    PlayTV News
We have an exclusive for you. According to our spies that like to trickle bits of information for us the PlayTV will be launching in Australia on November 26 with a SRP of $169.95 which is certainly cheaper then we expected. Given store discounts we may see the unit closer to the $140 mark at launch. For those unaware PlayTV essentially turns your PS3 into a TV recorder.

    PS3 News

    PS3 News
Citing "Marketing" reasons Sony America has delayed the release of SOCOM: US Navy SEALs - Fireteam Bravo 3 in America from late 2009 until January 12, 2010. The European/Australian date was scheduled for December, but may also see a delay.

    Blu-Ray News
If you live in America then you may want to consider picking up the Blu-Ray release of District 9. As well as being a great movie the disc will include a demo of God of War 3. Unfortunately the demo won't be on the European version of the disc, but we are trying to confirm that fact for Australia too.

    Blu-Ray News

If you love Gone with the Wind you will be pleased to know the Blu-Ray Ultimate Collector's Edition will also be released for $79.95 and will include the brilliant documentary MGM: When the Lion Roars among a swag of extras.

    PS3 Review
Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is about as hardcore as a videogame gets these days. Team Ninja are back with a new game in their sword slashing ninja franchise. This game looks the part, with intense gameplay, and is a pretty tough, lenghty game too. Here's a review...

    Crazy, cheap-assed PS3 Games
Well here's something worthwhile. BIG W currently have a sale on. I managed to pick up Haze for $5 (yes, cheaper then a burger!), as well as Lego Indiana Jones and Turok for $10 each. Yep, that was three games for $25 - and less if you have a discount card :) Sale is on now, so be quick!

    PS3 News
Infinity Ward has confirmed that their upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will include a couple of third person modes in online multiplayer. This is a first for the franchise which has strictly been a First Person Shooter. It will not be possible to switch between first and third person modes, and third person modes will only allow you to play in third person. The game is out on November 10 - 2 weeks from today!

If you live in the UK you may have heard of the PlayStation House Tour where Sony are touring around the country showing off their latest, and upcoming games. While initially confirmed it now appears that Gran Turismo 5 won't actually be on display. For shame...

    Blu-Ray Review
Monsters Vs Aliens was released earlier this year and took a whopping $US379 million at the worldwide box office. Indeed this latest CG effort from Dreamworks/Paramount really is an impressive release with a gorgeous transfer on Blu-Ray and decent extras too.

October 26, 2009

    PS3 News
Sega has confirmed that the kid-friendly movie tie-in Planet 51 will hit Australian shelves on November 26. That's one month from today.

Sony America has confirmed that the online rental service will be coming to the PS3 in America next month. The service will be free for existing for current Netflix subscribers. There goes another unique selling point for the XBox 360 which had exclusivity for the Netflix service on consoles.

    Blu-Ray Review
Ghosts of Girlfriends Past is another romantic comedy which is basically a remake of A Christmas Carol. The transfer is pretty solid, but the storyline a bit so-so. Still, this may be worth a rental.

    PS3 News
Sales figures for Uncharted 2 have come in and the game is the second-fastest PS3 exclusive game with sales of 835,836 units around the world in the first week alone. The current record holder is Metal Gear Solid 4 which shifted a pretty impressive 1.77 million units in the first week on sale.

Naughty Dog has confirmed that Downloadable content, some free, some to be paid for, will be released on the Playstation Store for Uncharted 2 by the end of the year.

    PSP Review
Dissidia: Final Fantasy is the latest entry in the Final Fantasy universe, and is out now on the PSP. Chris has spent plenty of time with Square-Enix's latest game and walked away with somewhat mixed feelings. Here's his review of this interesting title.

October 23, 2009

    PS3 News
Sega's Bayonetta (a preview we have to update soon!) has received a 40/40 from Famitsu in Japan - on the XBox 360. The PS3 version, which was developed by Sega rather then Platinum Games, received 38/40 due to slightly weaker visuals on PS3. The game is due out in Australia in January 2010.

    PS3 News
Some great news for Australian PS3 owners with the release of PlayTV, the device that turns the system into a Set Top Box styled TV recorder, becoming a step closer. Sony has released version 1.21 of the software (a 24MB download) which apparently allows HD channel recording, and has been tailored for the Australian market. According to our sources the Australian PS3 will be released in late November or early December, and apparently for under $AU200. Expect an official announcement in the coming weeks, and don't worry we're harassing Sony frequently about this.

A long time ago, we're talking 2 years or more, we had Metro 2033 listed for release from developers 4A Games. THQ have now picked up the game, but confirmed it will only be released on PC and XBox 360.

    PS3 Preview
DJ Hero could quite well usher in another big game genre. From the company that brought us Guitar Hero comes this DJ'ing title which comes with an all-new turntable controller. Here's our last minute preview of next weeks release.

October 21, 2009

    Free PS3's!!
Well it's back on. Buy a Bravia TV and you can score a PS3 for free. There will be terms and conditions, and we don't know when this promo ends (it starts at midnight tonight). The company is giving away 25,000 systems in Australia, ermm, perhaps 24,999 units. Check the pretty cool video at this link.

    PS3 News
The BBFC has rated Modern Warfare 2 and slapped the game with an 18 rating. That would cause concern with Australian gamers with many 18 rated games in the UK being Refused Classification in Australia, but we are pleased to report the game has been given an MA15+ rating here with the consumer advice "Strong Violence". All set for November 10 then everyone? Make sure you check out our preview put online today too...

Amazon has sent out e-mails to customers to confirm that God of War Collection has been pushed back a week from November 10 to November 17. Hmmm I seem to recall something else coming out November 10, wonder if that has anything to do with it (see below).

    PS3 Preview
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 should need no introduction. With the original game shifting over 12.5 million copies on two plaforms (PS3 and 360), expectations are sky high for this latest game to impress both critically and commercially. Here's our preview, its last minute, but at least we now have plenty of details!

October 20, 2009

    PS3 News
Sales figures are starting to appear for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Sony should be very happy indeed. In America the game shifted an impressive 440,000 units in the first week on sale, with PS3 system sales increasing around 25% as well. Add in a similar figure for Europe and Japanese sales (both TBA) and we could be looking at a million copies of this game in the first week of sales.

According to the latest PlayStation: The Official Magazine Guerrilla Games are currently deep into development of Killzone 3 for release on the PS3 in 2010. That's not surprising given that the previous game, Killzone 2, has sold over 2 million copies. Don't expect an official announcement until, ohh, let's say E3 2010.

    Blu-Ray Review
Disgrace is actually an Australian production based on the 1999 Booker Prize winning novel by South African author J.M. Coetzee. Set in South Africa this film is littered with fine performances. A review...

    PS3 News
Sony Japan has confirmed that a demo for God of War III will be released on the Japanese Playstation Store on November 19, but gamers will need a redemption code which will be bundled with inFamous which is released there November 5. We can hope the demo will also be released in America this year, but apparently Sony Europe have no plans to bring the demo to Europe before Christmas.

Sony has announced an expansion pack for SOCOM: Confrontation called Cold Front. The expansion pack will add in 5 new maps (2 new, 2 remakes from classic SOCOM games) called Post War City, Moscow Underground, Blizzard, Night Stalker and Vigilance and will also include a new game mode called Arms Run. Throw in snow, 7 new weapons, 3 new special forces (Russian Spetsnaz, Italian Comsubin and Dutch KCT) and you have a pretty decent expansion pack for $US14.99 when it is released, soon.

Do you still play Calling All Cars online? If so then you may be disappointed by the message that now pops-up online stating that "On January 14, 2010 the servers for Calling All Cars will be taken off-line. We would like to thank ya for yar support." We don't have the game so can't confirm for ourselves, but it's a little disappointing for any game to have such as short shelf (or should that be network) life like that.

    PSP News
Now this is plain out confusing/shit/depressing. Apparently, according to Sony's Eric Lempel in an interview with Joystiq "It's up to individual third parties to decide if and when to publish their UMD releases on PSN". So right now there are games being released on PSP UMD which have not been released for digital download meaning those purchasing the PSPgo will be out of luck. WTF?! Surely Sony need to sort this out. A couple of big titles affected include NBA 2K10 and Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes.

    Blu-Ray Review
New Town Killers isn't a movie I had heard of prior to receiving the disc in the mail for review, but it was a pretty entertaining movie worth checking out. Here's our review of this release from Eagle Entertainment.

October 18, 2009

    Blu-Ray Review
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete has just been released on Blu-Ray through Sony Pictures. This "Complete" version of the film adds in a rather meaty 26 minutes of new footage, has a solid audio and visual presentation, and includes a few decent extras too. Check out our Blu-Ray review now.

October 15, 2009

    PS3 News
Hideo Kojima has said that he is still has a long list of future projects but "and of course Zone of the Enders is one of the... on top of the list". Kojima is currently working on two new Metal Gear titles, one for PSP and the other for PS3/360.

October 14, 2009

    PS3 News
Namco Bandai has confirmed that Splatterhouse will be released in 2010 on XBox 360 and PS3. The game was being developed by BottleRocket Entertainment before Namco Bandai took the game off them citing development issues. It is believed the game is now being worked on in-house.

    PS3 Review
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 is a game which action and superhero fans would have been looking at for some time now. Not content with a single superhero to use in a game? Well this sequel gives you over 20 superheroes to play with. This is a solid action game for Marvel fans.

    PS3 News
Seems that every man and his dog is going crazy for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and rightfully so. The news we have for you, the game is out now in America with European and Australian gamers due to see the game hit shelves this Thursday. The game was tremendous in the online Beta, and the game is receiving moster review scores (expect our review in a week or two). If you haven't pre-ordered this game we suggest you do so (you can check Play-Asia's latest pricing here).

We love Sony... We've just received our copy of EyePet in the post yesterday and after playing with our furry little creature for a day have had some great moments with him. The game is due out at the end of October in Australia and you can look forward to our review soon, but for now, we're pretty confident in saying that if you have youngsters the game is worth the $AU79.95 pricetag especially given it ships with the PS3 camera.

    PSP News
FluffyLogic has confirmed that they are porting Savage Moon is coming to the PSP. Titled Savage Moon: The Hera Campaign the game will include new weapons, new bugs, news maps and new gameplay. As yet no price or release date has been announced.

    Blu-Ray Review
Race to Witch Mountain may sound familar. That's because there were two originals in the 1970's, Escape to Witch Mountain from 1975 and Return from Witch Mountain in 1978. This latest Disney movie starting Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is actually quite entertaining with some good actions sequences and a great transfer to Blu-Ray. A review.

October 12, 2009

    PS3 News
Well it looks like there may be a Resistance 3 in the works. A film is currently in production called Battle: Los Angeles in Shreveport, Louisiana and on one of the billboards is a big Resistance 3 logo with a shilouette of the Statue of Liberty. The film is being made at Sony Pictures for an early 2011 release.

    Blu-Ray Review
The Sky Crawlers is the latest movie from the director of the two Ghost in the Shell movies, Mamoru Oshii. This latest animated movie has some fantastic dogfights, but is otherwise somewhat disappointing. Still anime fans may want to check out this Sony Pictures release.

    PS3 News
Gearbox has confirmed that Borderlands has gone gold. The game looks like being one of the best shooters this year and is due out around the world in the last week of October.

    PS3 Review
Digger HD was released on the Playstation Store last week. The classic 1980's puzzle game has been remade for the PS3. While the visuals and audio have been given an upgrade this is the same classic gameplay. Here's our review.

You know it's coming up to Christmas when the Playstation Store updates get more and more loaded with content, and this week is impressive with two new gamesm Comet Crash and Digger HD released (we'll have reviews of both of those quite soon), more Fallout 3 DLC (Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta), DLC for five different games, Guitar Hero 5 and Rock Band tracks, videos, themes and a tonne of PSP content to keep the PSPgo owners happy including some more Minis. For Americans your store highlight is the release of Critter Crunch for $US6.99 while Japanese gamers may want to check out the demo of Bayonetta.

As we all know Free Radical Design, the company behind TimeSplitterS was bought by Crytek when they went broke, and we now know the developer, renamed Crytek UK, is working on an all-new First Person Shooter. Before going broke the company was working on TimeSplitters 4 and a new Star Wars: Battlefront game.

Remember those rumours of a delay for Sega and Obsidian Entertainment's rather good looking Alpha Protocol, well it now seems the game has been delayed until Q'2 2010. Sega have updated the release date on their official page for the game which you can see here. No official word from Sega yet though.

October 6, 2009

    PS3 News
Sony America has confirmed that EyePet will not be released in that territory prior to Christmas with some retailers shifting the game to April 2010. The good news for European and Australian gamers is that SCEE are still planning a 2009 release for our territory with a SCE Australian rep confirming today that "SCE Australia are still tracking a late 2009 release for EyePet.". Officially Sony America have stated that "EyePet is an innovative and exciting new IP to the PS3 platform and SCEA marketing will spend additional time to continue educating consumers and retail channels, setting the table for a successful product launch. We will provide more details on an updated launch timeframe very soon." The game will ship with the PS3 camera for $AU79.95 on (hopefully) October 29.

Activision has confirmed that DJ Hero will be released in the UK on October 30. Australians can also expect a release around that date.

Just a quick note to let everyone know that the link to Guitar Hero 5 review has been fixed. Sorry about that folks, we have suitably punished the slaves working on the site...

    PSP News
Sony America has confirmed that the PSP version of LittleBigPlanet will be hitting American shelves on November 17. Accordingly SCEE has told VG247 that the European release is targeting a "similar time frame".

    PS3 Preview
Borderlands is, without a doubt, going to be one of the biggest new IP's this year. From Gearbox comes this FPS which includes plenty of RPG elements and 4-player online co-op. It looks pretty fantastic too, so make sure you check this preview out.

October 5, 2009

    PS3 News
Apaprently Black Bean Games (who develop the SBK games) has picked up the license to create an official WRC game on all platforms. Previous Sony had held the license and made a pretty good fist of it so Black Bean will have their work cut out to impress.

    PS3 Review
G-Force could be likened to Ratchet & Clank - yes, we said it. Sure it's based on a kids movie, and it's a game aimed at youngsters as a result but the recent movie has made a splash at the box office and this video game tie-in is a decent effort as well. Here's our review.

October 4, 2009

    PS3 News

    PS3 Review
Guitar Hero 5 is the latest game in Activision's multi-million franchise and this time the release comes with a massive 85 songs, improved game modes, and any combo of instruments. Is this still a must have game though? Read our full review now to find out.

    PS3 News
Sony have updated Playstation Home to version 1.30 which adds in a tonne of new features including universal game launching, the ability to preview clothing in the stores before purchasing, new emotes and actions (including ska dancing!), and plenty of other improvements. Unfortunately after applying the update some people (including us) had an issue with the program locking up at the "Initializing" screen. Sony have acknowledged the issue and posted a fix (which basically involves deleting Home) here.

Following the release of Firmware 3.01 there were some very isolated reports that the latest firmware caused issues with the Blu-Ray player in the PS3. Sony have been looking into the issue and have concluded that any issues are not related to the Firmware update, and users will need to follow normal warranty/repair procedures.

    Blu-Ray Review
The Siege is an interesting movie for a number of reasons. Made before September 11 this movie is a chilling fortelling of the events of that fateful day in 2001, and how far a country would go to protect itself. This is another solid Fox Blu-Ray release which is out now.

    PSP News
Today is the day that the PSPgo launches into stores across Australia. For $AU449.95 you get a shiney new console without UMD drive, but also a copy of Gran Turismo PSP which you can download after getting a code via e-mail redemption for the next 10 days. Anyway it will be interesting to see how the dearer console (the old PSP-3000 model sells for $AU279.95, or $AU299.95 with LittleBigPlanet soon) actually sells in Australia. Electronics Boutique aren't selling the system, and we're unsure about other retailers as yet. Anyway it is a sexy piece of kit, and, well, just go and buy it.

    PS3 News
Activision has confirmed that their upcoming Band Hero will ship with new, slightly modified, instruments. The drum kit has floating pads which makes them quieter, as well as a more responsive kick pedal, a place for your drumsticks and adjustable heights. The guitar has a better strum bar and neck slider solo area.

    PS3 Preview
NBA 2K10 is a game that should need no introduction. 2K Games are set to unleash their latest NBA title on the PS3 in a weeks time and it looks fantastic. With many improvements over last years already great title this looks hot.
