PS3 Preview Yakuza: Dead Souls is a new take on an existing franchise. There's no doubt that the Yakuza franchise has been a big success for Sega, in Japan especially. Now they are blending that franchise with shooter gameplay and zombies. A potential winner? Here's a preview...

PS3 Review Grand Slam Tennis 2 is an interesting title as it is the first tennis title that we can recall on a Sony system, ermm, ever. The original game in this series appeared on the Nintendo Wii, but this sequel ups the realism in all departments and is a decent PS Move game to boot. Here's a review if EA's latest.

Blu-Ray Review Staten Island & Brooklyn Rules is a double feature on Blu-Ray with the feature film, Staten Island, impressing and then the disc including an equally impressive Brooklyn Rules. A good value release with two decent films but lacking extras.

Kojima Productions has put up a mini-site (available here) in which they are looking for people to work on the "next" MGS. What makes ths site interesting is that they are looking for "Project engineers for the latest Metal Gear Solid targeted for high-end consoles and PC" and also "Engineers to help develop next-gen game engine technology for use with the FOX Engine." It seems Metal Gear Solid 5 may be heading to next-gen consoles!

Blu-Ray Review Transformers 3: Limited 3D Edition is the ultimate edition of this release with 5 discs including both 2D and 3D versions, an extras disc, a DVD copy and Digital Copy. We love this film, but no matter your thoughts the transfer in terms of audio and visuals is stunning, and the extras collection is also extremely impressive. A great release.

According to Amazon France Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is currently in development for release in 2012. It wouldn't be a surprise given the phenomenal sales of the first game. Adding oomph to the "rumour" an employee at Nerve Software, where Activision contracts work to, has listed the game on his CV.
Electronic Arts has announced that the demo for their snowboarding game SSX will be released on American PSN on February 21, and in Europe on February 22.

PS3 Review Gotham City Impostors is a download-only game from WB Games and developers Monolith and while the game certainly has a very fun premise and setting, Michael found this isn't quote the prefect game we hoped for. Still, it's decent and with promises of patches and is worth checking out.

So the Playstation Vita launches in Australia this week, Thursday in fact, but you may not notice a massive amount of hype at retail. Indeed many of Australia's biggest retailers including Target, K-Mart and BIG W will not be stocking the device - apparently Sony will be focusing on hardcore game retailers such as GAME, EB Games, Dick Smith at the initial launch. If you want the system you may have to shop around, but some stores are running out of pre-order stock so you may want to be quick.
CD Projekt has confirmed they currently have at least five titles in the works, two of which will be released in 2014 and 2015 on PC and "next-generation" consoles. It wouldn't be a stretch to imagine most companies would have titles for new consoles by 2014 - a rumoured date for the PS4 with Wii U confirmed for 2012 and XBox 720 rumoured for 2013.

Finally the Australian games industry is getting there with a Bill now before the Australian Parliament which would introduce an R18+ rating for games here in Australia. There's no timeline as yet for the bill to come into effect, but hopefully it would allow R18+ games by January 2013. You can check out more details here at the News.com.au website.
PS3 Preview The Last of Us is from the makers of the little franchise known as Uncharted on the PS3. Indeed this is an all-new, stunning looking franchise and IP which will be a PS3 exclusive. It's still a long way off (maybe Christmas, maybe 2013) but even now this is a stunning looking title. Take a look.

So the game has been Refused Classification and won't go on sale in Australia but Electronic Arts in America has announced a very impressive voice cast for their upcoming shooter Syndicate. Actors involved include Brian Cox (Rise of the Planet of the Apes, RED, Troy) as Jack Denham, Rosario Dawson (Sin City, Seven Pounds, Unstoppable) as Eurocorp exec Lily Drawl and Michael Wincott (The Crow, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves) as senior Eurocorp agent Jules Merit. If you downloaded the games for PSP, you will be able to download the same title onto your PSVita.

We don't have confirmation directly ourselves yet for Australia however it appears Capcom have pushed back the release date of Asura's Wrath in Europe from February 24 to March 9. No reason has been given for the delay.

Being an Australian games website we generally have close tabs with the industry here, and in what will be a major shock to many on the outside, but perhaps less so for those in the know, MVC Pacific are reporting here that essentially all editorial staff at PALGN will be quitting the site this Friday. Essentially battles between the owners and staff about the sites usability and focus have caused major issues. Expect more news soon, but you can check out some very interesting, damaging and enlightening exchange between owners and editors here.
Sony have release a new Playstation 3 Firmware which brings with it an improved browser experience. We haven't tested it as yet, but yar, enjoy. Perhaps much more important (for PlayTV owners especially) is the ability to set the PS3 to automatically sync with Internet Time Servers. Oh Firmware 4.10 also brings the change from PSN to SEN as we detailed the other day.
According to Famitsu Magazine Grasshopper Manufacture's gory zombie slasher Lollipop Chainsaw will be released in Japan this May. Here's hoping the American and European release isn't too far behind.
According to American retailer Future Shop Gamer Square-Enix will be releasing Sleeping Dogs in August. What makes this so interesting is that the game is supposedly the reboot of True Crime: Hong Kong which Activision dropped and sold off (well they sold off the game, not the rights to the True Crime IP) to Square-Enix a couple of years ago. United Front Games are handling development.
Sony has confirmed to Kotaku (in this article) that there will be no way to migrate games purchased on PSP UMD's onto the PSVita. In Japan Sony are offering discounts to upgrade to digital copies for Sony's new handheld. Sigh...
PS3 Preview Binary Domain is the latest third person shooter from Sega which has one very big attraction - voice control for your squadmates. Not only that but the way you interact and respond to them can alter their attitude towards you. If this works it really could be a fantastic release in a few weeks time.

PS3 Preview SSX is a game we have previewed already, way back in mid-2011, but we now know so much more and have some new screens that we thought it was time for new look at this snowboarding game from Electronic Arts which will hit shelves this March.
A couple of bits of news surrounding Twisted Metal today. First of all the European version of the game will contain very slightly modified cut-scenes (David Jaffe has stated it's a few frames here and there) to suit the ratings boards and as such the game has been pushed back a couple of weeks until March 7. Secondly David has also confirmed he will be leaving the development company he co-founded Eat Sleep Play to build a new team closer to home. He has promised to see through the development and post-release support for Twisted Metal. As he has stated At the same time I will be opening a game studio here in San Diego because I really miss internal game development. But if I may clear this up: I was not laid off. I co-own the company. There were a few lay-offs and they were very painful to do for all involved. I'm leaving because - again - games are just getting 2 big to direct from 300 miles away & I miss the day 2 day of working direct w/team."
