SEPTEMBER 2010 NEWS

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood Multiplayer Beta Competition. For the first time Ubisoft's title will include online components and this is your chance to check it out well before the actual game release. Here we give you a chance to win one of 10 entries into the Beta which launches on October 4th.
We popped in one of our favourite games last night, Heavy Rain and low and behold had the patch to download for Move support. Given that was our objective we wanted to give it a try, but were pretty surprised to see the patch weigh in at 1.114GB! Still, the move controller works very well and we suggest you certainly check it out - or the full retail release on 8/10.
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood is a monster title this Christmas, no doubt about it. In fact, Assassin's Creed has become a monster franchise with over 10 million sales since the first game and this latest title not only offers a massive single player campaign, but also multiplayer. We take a look at what to expect.

In what has to be a major coup for Codemasters their F1 2010 game has knocked Halo Reach off the top spot in the UK charts. This is the first time in 9 years a Formula One title has topped the charts, and we have to say that given the quality of the game (expect a review this week) it's not a surprise.
September 25, 2010
Criterion has confirmed that Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit will not include any form of story in the single player mode. This is simply a game where the goal is to reach the top ranking through a series of different events such as Time Trials, Races, Interceptors and Hot Pursuits. While speaking of the game a demo will be released on October 26th.
According to reports Firmware 3.50 includes a nasty little surprise too with some older third party and non-licensed controllers not working. At this stage we know there are three models of Mad Katz controllers that no longer work - all of which were produced prior to 2008.

There have been rumours over the last couple of days and now Media Molecule has confirmed that LittleBigPlanet 2 will not be released in November 2010, but has been delayed. It's not too bad though as the delay is only until January 2011.
It was rumoured the other day but is now confirmed that the PS3 can't handle 3D Blu-Ray movies and lossless audio at the same time. When you're playing a 3D Blu-Ray the audio will drop to regular DTS and Dolby Digital surround - disappointing, but not catastrophic. It's also rumoured that the system will have trouble with subtitles and some Java features.
LittleBigPlanet 2 is one of the most anticipated games on the PS3 due this year, oh, wait, early next year. This really looks like a brilliant and worthy sequel which now allows any genre of game, not just platforming, more control of the camera, the ability to create cut-scenes and link levels. It looks fantastic.
September 22, 2010
The Children probably isn't a movie many Australian's would have heard of as it never came to cinemas here. Still, if you like horror movies then you may be keen to check out this release as Luke enjoyed this Blu-Ray release quite a bit.
September 21, 2010
As expect PS3 Firmware 3.50 is now available for download to your PS3. As well as the 3D Blu-Ray support this firmware includes a swag of other features including Facebook Profile integration and connection, Grief Reporting to report anyone annoying you online, improved error descriptions, updated Playstation Plus interface and being able to use the Playstation Move as a web browser cursor.
Quantum Theory is the latest game from Tecmo Koei, and looks pretty nice. This third person shooter should provide a few thrills when released in the next couple of weeks and we've given you a preview of what to expect.
Pandorum stars Dennis Quaid in this suspense filled horror movie which has impressed some, but has left our reviewer, Luke, somewhat disappointed with a sense of been-there, done-that. Here's a review of the Blu-Ray release from Icon Films.
September 20, 2010
As we know the Playstation 3 Firmware tomorrow will include support for 3D Blu-Ray's but one piece of news we've picked up of late, but we haven't confirmed as yet, is that the discs will not be able to output lossless audio. Also apparently the PS3 will struggle with BD-Live content on the 3D discs due to the limitations of the Cell processor - although we've also heard that the issue is the limited bandwidth from the system. Fortunately though the discs will run at 1080p - not 720p as originally rumoured some time ago. Expect more details/confirmation following the Firmware's release in the next 24 hours.
Kick-Ass is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the most entertaining, brutal, vulgar movies we have seen in some time - and we love it. This Blu-Ray from Universal is a must-have release with a great transfer and some brilliant extras as well. Including six different sports this is a great technical showcase for the controller, but is it worth a purchase?
Sports Champions is the first Playstation Move game we have reviewed here at Futuregamez, but it's probably the pick of the Playstation Move launch titles from Sony.
September 19, 2010
Fighting Fans be happy as Namco's Katsuhiro Harada has confirmed that Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is currently in development and scheduled for release in (Japanese) Summer 2011 - in the arcades. No word yet on playable characters or changes/enhancements to the game but we expect news soon and we would also expect given the history of the franchise that a home console port won't be too far behind.
September 18, 2010
Sooo we don't know how we missed reporting this a couple of days ago but the Playstation Move has hit Australian shelves (actually, we do know, we've been too busy playing all the games!). So what do we think? Well the hardware is simply superb. It's so accurate that is puts the competitors (yes we're looking at your Nintendo Wii) to shame. In terms of the games though we're still playing through them, but early impressions are positive with questions regarding the games longevity - it's just a real shame that SOCOM 4 was pushed to early 2011 as that would have been a good "hardcore game" to test. We hope to have some reviews up soon.
Ninja is a movie based around - you guessed it - ninjas. Now we all know just how cool these silent assassin's are, but does this latest Blu-Ray release capture the essence? We're not sure of that, but if you're a fan of 1980's action moves you may want to check this out if you have a couple of hours to kill.

A bit more news from TGS that we missed yesterday. Sony have announced several more games to include 3D support. First up are new, and highly anticipated, games including Final Fantasy XIV and Metal Gear Solid: Rising as well as (we suspect Japanese-only) Disaster 4: Summer Memories while old games to get patched include Everybody's Golf World Tour (great game so huzzah for this update!) and PS3 lauch title Ridge Racer 7.
Those of you who play MAG will be pleased to know that Patch 2.0 will be released within a month. It adds a swag of new features, not least of which is support for the Playstation Move controller which could be a blast. Other changes include an increased level cap to level 70, a revamped skill tree, new in-game econemy, a "Clan Deploy" feature, a news page and plenty of other tweaks and bug fixes.
Sony has confirmed that an "Imports" section will be added to the Playstation Store which will see previously Japanese-only PSOne games released on the store. That's the good news, the bad news is that this "Import" section is apparently only for the American PSN at this stage. First games include Cho Aniki and GaiaSeed and apparently the games won't be localised and will retain Japanese text, however these two games are horizontal shooters, so text isn't really that important. Still, here's hoping a few companies release translated games.
Heavy Rain: Move Edition isn't an entirely new game, in fact in essence it's the same as the original game released in February. If you own that game you can get the patch to add Move support however if you buy the retail disc you'll get Move support, the DLC and a few other bonuses. We've done up a new preview to give you the full rundown. Will a classic game get even better? Seems so...

Well the Tokyo Game Show is on right now and there are several bits of news for gamers. Here's a list of the major announcements:
- The Last Guardian was shown off at the Tokyo Game Show and a release window of "Holiday 2011" was given. That means we may very well see this as Sony's big Christmas 2011 release (alongside Resistance 3).
- Shadow of the Colossus and ICO are being remastered for release in HD on the PS3. The combo pack is due for release in (Japanese) Spring 2011 (which is around Autumn for Australians).
- Gran Turismo 5 will be released in Japan on November 3rd. This means every major territory, including Australia, will see the game released on the 3rd or 4th of November this year.
- The leaked Valkyria Chronicles III news is indeed true, the game is coming and it will hit the PSP someitme next year.
- From Software's development team behind Demon's Souls has confirmed a new game called Project Dark is currently in development for PS3.
- Capcom has announced that a new Devil May Cry title is in development at Ninja Theory (Heavenly Sword, Enslaved).
- Castlevania: Lords of Shadow has been dated for December 16 in Japan - we're not sure if the October release for Australia will be pushed back now, but it seems likely.
- Koei Tecmo have confirmed that Dynasty Warriors 7 will be a PS3 exclusive with more details to be announced next month.
Get ready folks, PS3 Firmware 3.50 will be released next week on September 21st, and it should be a fairly major release - for a few people. The update will include the long awaited 3D Blu-Ray playback functionality. This is good news for those with 3DTV's as you will finally be able to watch 3D movies. The PS3 was patched for 3D games some time ago now.
Mafia II has had a lot of hype surrounding the game, and rightfully so with a massive budget and good production values this looks like a winner and solid sequel to the hit original. But is it? Mike Allison has played through the game and gives you his impressions.

Just a quick correction. Yesterday we previewed the very gorgeous looking Medal of Honor but listed the price as $119.95, the game in fact has a price of $AU109.95. Get those pre-orders in folks.
Movie Industry News
A couple of years ago Sony Pictures and Capcom released the somewhat below par Resident Evil: Degeneration on Blu-Ray. It wasn't a terrible movie, but not quite up to the Milla Jovovich feature films. Still with 1.6 million copies sold it was successful enough. Now Capcom has announced Resident Evil: Damnation another CG film starring Leon S. Kennedy. The movie, which we expect will also be direct to disc but may hit cinemas, will be released in Japan in 2012, and will be in 3D.
Dead Rising 2 is a game which we know plenty of you are eager to check out. The original game remains one of the best titles on the XBox 360 and now this sequel is hitting the PS3 as well. Here's a preview of what we can expect later this month.
September 13, 2010
According to reports Capcom are set to announced four new titles at the Tokyo Game Show this week. There's no details on platforms or franchises, but we're going to put a little money on Resident Evil 6 being announced, and how about a new Move/Kinect game too... Expect news soon.
Activision has confirmed that there will not be any co-op modes for the main campaign mode in Call of Duty Black Ops. Never fear, there's plenty more to do in the game - and you can expect us to preview it in the coming week or so too.
A leaked schedule from Sega has outed Valkyria Chronicles 3 which will be unveiled at the Tokyo Game Show this week. As yet though details of the game, or platform, remain under wraps. It's coming though...
Medal of Honor has been around for over a decade but this latest title is the first to move away from WWII and into the modern warfare era. Hmm, that kind of has a ring to it doesn't it. Anyway this game is looking pretty special indeed. Here's a peek at what to expect from EA's shooter this October...

Those of you looking to bop, sing and dance away to Michael Jackson: The Experience this year, well, won't. The game has been delayed until 2011. The reason is to allow more time to develop the game with the Playstation Move (and Kinect as the 260 version is delayed too). The PSP version will still ship this November - but we can't see how it will provide even a fraction of the fun compared to the Move version.
Lord of the Rings: Aragorn's Quest is the first game from new license holder WB Games and while it may be a little more on the childish side then we expect from the franchise, the game is one of the first to make use of the Playstation Move. With a release set for October 27 we tell you what to expect.
September 8, 2010
Konami has confirmed that Silent Hill 8 (obviously not the final name) will be released in 2011 on the Playstation 3. Personally we'd rather see a new movie from the franchise as the first one was fairly decent and worth a look if you haven't already.
The Playstation Move is set for release in a little over a week and now Sony America has posted a Q&A with plenty of details about the system. It's well worth a read which you can do right here.
The Neverending Story was one of my favourite childhood movie and having not see this movie for over a decade I was keen to check out the Blu-Ray just released through Village Roadshow. Does this still hold that magic and is the transfer up to the task? Read out full review to find out.
September 7, 2010
Sony has released a new Firmware, 3.42, for the Playstation 3 today which adds nothing for the end consumer except "additional security features". No idea what it includes exactly however we've received reports that the PS3 Jailbreak no longer works.
Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford has commented that Duke Nukem Forever will likely get a demo at some stage. He stated that "I think that is an important thing to do... Now that the cat's out of the bag we can actually make those plans". No word on a release date for either the game, or a demo as yet except for a general 2011.
We personally can't wait to check out the game and now Namco Bandai have confirmed that Enslaved: Odyssey to the West has gone gold. The game is due out in the first week of October.
EyePet: Move Edition isn't an entirely new game but rather an upgraded version of the 2009 hit title which now includes support for the Playstation Move controller and 3DTV's (among other improvements we expect). We have the latest details on this very family friendly title.
September 6, 2010
Despite Gearbox announcing they are developing Duke Nukem Forever for release in 2011 another of their stalled games Aliens: Colonial Marines is still in development despite rumours to the contrary.
The Crazies may not have the most twist-filled storyline but it is a fairly decent horror movie that will shock and surprise on occasion. This Blu-Ray disc has a great transfer and we suggest you check this out if the subject matter interests you at all.
Well we have our five winners of The Descent: Part 2 on Blu-Ray and they are as follows (drumroll)... Ben Andrews, Dean Lillie, Andrew Koh, Nick Orr, and Mark Benton. Congratulations all, you discs will be with you soon.
September 5, 2010
There were rumours recently, and we can now confirm that Duke Nukem Forever is indeed alive and set for release on PS3 (as well as PC and 360) in 2011. Perhaps the most exciting aspect though is that the game is being developed by none other then Gearbox.
Sony Computer Entertainment America has confirmed that Killzone 3 will be released in that territory on February 22nd. The game will be a massive title for Sony and should be another major boost for 3D gaming.
Team ICO's Fumito Ueda has hinted that The Last Guardian will be shown at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show later this month. The title was missing from this years E3 Show, but remains one of the most anticipated in the franchise.
Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days is one of the most violent video games of all time, but that's not the problem with this game. How about a 5 hours single player experience? So is it worth a purchase?
September 3, 2010
Take Two has confirmed they have shipped a very impressive 6.9 million units of Red Dead Redemption. We have to say, if you don't have the game, what are you waiting for?
In the same financial report from Take Two it has now been officially confirmed that L.A. Noire won't be released until 2011. Given that nothing has been seen of the game really that was a no brainer really.
September 1, 2010
Sony Computer Entertainment Australia has confirmed that Gran Turismo 5 will be released here on November 4th, a day after most other territories around the world get their hands on the long awaited title.
Sports Champions is certainly one of key titles at the launch of the Playstation Move in a couple of weeks. This sports title looks good, and will hopefully play well. We take a look at what to expect.
Playstation Move is likley to be the biggest change to the Playstation 3 since it launched, certainly in terms of new gameplay styles. As a much more accurate version of the Nintendo Wii controller, we take a look at the controller, the game and the options at retail for the launch.
