One of the shock announcements today is that Nintendo have slashed the price of their portable, the Nintendo 3DS. Launched only a couple of months ago sales have been sluggish at best and as a result (and we're sure the PSVita had a big input here) the price will be slashed from $AU349 to $AU249. That's still a rip-off in our books. In America the price has dropped from $US249 to $169 (about $155), in Japan from 25,000 yen to 15,000 yen and in Europe, while not disclosed formally also by about a third.

Shadows of the Damned is one of the most vulgar and grotesque games you'll ever play, that's if you can deal with what's here. It's fair to say that this game is not for everyone, but we quite enjoyed this release from Electronic Arts.

Epic have mentioned two interesting things of late. The first is that the People Can Fly developed game Bulletstorm has not made any money but president Mike Capps has said they don't regret greenlighting the project. The second is that Mike has admitted Epic has neglected the Unreal series in favour of the Gears of War titles. Perhaps an indication that a new Unreal may be in development. We can hope...

Puzzle Dimension is a game we had no idea about prior to receiving a download code (it's available on PSN rather cheap). What we discovered was one of the most entertaining puzzle games we've seen for some time.

Dinoshark, which is available now as a rental with no retail release set yet, Roger Corman's DinoShark is B-Grade horror with plenty of poor acting but also gore. If the name gets your interest that may be enough to check out this release.

Well the Uncharted 3 Beta has sadly ended, but the stats are quite astonishing. Over the 2 week Beta period, with one week being exclusive to Playstation Plus members, 1.53 million unique players tested the game, 1.9 million kills took place with 48 million shots fired. That's 22 million matches which would have taken 362 years to complete. Pretty good stuff and it just makes November seem so much further away.
inFamous 2 is a game we have been dying to get our hands on. The first title released a couple of years ago was an absolute cracker that came out of nowhere and the development team at Sucker Punch have been working on the sequel for some time. Have they improved greatness?

Movie Industry News
Following the news a couple of months ago that David O. Russell had left the Uncharted movie - and given his choices we think that's a good thing - Variey is no reporting that Limitless director Neil Burger is now attached to direct the film. Apparently the film will be reworked to remain more faithful to the PS3 games. No word yet on a start date, or indeed who will now star in the retooled movie.

Yesterday a packshot of Resistance 3 showed up in America with a strange logo on it "PSN Pass". Rumours have speculated, and Sony have now confirmed, that this will grant "Full Online Access" to participating games with this shooter being the first. Sony have also confirmed to Eurogamer that "This program will be game-specific. Games that are a part of this program will include a single-use registration code that grants the account holder redeeming the code full online access for that title." This is certainly a scheme similar to the Online Passes from other companies - once the pass has been redeemed the game can't be sold off and re-used online unless a fee is paid. It's not something we totally disagree with as developers can then get a small slice of the secondhand market.

Faster hit the shelves this week and sees Dwayne Johnson return to the action genre after a few years of kiddie/more pedestrian pics. This movie isn't quite what we expected, but it is quite good. Here's the review...

Now, its seems, the conditions, and work quality for the studio isn't good enough from Rockstar with reports that the publishers won't be publishing their next game - whatever it is. For a fascinating read about the working conditions at the developer check out this article on Gameindustry.biz (after a free sign-up).
The Lord of the Rings: War in the North is a very impressive looking game which, while seperate from the story seen in the motion pictures, interweaves a seperate storyline where characters cross paths. With Snowblind Studios developing the game there is a lot of potential here for a hit. We check it out.

Take this with a very large grain of salt but an article on DigiTimes (available here) the Playstation 4 will go into production in late 2011 for a potential release in 2012. The system will apparently have full body detection similar to the Kinect and will be manufactured by the Foxconn and Pegatron Technology who make the PS3, will have a planned shipment of 20 million units. Time will tell if that's true, Sony certainly won't comment and in the past have only stated the PS3 has a "10 year lifespan".
