving feedback. To all my readers - a big thank you.
We'll be returning early in the New Year so until then, have a great Christmas and New Year's celebration.

Blu-Ray Review Star Trek: The Next Generation Season 2 has been released only months after Season One hit Blu-Ray. Despite a few visual issues, this is a cracker release for all Star Trek fans with some fantastic episodes, and the addition of several brand new extras (as well as HD audio-visual presentation of course).

PS3 Review Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale is one of the most anticipated games from Sony this year. Indeed it's clear that Sony and developers Superbot have had a look at Super Smash Brothers, but this 4-player brawler includes plenty of much loved characters. Here's our full review.

Blu-Ray Review Tedis a live-action comedy from Seth MacFarlane (the creator of Family Guy, American Dad! and The Cleveland Show). Starring Mark Wahlberg and his talking teddy bear this film is crude from start to finish, but has a heart too. Indeed, this is a blast.

PS3 Review LittleBigPlanet Karting is a game many people will be checking out, if only due to the LBP title. Sackboy is making a move from platforms to the race track. In every way this a LBP title with cartoon styled levels, a sense of humour and level creation, but does it meet the high standard set by the platforming games? Review time...
Competition WIN Killer Joe & Chernobyl Diaries on Blu-Ray. Yep, you read that right. Thanks to Village Roadshow we have 5 packs including Killer Joe and Chernobyl Diaries to give away. Killer Joe is a rather dramatic tale of a young man who needs to repay some money to a drug dealer, while Paranormal Activity sees a group of tourists getting more then they bargained for when visiting a city near Chernobyl.

Blu-Ray Review Battle Royaleis one of the most controversial films of all time but thanks to Madman (and Anchor Bay in America) is now on Blu-Ray. If you enjoyed The Hunger Games, and don't mind gore, this Japanese film is great viewing and impresses on Blu-Ray.

Sony Australia have today announced that The Last Of Us will indeed launch in the land down under on May 7. The company has also released the Story trailer which is pretty phenomenal. Check it out below...
PS3 Review Far Cry 3 is one of the most entertaining shooters you'll play this year, if not during this generation of consoles. Fantastic from start to finish this game offers a lengthy campaign, very entertaining Co-Op missions, adequate multiplayer but, perhaps most entertainly, a great level editor too. Here's our review of this essential purchase...

As well as a blistering new trailer (which we're hoping to be able to embed here in the next day or two) Sony have announced that The Last Of Us will be released in May 2013, with May 7 being locked down for America (We expect Australia/Europe to be very similar). More details about the game will be posted on the official Blog on Sunday evening (so Monday morning in Australia)
NamcoBandai have announced, via a trailer at the Spike VGA's that Dark Souls 2 is currently in development for PS3, XBox 360 and PC. The game includes a new storyline and protagonist while the multiplayer is also getting revamped. No word yet on a release date though.
So here's a bit of an interesting one. At the VGA's Moby Dick Studio's showed off a trailer for The Phantom Pain. That's nice I hear you say, but what makes it interesting is the rumours that the game is actually linked to the Metal Gear Solid series. No only was Kojima in the audience, but the Swedish studio was founded by a guy named "Joakim Mogre" - shuffle the words and you have Kojima! Mogre could be short for Mogren which is a football club in Montenegro where MGS: Revengeance takes place. Not only that but the trailer refers to someone, who looks very much like Snkae, as a soldier, trying to escape what looks like a UK hospital of some kind. Metal Gear Solid 5 perhaps?

We missed this one a couple of days ago but Tecmo Koei have announced that Dynasty Warriors Empires 7 will be released on PS3 on February 21, 2013. Time will tell if this game offers much more then the myriad of fun, but all-too-similar, previous games in the franchise.
Blu-Ray Review Update
Just a quick note that last night we updated an early version of our review of The Raid. There were no significant errors, just a bit more detail in the updated review so check it out.

Keep an eye on the Playstation Store with Sony offering their 12 days of Christmas deals again. Tokyo Jungle is currently half price at $10.65, and 10% cheaper for Playstation Plus members. Other games being speculated on include LBP Karting, Far Cry 3, Sleeping Dogs and a few unknowns. You can see the speculation here.
Blu-Ray Review The Raid. After seeing this Indonesian film, all I can say is HOLY SHIT! This film, also known as The Raid: Redemption in some parts of the world, is the most brutal, action packed, manly, no holds barred film we've seen in years - and it's a complete blast that every action fan should check out.

Ninja Theory, the company currently working on the reboot DmC: Devil May Cry, have denied reports that they are also working on a reboot of Capcom's currently stagnant Onimusha franchise. In a tweet, a rep stated “We are not working on an Onimusha game. Any rumours surrounding this are untrue.” You know what they say though; where there's smoke, there's fire and we expect Capcom will not let this great franchise linger for much longer without a new title.
PS3 Review Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed was a game that Michael somewhat reluctantly had to play for reviewing on the site (yes, you have to take the good with the bad), but he needn't have worried. Indeed Michael found this latest Sega racing title to be an absolute blast giving an 85% overall score! Check out the full review now.

Square-Exix have confirmed that Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn will be hitting Alpha status next week which means the online MMORPG will be in testing for release. The original game didn't hit the PS3 of course, but here's hoping this massively reworked game is.
