THQ have announced the Tecmo Koei's Ninja Gaiden III will launch in Europe and Australia on March 22, 2012. In addition a Collector's Edition has been announced which is described in the press release in the following manner:

"The premium NINJA GAIDEN 3 Collector’s Edition - exclusive to EB Games - offers a truly deluxe package and includes an exclusive NINJA GAIDEN 3 “Unmask” game art book, the official game soundtrack CD, a unique collector’s “Duel of the Masked” figure, as well as the chance to play four characters in the DEAD OR ALIVE 5 demo stage."

It has been a pretty big day today for THQ with the company having to fend off rumours of financial strife and news that they have cancelled their 2014 slate of games. THQ Australia have put out a response to the rumours which are in full below...

THQ has not cancelled its 2014 line-up, and has not made any decisions regarding the planned MMO. As part of the ongoing review of our business, we have made decisions to ensure that the company is strategically addressing the most attractive markets. As we have previously announced, we have dramatically reduced our commitment to the kids' boxed games sector which leads to a significantly more focused release schedule moving forward. Our slate for calendar 2012 and beyond is focused on high-quality core games and continues to build our digital platform and business. We are excited for our pipeline of original and high-quality content along with our relationships with some of the best talent in the industry.

Additionally, we are thrilled with the great performance of Saints Row: The Third, which on a like for like period in North America has tripled in sell-through from Saints Row 2. In addition, WWE ’12’s worldwide sell-through sales are up almost 40% year-over-year for the same sales period with fewer platforms. According to NPD, for the month of December and the 2011 year, THQ was the #5 publisher overall, #4 third party, with reported sell through growing over 18% in a market that was down almost 6%. And coming up next, we have two great titles for the first half of the year including UFC Undisputed 3 and Darksiders 2.

We were all pretty disappointed when 2K games announced that a new X-Com game would be released as a FPS, and then shattered when we heard it was PS3 and PC only. Well 2K games has made amends by announcing that X-Com: Enemy Unknown sees a return to the strategy styled game of the PC original, but it will also be hitting the PS3, and it's due this year. What's more the game is being developed by Firaxis - most well known for the Civilization strategy games. Huzzah!

Namco Bandai have confirmed that Soul Calibur V has gone gold and will be released on February 2 as planned.

Warner Brothers Interactive have announced Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes. The game is (as with all Lego titles) being developed by TT Games, and will be released in Winter 2012.

The Playstation Vita has probably provided the biggest news story over the Christmas break. In the first week on sale the system sold a respectable, but not sell-out, 325,000 units. The second week saw a collapse however with only 72,479 sales for the new system (which comparest to 482,200 for the Nintendo 3DS in the same week) - which means after two weeks Sony hasn't even moved it's initial 500,000 unit shipment. What's worse is that retailers are already reportedly slashing the price by up to 20% to shift stock!

    PS3 News
Harmonix has had a big win this week with an arbitrator ordering former Harmonix owner Viacom to hand over $383 million in unpaid royalties to the developer for their Rock Band franchise. Furthermore Harmonix does not have to hand back the previously paid $150 million in royalties which Viacom paid in 2007. Viacom has not accepted the arbitrator's decision and has filed a law suit stating the investigation was 'not properly executed'.

According to Empire Magazine, and in what should be a shock to no one, Activision will be releasing a game based on the upcoming James Bond film Skyfall. No word on developer, but it's likely Treyarch or Eurocom who worked on recent Bond titles for the company while you can expect a release in December 2012 to coincide with the movie.

Rumours doing the rounds at the moment are that Disney's Epic Mickey 2 will be release on the PS3 and include split-screen co-op gameplay with the second player controlling Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. The original game was a Nintendo Wii exclusive, but shifted decent numbers and is good news for PS3 owners. Of course this isn't official.. yet.

So it shows almost nothing but over the Christmas break Sega released the following teaser trailer for Sonic 4: Episode 2. Enjoy...
