PS3 Preview Dead or Alive 5 is heading to the Playstation 3. Why is that such a big deal? Well it been a long time, around a decade in fact, since we've seen Tecmo's brawler on a Sony home console (we're ignoring the rather crap PSP effort), but this fifth game is heading to PS3. Everything looks to be in place for a hit game this September.

Konami have confirmed that a second demo for Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 will be released this week. As the press release states:
The free demo will offer 11 fully-licensed teams, and benefits from a raft of subtle but important gameplay improvements since the first demo was released in July.
The new demo offers six difficulty settings, and allows the user to play ten-minute matches. Since the first demo, the Tokyo-based PES Productions team has been constantly working to analyse how to improve PES 2013, and the new demo is a perfect example of their quest for football perfection. The game’s balance between offense and defence has been equalised, and the targeting of passes using the game’s feted manual control system has been improved. Similarly, the trajectory of passes has been refined, as has the blocking by defenders, shot speed, and the ways referees officiate – including the overseeing of offside situations.
Critically, the AI when a team is passing out of a defensive situation into a potential attacking one has been fine-tuned – an essential part of a game like PES 2013, where passing and movement are central to build up play. Lobs and looping shots have also been made harder to effect, following feedback from the initial demo. Anthems for the starting line-ups have also been implemented.

Studio Liverpool Closure
In what is one of the biggest shocks, and disappointments, in recent times Sony have announced the closure of Studio Liverpool. The development studio started life as Psygnosis in 1984 before Sony purchased the company in 1993. Since then the company has become most well known for the Wipeout games, but also developed hits such as Colony Wars, G-Police, Formula 1, and Destruction Derby (as well as about 100 other titles pre and post-Sony).
Perhaps more interesting is the fact that since the studio has closed word has come to Eurogamer that the studio was working on two PS4 titles - one being a new Wipeout game and another being a motion captured stealth action title in the vein of Splinter Cell. Both these projects have been cancelled.
Sony has confirmed the closure only impacts the development studio and not other SCEE services and companies. The campus will still house FQA, GFPQA, XDev, CSG-Video, Localisation services and WWSE Finance, among other departments.
Sony has issued a statement which reads:
"As part of SCE Worldwide Studios, we do regular reviews to ensure that the resources we have can create and produce high quality, innovative and commercially viable projects in an increasingly competitive marketplace. As part of this process, we have reviewed and assessed all current and planned projects for the short and medium term and have decided to make some changes to our European Studios.
It has been decided that Liverpool Studio should be closed. Liverpool Studio has been an important part of SCE Worldwide Studios since the outset of PlayStation, and have contributed greatly to PlayStation over the years. Everyone connected with Liverpool Studio, past and present, can be very proud of their achievements.
However, it was felt that by focusing our investment plans on other Studios that are currently working on exciting new projects, we would be in a stronger position to offer the best possible content for our consumers.
Our Liverpool Facility will continue to operate, housing a number of other vital WWSE and SCEE Departments.
This should not take anything away from the great work WWS are doing and the incredible games and services that we have made, and continue to make, both for this coming year and further in the future."
While Sony are looking to place many staff in other studios they have, sadly, confirmed there will be some job losses. We wish all the staff the very best from all of us here at Futuregamez - you gave us many fond memories - and were as iconic as the Playstation brand itself.
Electronic Arts Australia has today announced the "First Play Game Tour" where the company will be showing off, and allowing the general public to play many of their biggest upcoming titles including FIFA 13, Need For Speed Most Wanted, Medal of Honor Warfighter, Dead Space 3, Crysis 3, plus more to be announced.
We were pretty impressed by 2K's Spec Ops: The Line and now we have even more reason to love the game with a patch released this week adding in four objective-based missions. Best of all the update is absolutely free.
PS3 Preview Medal of Honor: Warfighter is the latest game in EA's very successful shooter. Developed by Danger Close this game certainly looks impressive, and if the gameplay, and multiplayer modes, also reach the level we expect from a major franchise. We take a look at what to expect.

Two new PS3 games were announced from Sony's Japan Studio - the rather dull (but great looking) game called Rain where a boy goes searching for a girl he sees in the rain. It looks very moody indeed. The second game from Japan Studio is Pupeteer, a colourful 2.5D side scrolling platformer.
Another new game announced is the Playstation Move styled title from Supermassive Games called Until Dawn which has a horror theme.
Sony has announced that the free game for Playstation Plus members in September will be Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption. Nice...

The game is the first in the series to hit the PS3 (besides the recent HD compilation) and is in development at Sanzaru Games. Perhaps more interesting is that if you buy the PS3 version, you get the PSVita version for free in a new deal from Sony called "Crossbuy". Now that's impressive!

According to reports doing the rounds on the internet Nintendo are having some manufacturing problems with their new console the Wii U, in particular with the controller. Apparently the 2012 European release was at one point considered unlikley however sources are now pinning the European launch for December, with America still rumoured for the last week in November. No word on Australia, but limited stock or a delayed launch could bode well for good Christmas sales for the PS3.

Well we only previewed the game a couple of days ago and said we didn't know about multiplayer, but now we do, or at least in part. It has now been confirmed that XCOM: Enemy Unknown will include a 1-on-1 Deathmatch multiplayer mode. Electronic Arts have today announced that two new game modes will be included in a free update for SSX. The game mdoes include 3-2-1-Go! Events and Freeride and are available in the update which is now live on the Playstation Network. Details of the game modes from the press release are as follows:
3-2-1-Go! Events are a completely new way to experience multiplayer in SSX. Unlike the asynchronous competition found in Global Events, this new game mode will allow you to compete with up to five riders simultaneously in fast paced Trick it and Race it heats. The rules for 3-2-1-Go! Race Events are simple - the first rider to cross the finish line wins. 3-2-1-Go! Trick Events introduces a countdown timer for the entire run, so the winner is determined by who can post the highest score and cross the finish line before the clock hits zero.
One of the most requested modes from the SSX community, Freeride is a single player experience that allows you to endlessly explore every inch of the massive mountains of SSX at your own pace and with your own style. There are no rules, no ghosts, no clock, no score and no other riders. In Freeride, it is just you, the mountain and your music.
PS3 Review Ratchet & Clank Trilogy continues the 2012 flood of game re-releases, but this is up near the top of the pile. Take three of the best platform games from the PS2, give them a HD lick of paint, bring them to the PS3 and what do you have? One fantastic release worth checking out.

According to this artcile on the Czech Eurogamer site Mafia III is currently in development for next-generation hardware. Originally the game was intended as a launch title but this is unlikely since 2K Czech let 40 members of their team go last year. They are now ramping up the team again, but it will likely be too late for the game to make next-gen launches (rumoured for late 2013).
THQ have confirmed they have ceased development on Guillermo Del Toro's Insane (which was rumoured for next-generation consoles given the 2014 release date) and have handed the rights back to the filmmaker. No word yet if the game will be shopped to another developer, or production ceased.
With Gamescom taking place in Germany next week we expect a couple more game announcements and some super sleuths have uncovered two recent trademark filings from Sony. The first is for Rain and the second for Until Dawn. Incoming games? Quite likely but who knows when they'll be revealed or what they're about. Well, the developers perhaps.
PS3 Preview XCOM: Enemy Unknown is a game we are super keen to check out, especially as older gamers. While doubts and delays continue to plague the XCOM FPS title, this game is a recreation of the brilliant, turn-based strategy game from years ago. We take a look at one of our most wanted games of 2012.

PS3 Review London Olympics 2012 is, quite unsurprisingly, the video game tie-in for the current Olympic Games in London. This game, developed at Sega Studios Australia in Brisbane, is actually quite a competent sports game which includes over 40 sports.
