    Industry News
Well Activision may have lost/destroyed/killed Infinity Ward, but the company has a MAJOR signing today with confirmation that the next franchise from Bungie (maker of Halo) will be distributed by Activision. The deal will last for 10 years with the new franchise set to hit "multiple platforms and devices".

    PS3 News
Codemasters has confirmed that International Cricket 2010 will be released on June 18 in the UK. While there hasn't been confirmation of an Australian date yet (we expect Australian distributors Namco Bandai to announce that tomorrow perhaps) we would suspect the release date is pretty much identical to that in England. The game is currently in development at Trickstar Games.

Looking forward to THQ's next Red Faction game? Well who isn't after the brilliant Red Faction Guerilla. Well the next game is due by April 2011, and now the domains and have been registered. Possible names? Perhaps...

We missed this the other day but Sony has confirmed that the RSX processor in the PS3 is now being produced with a 40mn fabrication rather then the 65nm process used in the past. The new processor is smaller, consumes less power, reduces heat and is cheaper to produce. The new model can be found in PS3 models CECH-2100A.

    PS3 News
While Infinity Ward is imploding we can expect a new Call of Duty title for Treyarch this year and this weekend will debut the new trailer apparently. It is rumoured that the new game will be set in Vietnam.

    Blu-Ray Review
The Invention of Lying wasn't the biggest box office success. Ricky Gervais has a loyal following and this movie was written by, directed by and stars him so fans will certainly want to check this out. This is a Ricky Gervais movie, but is this world, where you can tell a lie, any good?

    PS3 News
David Jaffe has confirmed that his new PS3 game will not be at the upcoming E3 show, and nor will he. When asked if his next game is a new Twisted Metal title to appear at E3 he stated "Well I assure you 100% that is not accurate. If my game would be at E3, I would be there. ALSO we are NOT making that game." followed by "I will say this about the list: makes me excited for E3! Even tho Iím watching it from my home, I canít wait already!!!!"

    PS3 Preview
UFC Undisputed 2010 should need no introduction. This is set to be one of the biggest releases of this year is this latest game in THQ's brawling series. With the UFC getting bigger and bigger each year this latest title looks hot.

    PS3 Review
God Of War 3 was one of the most anticipated games of this generation and, thankfully for Sony, this is everything we hoped for, and then some. Chris Gobbett has played, and loved this from start to finish and it's a must have title - as long as you like extreme gore!

    PS3 News
Ubisoft has confirmed that they have pushed back the release of R.U.S.E. to September 2010 in order to implement changes suggested from the recent Beta.

    ANZAC Day
With the long weekend at the moment we just wanted to acknowledge all those Australian and New Zealanders who lost their lives during battles and also to those currently serving overseas. This is a time for reflection and thanking those that served this country, and those that made the ultimate sacrifice.

In writing this I also have to comment on the movie Balibo which I watched last night which tells the story of the five reporters killed in Balibo, East Timor, when Indonesia invaded as well as the Australian reporter who later went looking for them. It's a great movie, but on this ANZAC day, it makes you also thing about those that lost their lives in conflicts - but who weren't a part of any military force. A great movie, and one which we'll have reviewed soon too hopefully.

    PS3 News
I lost count a while ago but website Kotaku is keeping count with 18 staff members now confirmed as departing Infinity Ward. This wouldn't be too bad if the staff members were juniors or janitors (when it comes to games development), but these are senior artists, level designers and programmers. Pretty soon, if not already, Infinity Ward may be called something else. You can check out the latest damage at this artitle. The big question: how many will jump ship when the royalties are paid out (whenever Activision see fit to do that - or will they hold them knowing the mass bailout once paid?)?

    PS3 News
Fire up your PS3 today and you'll be prompted to install the latest Firmware 3.30. This update adds a few functions, most notable being around trophies. Here's the announcement from the Playstation Blog:

Hi everyone, in our continued effort to provide the best, most comprehensive entertainment experience possible, weíll be adding a few new features to PlayStation 3 (PS3) via the latest system software update, which is a mandatory update and will be available shortly. Most notably, youíll see some new sorting options within Trophies that make it easier to claim bragging rights among your friends on PlayStation Network.
Trophy enhancements Ė- Now you can more easily sort trophies in the [Trophy Collection] and [Comparing Trophy] sections. Sorting can be done with [Trophy Collection] in the [Game Category] and also when comparing trophies with your friends in the [Friend Category]
          - Trophy Folder (Title List) can be sorted by game name/ by title according to the date in which you earned your last trophy (ascending/descending)
          - Add-on list (Group list) can be sorted by original/the date in which you earned your last trophy (ascending/descending)
          - Trophy list can be sorted by original/trophy name/grade/date of obtaining the trophy (ascending/descending)

In addition, this update preps the PS3 system for some upcoming new features, including 3D stereoscopic gaming, which is coming soon to PS3, in time for the launch of Sonyís 3D BRAVIA TVs.

Well screw this... As many of you may have noticed Final Fight was released on the Playstation Network last week and it has now come to light that the game requires you to be signed into your PSN account in order for the game to start. Apparently Capcom are using this as a DRM resolution to ensure the account that purchase the game is the only one to play it. Be warned... or be annoyed - what if we have another Leap Year glitch in future. (Soup Nazi Voice) "No Game For You"...

    Blu-Ray Review
Afro Samurai is one of the most critically acclaimed anime series of late and with voiceovers from Samuel L. Jackson it also sounds the part. Out now on Blu-Ray we've taken a look to give you our impressions of this Blu-Ray from Madman.

    PS3 News
In a move across all platforms Ubisoft has confirmed that their games won't ship with manuals any more, but rather the manual will be built into the game itself starting later this year. Apparently it's to save the trees or something, but more likely to save hefty printing costs. Furthermore Ubisoft will uses 100 percent recycled DVD casaes for their games starting with Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction due in a few weeks (but not on PS3 still - Ubisoft are apparently going to take a wait-see approach to a PS3 port).

Thought we might spend a few moments to give you some lifetime game sales on the PS3. Modern Warfare 2 has now amassed 7.622 million units of sales after 22 weeks on sale. The epic God Of War III (review within days) has sold 1.941 million units after 4 weeks, while Heavy Rain has sold 1.120 million units after 8 weeks. On a more disappointing side of the ledger the very entertaining Just Cause 2 has only shifted 296,000 units on PS3 since launching 3 weeks ago.

    PS3 Preview
SOCOM 4: US Navy Seals has to be one of the most anticipated games this year, and with support for Playstation Move could be groundbreaking too. We don't know a lot yet, but here's a peek.

    PS3 Review
Yakuza 3 took a painfully long time to come out here, but after gamers kept asking, Sega finally relented and ported this game for release in America and Europe. Here's our review of this Japanese game which is actually quite superb!

    PS3 News
As if Activision didn't have enough trouble with the Infinity Ward departures and now the company has lost a part of a lawsuit brought by the rock band No Doubt over their use in the game Band Hero for using their likenesses with other bands songs. It's only round one of a massive battle (unless they settle) however the Los Angeles County Superior Court issued a tentative ruling rejecting Activision's effort to invoke freedom-of-speech protections. No Doubt: 1. Activision: 0.

    Blu-Ray Review
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is the final movie in Peter Jackson's epic trilgoy. Again this is the Theatrical Version but the film and audio are top notch while the video is probably the best presented of the three movies. Here's a review of the Blu-Ray just released last week.

    PS3 News
Huzzah! At last, one of the most successful RPG on the PS3 in Japan is heading to Europe. Demon's Souls has been confirmed for release on June 25 with Namco Bandai handling publishing duties. The game was a hit in Japan when released in February 2009, and finally brought to America where the game has now sold 250,000 units - more then three times the expected 75,000 units that the distributer Atlus was expecting.

Activision has confirmed that Shrek Forever After, obviously a tie-in to the upcoming movie, will be released on PS3 in June 2010. Somewhat impressively the game includes a co-operative multiplayer mode, allowing up to four players to work together through the single player story.

    Blu-Ray News
We have to say we're pretty big Clint Eastwood fans here at Futuregamez and Warner Brothers has just sent through a press release confirming four more of his earlier movies will be released on Blu-Ray including Where Eagles Dare, Absolute Power, Kelly's Heroes and The Rookie. Best of all when the movies hit the shelves on June 2 for a pretty awesome price of $19.95!

    Blu-Ray Review
The Diving Bell & The Butterfly may not be a movie you recognise instantly, but this French film was nominated for four Academy Awards in 2008. The film tells the story of the French editor of Elle magazine who suffers a massive stroke and can only communicate by blinking his eye. A remarkable story, and a great film to match.

April 15, 2010

    Blu-Ray Review
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers is the second movie in the epic trilogy and again this Blu-Ray disc contains the Theatraical movie. We know you'll buy all three discs anyway, but the video transfer in this second film is improved from the slightly disappointing transfer in Fellowship. A great movie, and stunning audio makes this a great purchase still.

    R.I.P. David Battiloro 12/9/1991 ~ 13/4/2010
Dave with Dale Thomas from Collingwood Football Club.

It was a very sad day today. One of the biggest fans of Futuregamez and someone who I definiately call a great friend, David Ballitoro, passed away in the late hours of last night. Stuck in a wheelchair from the time I first knew him years ago he always had a positive outlook on life, and had a wickedly amusing sense of humour. Many PSN users, and particularly those that play FIFA or Modern Warfare online, may have seen the user Wog_On_Wheelz - that was Dave. Despite his physical limitations he really was a god at Modern Warfare and soundly whipped my ass in nearly every match - as well as having one of the highest rankings in the world.

One of the most inspirational people I've ever known. So many late nights on COD, so much fun, such a great friend. You will be missed...

    Blu-Ray Review
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is, as almost everyone would know, the first movie in Peter Jackson's epic trilogy. This Blu-Ray release only contains the theatrical version of the film, but is still highly enjoyable. The audio is fantastic, but what about the video? There has been some debate online and we weigh in with out impressions.

    Industry News
Ex-Infinity Ward employees Jason West and Vince Zampella have announced the formation of their new company Respawn Entertainment. At the moment the company only has those two as President and General Manager respectively. More importantly the company will be working on new IP's, they will retain the rights, but have signed a publishing deal with Electronic Arts. Will other Infinity Ward employees jump ship to join them? Time will tell but they are currently asking for resumes in order to hire staff through their website. Being day one there is, of course, no details on what game they will develop other then "it's going to be a big huge game".

Staying with this Infinity Ward saga for a little longer four other "key" employees have now left the company including Lead software engineer Francesco Gigliotti (7 years at Infinity Ward), Lead designer Todd Alderman (8 years), programmer Jon Shiring (6 years) and designer Mackey McCandlish (8 years). Where will they end up? Who knows, perhaps retirement, but I'd put a little money on some new upstart company... But which one?

    PS3 News

Apparently Killspace Entertainment are currently working on a game based on the 1979 Francis Ford Coppola movie Apocalypse Now. The company was formed in 2009 from employees from a number of companies, but as yet there is no confirmation from the developer, any publisher or any one in particular besides this article. Expect, possibly, something at E3 in a couple of months.

So what was that surprise announcement from Cliff Bleszinski at Epic Games? Well it was actually two games. The first was Gears of War 3 for XBox 360 due in April 2011. More important/exciting for Futuregamez readers is that Electronic Arts will be publishing a game from Epic Games' studio People Can Fly called Bulletstorm which is coming to the PS3 in 2011.

    PS3 News
Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment has announced that F.E.A.R. 3 will be released in Q'4 2010. According to the press release this third instalment of F.E.A.R. delivers a heart-pounding paranormal horror experience, showcasing intense combat, compelling narrative and divergent co-op play that evolves the franchise. Alma returns for F.E.A.R. 3 but this time her sons Point Man and Paxton Fettel will be playable as two distinctly unique experiences in co-operative play. To further ensure extreme terror in F.E.A.R. 3, legendary horror mastermind John Carpenter (Halloween) and critically acclaimed horror comic and script writer Steve Niles (30 Days of Night) provided consultation.

As we all know there is a major spat between ex-Infinity Ward founders Jason West and Vince Zampella and Activision over misplaced loyalties, unpaid royalties and so on. Now, however, Activision has stated in their court documents that the duos actions are "delaying pre-production of Modern Warfare 3". This is despite Zampella/West's claims to the Call of Duty name. Will Modern Warfare 3 be delayed from the rumoured Christmas 2011 release. Possibly, but we won't know for a long time...

    PS3 Review
Resonance of Fate is the latest JRPG from developers tri-Ace and publishers Sega. Indeed the game is coming out at a crowded time for RPG's after a drought in 2009. This game manages to ignite the genre with something quite new and exciting. Here's our full review of this new release.

    Blu-Ray Review
Smokin' Aces 2: Assassins' Ball is the second movie in this franchise, but is actually set before the events of the first movie so some of the characters could return. We actually enjoyed this just as much as, if not more then, the original movie so action fans should check it out as we did with the Blu-Ray disc just released through Universal...

    Blu-Ray Review
Stephen Fry in America sees one of Britain's best comics travel through every state in America. This six hour documentary (split up into six episodes) has some great moments, but also fails to go into enough depth. Still this is unique and worth a look if you like travel documentaries and/or Stephen Fry.

    PS3 News
Bugger! According to reports Crypic Studios have scrapped plans for the Star Trek MMO to be released on consoles. The problem isn't with the technology in the systems but rather the business models behind them.

    PSP News
Australian distributer Mindscape has confirmed that Konami's upcoming PSP game Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker will include a crossover with Capcom's Monster Hunter titles with Solid Snake able to go to an island filled with monsters for some hunting. This can also take place in 4-player online co-op. Furthermore a number of corporate tie-ins were also announced including another Assassin's Creed collaboration, in-game Sony Walkman, in-game Doritos, in-game Pepsi, in-game Mountain Dew and many more.

    Industry News
Cliff Bleszinski, the main man over at Epic Games, was set to unveil an all-new game this week, however he has just pushed that univeiling back to early next week. We don't even know if it will be a PS3 game, quite possibly not given the Gears of War XBox 360 love.

    Blu-Ray News
Walt Disney Studios has confirmed that the 70th Anniversary Edition of Dumbo which is digitally restored and for the first time on Blu-Ray and DVD will be available from 1 July 2010.

    Blu-Ray Review
Shoot 'Em Up is violent, over the top, and obsurd in places (or, indeed, much of the film) but it's wickedly entertaining too. This movie starring Clive Owen and Paul Giamatti is a blast from start to finish - action fans should check it out.

Sony has confirmed that their E3 presentation this year will take place at the Shrine Audutorium from 11:30am PST on June 15th (by our quick calculation that's around 4.30am Australian EST). Microsoft will hold their E3 Presentation the day before while Nintendo is also expected to be sometime on June 15th as well. What will be show? Let the betting begin... PSP2, LittleBigPlanet 2, Warhawk 2?

Sega has confirmed the closure of Sega Studios San Francisco, originally titled Secret Level. While we're sad to see any studios close their output of late has been, well, shit. Consider this long list of games... Golden Axe Beast Rider, Iron Man and Iron Man 2. OK, admittedly we haven't played the latter game which is due in a few months, and this closure won't affect that game apparently, but we're not going to put it near the top, or even middle, of our most wanted of 2010.

    PS3 Preview
ModNation Racers is the newest game game in Sony's Play, Create, Share series (the first being the brilliant LittleBigPlanet) looks fantastic and promises plenty of thrills and spills with 4-player split screen gameplay, and online racing too. Here's a preview...

    Blu-Ray Review
The Passion of the Christ is a brilliant movie, no matter your religion. With Easter weekend just gone we were keen to check out this movie which has just released on Blu-Ray. This 2-disc set (the second is a DVD full of extras) is simply superb.

    Easter Break News
We hope everyone is having a good Easter Break. As you can imagine news is very thin on the ground, so we're in the middle of a few days off. Still we'll be back Tuesday when we'll have a swag of new Blu-Ray reviews and some more game previews too!

    PS3 Review
Just Cause 2 was a game that we hoped would provide some fun, but this is one of the most enjoyable games in recent times. A massive open world with over 300 areas to explore and clear out with enemy soldiers and buildings is only the start... If you like action games, check this out.

Where The Wild Things Are is a Spike Jonze directed based on the very popular childrens book. This movie is certainly unique, with some great visuals but isn't exactly for youngsters. We've grabbed the Blu-Ray, done up the review and here it is...
