Locking Game Saves is the topic in this all-new semi-regular column/rant. This week saw the Nintendo 3DS receive a new Resident Evil title from Capcom and while this would be cause for celebration there was a major cause for concern, and one which could eventually spread through the industry.
Codemasters has confirmed that their upcoming shooter, Bodycount will be released in North America on August 30, in Australia and New Zealand on September 1, and in Europe on September 2.
Mindscape have confirmed that, like America, Australia will also see the Silent Hill HD Collection released in Q'4 2011. Sticking with Konami titles the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection will be released in November 2011.

Fire up your PS3 today folks and all Playstation Plus members can download the Uncharted 3 multiplayer beta. We're getting it right now, so we hope to see you online. Oh, and if you're not a PS+ member yet remember you get that free for 30 days following the outage.
Warner Brothers has confirmed that despite the movie being delayed in Australia from June to August 11 for unknown/marketing reasons the video game, Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters, has been released to stores today.
Almost as leaky as the Australian Classification board the Korean Ratings board has today rated the PS3 version of Limbo. This is one of the most acclaimed games on the XBox Live Arcade so it's arrival on PS3 would be more then welcome.
Call of Juarez: The Cartel is the third game in this franchise from developers Techland and publishers Ubisoft. The Call of Juarez titles do some pretty big business and this latest game takes it from the Wild West to modern era.
With Sony's chairman Akira Sato stepping down on August 31 Sony have announced that Kaz Hirai has been appointed to the role while Andrew House will move up to fill the CEO and President role being vacated by Kaz. Tecmo Koei have confirmed that Dynasty Warriors 7 Xtreme Legends is currently in development and will be released in Japan this September. Going by track record we don't think it will be too long before it's released in other territories too.
Red Faction: Armageddon was a game we were extrmely keen to play. The last Red Faction title was a cracker of a release an a couple of years down the line we were hoping for something very special from this title. Did Volition deliver the goods?

Tron: Legacy is the sequel to the hit 1982 movie was released in late 2010 and after reviewing the Blu-Ray can say that it is one of the most visually, and sonically, impressive movies ever.

IGN have posted an interesting artcle regarding working conditions at Team Bondi who recently developed the rather impressive L.A. Noire for Rockstar. Apparently boss Brendan McNamara isn't the easiest to work with and the company required outside assitance to smooth things over - which worked for a while. This article explores long days, bullying and more at the studio which also recently saw around 100 of the development team left off the final credits in the game. Check out the article here.
DiRT 3 is the latest game in Codemasters rally franchise, which used to have Colin McRae branding until his passing a couple of years ago, is back yet again and, yet again, this is a fantastic title which all racing fans should check out.

According to reports online Bioware's old Neverwinter Nights forums have been hacked as well as EA's Game forums. While there were no credit card details stored logon details could be compromised so get changing those passwords again!
Battlefield 3 is going to be a monster release at the end of this year and Electronic Arts are hoping this can topped another monster franchise from Activision. Indeed the Battlefield franchise keeps growing and this latest game due in October looks astounding. We take a look and tell you what to expect from this shooter.

PS Vita News
According to reports doing the rounds the Playstation Vita will not launch in Europe until early 2012. It had been rumoured for some time - especially after Tretton confirmed a "fiscal 2011" launch window - which for Sony runs until the end of March 2012 but it now seems to be gaining momentum.
Captain America is a game almost certain to sell well. Indeed with the movie, and of course this required video game tie-in, only weeks away we thought we'd take a quick peek at what to expect from this Sega coming to PS3. Indeed it seems to be shaping up fairly decently.

Well today is Sonic's 20th Birthday so we thought we'd put up a preview of the upcoming game. Sega have put up a demo that weighs in at 665MB which is playable until July 12 and while it only offers one short level it really shows how great this game could be. Check it out (the preview and/or the demo).
Fire up your PS3 today and you may notice the new 3.66 Firmware has been released. This is a minor update that promises "system stability during use of PS3 format software and network services has been improved".
Sony have conriemd that a new 320GB PS3 (model CECH-3000B) will be released in Japan later this month. The new unit drops the weight from 3.0kg to 2.6kg and the power consumption from 230 Watts to 200 Watts. It is speculated the new unit includes improved security measures against hacking, but Sony are, of course staying silent on this. You can expect this revised unit to roll out worldwide pretty swiftly.
Sonic Generations is a game which fans should be keen to check out. Today is Sonic's 20th Birthday so we thought we'd wheel out a preview of Sonic Generations which includes classic 2D gameplay and levels as well as a modern 3D gameplay option through the same levels. It looks great and we suggest fans check this out, and the demo that is now on the Playstation Store.

PS Vita News
SCE Worldwide Studio's Shuhei Yoshida has stated that the rear touch pad on the PS Vita was initally rejected due to cost and uncertainty of usefulness however after prototyping the touch pad the team decided it "offered something remarkable". We have to say it's certainly one aspect of the PS Vita we are very excited about. There's nothing worse then playing a game on iPad or iPhone and covering the screen with some chubby fingers!
House of the Dead: Overkill Extended Cut may have a pretty long name, but if you own a Playstation Move this light gun game looks like keeping an eye on. One of Sega's biggest franchises is House of the Dead, and this latest game is being ported from the Nintendo Wii with extra missions, weapons and HD/3D visuals.

Sega have confirmed that Binary Domain, a sci-fi shooter from the team behind Yakuza will be released worldwide on February 2012.
UK retailer ShopTo has listed a November 4 release date for the Playstation Vita with a pricepoint of £279.99 for the 3G model and £229.99 for the non-3G model. You can see the listings here for 3G and here for non-3G (although I assume it will be taken down pretty soon). Sony have stated though that the dates listed are "speculation".
No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise has been ported from the Nintendo Wii, albeit with much improved visuals and gameplay, and this action title from Grasshopper Manufacture, makers of Killer 7, is certainly a unique experience. With optional Playstation Move support Michael tells us if this is worth your time.

Sega has confirmed that just under 1.3 million user account details have been stolen after their Sega Pass sytem was hacked. The details include usernames, dates of birth and passwords, although the passwords were apparently encrypted.
How Do You Know should be a hit movie with the director being James L. Brooks (the same person that created The Simpsons) and stars including Reese Witherspoon, Owen Wilson, Jack Nicholson and Paul Rudd. The strange thing is, this movie never really clicks on all cylinders. Still, here's our review of this latest release from Universal.

A judge in America has announced that the "Call of Duty" lawsuit which sees ex-Infinity Ward bosses Jason West and Vince Zampella sueing Activision for failure to pay royalties can go to trial with this trial likely to take place in late 2011 or early 2012. Earlier this year Activision won the right to sue their ex-employees and Electronic Arts for breach of contract when West and Zampella jumped ship, created Respawn and announced they would publish through Elecronic Arts. This is going to get real interesting...
Ohh, our first, official, piece of PS Vita News... sort of. According to reports Sega's new studio in the UK is hard at work on an all new IP for release on the Playstation Vita. The game is reportedly an action adventure game due for release on the handheld in late 2012 - and will make use of "all" the PSVita's features.
Machete has been out for a couple of months now and while we've taken a while to put this review up, it's here now. If you love action movies then this is worth checking out. An A-List cast makes this a very entertaining couple of hours.

Shadows of the Damned looks like an interesting game with a wide variety of gameplay however the most interesting aspect is that the game has been developed by Grasshopper Manufacture who developed Killer 7 and No More Heroes among other titles. This preview is worth a look...
Good news for Australian gamer developers with the news this week from the Australian Game Developers Association confirming that with current Tax reforms developers may now be eligable for tax breaks when developing games in Australia - many other countries including Canada offer tax incentives which has seen Australia lagging. The Federal government has wrapped this up in the $AU1.8 billion R&D Tax Legislation/Bill. You can read more on the topic here.

Sony have to do a lot to keep the masses happy since the Playstation Network outage, but with the E3 Show just after the systems came back online there was an added bonus for Sony. While 46,800 people attended the event in Los Angeles a massive half a million people have visited the Sony E3 virtual space in Playstation Home and viewed the trailers. It's worth a look too - but be quick as the virtual space will only be online for a limited time.
While the Playstation Network and Store are back online the Outage news hasn't stopped. Last week Spanish police announced they had arrested 3 individuals in recent weeks in relation to the outage, and several other hacks in Spain while other offenders have been picked up in Turkey. Today Anonymous in speaking to VG247 (which you can read here) said they have stopped the Sony attacks, but they supported the message by hackers.
Ray was a monster success when released in 2004 both critically and commerically. We all know that Ray Charles is a legendary musician and this movie details his life perfectly. Jamie Foxx is superb in the role and this Blu-Ray offers a wonderful transfer. No better time to check it out if you haven't already.

Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes may not have been on everyones radar, primarily as it's a PSN title only. With the store now back online we thought we'd take a look at the game and very much enjoyed what we saw.

Dan Amrich has confirmed that the upcoming Call of Duty: Elite which is a community expansion which includes social networking, videos and stat tracking already has 2 million people signed up for the Beta which starts on July 14. But that's not enough with the company looking for more people to sign up to test the service. You can do so here.
Namco's Katsuhiro Harada has mentioned that Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will likely not be released on consoles until 2012.
According to reporst THQ are set to announce a "big" titles at the upcoming Gamescom in Germany which is held from August 17-21. No mention of platforms or franchises as yet.
The Dilemma is a movie with a great idea. Starring Vince Vaughn and Kevin James this movie asks about a dilemma; would you tell your best mate his wife was cheating on him if your business was at stake? The movie is out on Blu-Ray now and we've checked out.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters may have a ridiculously long name to encorporate everything great about the sport, but this years effort, with Playstation Move support, is quite a superb game. 2011 E3 Show News
Well the E3 Show officially starts in a couple of days but some companies are holding pre-Show conferences, with Konami actually kicking off tomorrow (Friday). With that in mind we'll be setting up our E3 page yet again and bring you all the news as soon as we can. On Tuesday at 10am (Australian EST) we'll be live blogging details announced at Sony's Presentation - where PSP2 (or PS Vita as it's rumoured to be called) will feature heavily.
PSN Outage News
Well this is the end of the bumpy road folks. Sony have today turned the Playstation Store back on and there's a tonne of new content on there. There have been some outages due to the massive demand, and the "Welcome Back" packs won't be online for a few days as Sony continue to test them, but you can now download demos and purchase items online. Over the coming week there will be multiple updates, and of course we expect a lot of E3 content starting next Tuesday.
L.A. Noire has been a hugely anticipated title withing gaming circles and massive sales have seen stock shortages around Australia. From the company that brought us Grand Theft Auto comes this all-new crime thriller. It was developed here in Sydney at Team Bondi, and is another brilliant Rockstar title.

PSN Outage News
Sony have confirmed there will be some Playstation Network outages tomorrow. They haven't detailed what it's for but we're pretty certain it's for the resumption of the Playstation Store and the remaining non-working services on the Playstation Network.
Portal 2 is superb. We'll happily say that up front. Indeed the first Portal, which was bundled into The Orange Box on PS3 exploded onto the scene with some expectation, but reviews, and positive gamer response took everyone by surprise. Here's a review of the sequel which Michael loved.
