Somehow we missed posting this one last week but THQ has confirmed that Homefront 2 is currently in development and, perhaps more excitingly, Crytek will be developing the title. The original Homefront was a decent title, but criminally short, so we have high expectations this superb developer delivers the goods in fiscal 2014! (BTW did anyone say next-gen consoles?? - THQ didn't but we can dream!)
Madden NFL 12 probably won't be the biggest game at retail in Australia, but the franchise has a loyal following. Indeed it seems the Madden franchise has been around for decades (actually, it has) so this latest iteration gets a good working over by Michael for review. Here's his thoughts.

From Software have confirmed they will be releasing a patch to fix some freezing issues in Dark Souls when being played online. The game was release in Japan last week and is due out in America and Europe in early October and we expect the issues to be resolved by release.
Fast Five is such a unique beast. Indeed it's amazing that five movies into a film franchise not only has the latest film taken the biggest box office dollars, but is probably the best in the series too! Impressive both in terms of the film, and technical presentation.

id Software's Tim Willits has confirmed the PS3 version of Rage will have an 8GB install. The reason is that by allowing this install the developers have been able to put the highest level textures in the game. Sounds like a good reason to us... The game is due out in a couple of weeks.
September 22, 2011
Sega has confirmed that two more Dreamcast classics will be released on PSN on October 4. These games include Space Channel 5 Part 2 and Sega Bass Fishing. Driver: San Francisco certainly has the brand name behind it to make it a hit. Indeed the Driver franchise has been a favourite of many for quite some time, but after a major rethink and redesign from developers Ubisoft Reflections this latest game sees the franchise at it's best. An impressive release...

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception is a small game to be published by Sony that a few of you may be anticipating. Perhaps a few million of you in fact. Sony have confirmed that the Playstation Vita will be region free meaning anyone will be able to import games from any territory. Well done Sony on this move yet again as it's one of the biggest positives to the PS3 - being able to import games not released in the territory.
Another question raised about the Playstation Vita is the battery life which at around 3-5 hours during gameplay isn't overly long but you can't pull out the battery to replace it. Fortuately all is not lost with the following from SCEA Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida stating "If you’re flying from New York to San Francisco or vice versa, you’ll have no concerns if you have the additional external battery." No word on the price for the external battery pack yet, but it's good news nonetheless.

In some rather sad news Codemasters have confirmed the closure of their Guildford studio which most recently created the rather crappy Bodycount. Unfortunately 66 staff will be affected by the closure and we wish them well finding work in future.
Dazed and Confused has become a cult classic since its 1993 release to cinemas and with a stellar cast (who weren't stars at the time) many fans will be keen to see this movie on Blu-Ray. Admittedly we weren't fans of the film, but the transfer offers a decent upgrade from DVD at a budget price.

Tokyo Game Show News
Well today saw Sony hold their conference at the Tokyo Game Show and while we aren't there in person it seems the big focus for Sony is on the PSVita launch which has now been confirmed for December 17 in Japan. There will be an impressive 26 launch games including Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3, Uncharted Golden Abyss, F1 2011, Katamari Damacy, Ridge Racer, Hot Shots Golf Next, Michael Jackson the Experience HD and plenty more.
One rather big downer/interesting part is that gamers will of course need a memory card for the system to store the games, and they aren't cheap with a 32GB card costing 9,500 yen (or about $120). Games will weigh in around 2-4GB for the most part. Some games will be able to save to the PSVita cards, however others will require the memory card so you'll need to add one of them to the purchase price for sure.
Talking about battery life Sony has confirmed that the system will run for 3-5 hours when playing games, a little more for video, and just under 10 hours when playing audio.

Resistance 3 is a game which many PS3 gamers will be keen to check out. After a couple of quiet months the Christmas rush hits off with a bang thanks to Resistance 3 from Insomniac Games and Sony. Fans of the series won't be disappointed.
September 11, 2011
Today is a date that will forever be remembered, September 11. Today marks the 10th Anniversary of those tragic events in America that has redefined what it is to live in this world. It was an amazing time, and I still recall sitting at this very desk where I am now, at almost 11pm Australian time, watching the events unfold live on TV just after I finished updating the site. Of course those lost will never be forgotten...

Electronic Arts has confirmed the original Crysis will be released on consoles this October as a download only title. The game broke new ground for visuals on CP when it released in 2007. The game will include improved Nanosuit controls and combat, but most importantly also support for 3DTV's.
Ubisoft's senior VP of sales and marketing Tony Key has stated that there are no plans to release Child of Eden as a downloadable title despite the game being made available as a download in a Kinect bundle. Well the Australian Classification Board gave the game a Refused Classification rating, but Sega Australia have confirmed they will appeal the decision to award House of the Dead Overkill Extended CutBlu-Ray Review
It's Kind of a Funny Story is is a movie starring Keir Gilchrist, Zach Galifianakis and Emma Roberts and we weren't honestly too keen on this film given the subject matter. Still, it's not a bad film at all and worth checking out on Blu-Ray, especially if you enjoyed the book.

September 5, 2011
Typically we don't report on other consoles but this has an industry-wide impact to an extend. Square-Enix have announced Dragon Quest X - for the Wii U. Yep, not a Sony release in sight. Since the announcement Sony's shares have dropped to their lowest point this year in Japan - and that includes the price drop during the network hack!
Soldier Blue is probably not the most well know film in the world. Indeed we had no prior knowledge of this movie or the gruesome massacre portrayed at the end, but this was quite an experience. Not the best film or transfer its still worth a look at a cheap price on Blu-Ray.

This weekend has seen Activision spill the beans on much of the Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer content. First of all developers Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer have reworked the killstreaks with Assault, Support and Specialist Strike Packages that include things like Strafe Runs (after 9 kills), Juggernaut (after 15 kills), Ballistic Vest (5 kills) and Stealth Bomber (14 kills). Multiplayer includes over 40 weapons with a new progression system for attachments, reticules and camos). All the favourite modes have returned including Free-For-All, Team Deathmatch, Domination as well as some new modes including Kill Confirmed where you need to collect dog tags from killed players, Team Defender which sees you defending someone with a flag, and Drop Zone. The game is due out in November.

Rayman Origins is a game we have been dying to get our hands on since being announced at E3 2010. Eighteen months later and the game is about to be released as a full retail product (it was originally announced as episodic downloadable games). It's certainly looking very unique, and entertaining.

Of course the Playstation Network Hack earlier this year was a massive blow for Sony and the Playstation brand, but it seems to have rebounded well with the news that since the service came online there are more then 3 million new customers using the online servers.

Developers of Mafia and Top Spin 4 2K Czech have apparently layed off around 40 staff members, from a team of around 200 people. That's a shame for those involved, but not surprising given the cycle of game developers ramping up and down for various projects.
