Given store discounts we may see the unit closer to the $140 mark at launch. For those unaware PlayTV essentially turns your PS3 into a TV recorder.

Unfortunately the demo won't be on the European version of the disc, but we are trying to confirm that fact for Australia too.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is about as hardcore as a videogame gets these days. Team Ninja are back with a new game in their sword slashing ninja franchise. This game looks the part, with intense gameplay, and is a pretty tough, lenghty game too. Here's a review...

Crazy, cheap-assed PS3 Games
Well here's something worthwhile. BIG W currently have a sale on. I managed to pick up Haze for $5 (yes, cheaper then a burger!), as well as Lego Indiana Jones and Turok for $10 each. Yep, that was three games for $25 - and less if you have a discount card :) Sale is on now, so be quick!

Infinity Ward has confirmed that their upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will include a couple of third person modes in online multiplayer. If you live in the UK you may have heard of the PlayStation House Tour where Sony are touring around the country showing off their latest, and upcoming games. While initially confirmed it now appears that Gran Turismo 5 won't actually be on display. For shame...
Monsters Vs Aliens was released earlier this year and took a whopping $US379 million at the worldwide box office. Indeed this latest CG effort from Dreamworks/Paramount really is an impressive release with a gorgeous transfer on Blu-Ray and decent extras too.

Sega's Bayonetta (a preview we have to update soon!) has received a 40/40 from Famitsu in Japan - on the XBox 360. The PS3 version, which was developed by Sega rather then Platinum Games, received 38/40 due to slightly weaker visuals on PS3. The game is due out in Australia in January 2010.
October 22, 2009
Some great news for Australian PS3 owners with the release of PlayTV, the device that turns the system into a Set Top Box styled TV recorder, becoming a step closer. Sony has released version 1.21 of the software (a 24MB download) which apparently allows HD channel recording, and has been tailored for the Australian market. According to our sources the Australian PS3 will be released in late November or early December, and apparently for under $AU200. Expect an official announcement in the coming weeks, and don't worry we're harassing Sony frequently about this.
A long time ago, we're talking 2 years or more, we had Metro 2033 listed for release from developers 4A Games. THQ have now picked up the game, but confirmed it will only be released on PC and XBox 360.

October 21, 2009
Well it's back on. Buy a Bravia TV and you can score a PS3 for free. There will be terms and conditions, and we don't know when this promo ends (it starts at midnight tonight). The company is giving away 25,000 systems in Australia, ermm, perhaps 24,999 units. Check the pretty cool video at this link.
The BBFC has rated Modern Warfare 2 and slapped the game with an 18 rating. That would cause concern with Australian gamers with many 18 rated games in the UK being Refused Classification in Australia, but we are pleased to report the game has been given an MA15+ rating here with the consumer advice "Strong Violence". All set for November 10 then everyone? Make sure you check out our preview put online today too...

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 should need no introduction. With the original game shifting over 12.5 million copies on two plaforms (PS3 and 360), expectations are sky high for this latest game to impress both critically and commercially. Here's our preview, its last minute, but at least we now have plenty of details!
October 20, 2009
Sales figures are starting to appear for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Sony should be very happy indeed. In America the game shifted an impressive 440,000 units in the first week on sale, with PS3 system sales increasing around 25% as well. Add in a similar figure for Europe and Japanese sales (both TBA) and we could be looking at a million copies of this game in the first week of sales.
According to the latest PlayStation: The Official Magazine Guerrilla Games are currently deep into development of Killzone 3 for release on the PS3 in 2010. That's not surprising given that the previous game, Killzone 2, has sold over 2 million copies. Don't expect an official announcement until, ohh, let's say E3 2010.

Sony Japan has confirmed that a demo for God of War III will be released on the Japanese Playstation Store on November 19, but gamers will need a redemption code which will be bundled with inFamous which is released there November 5. Sony has announced an expansion pack for SOCOM: Confrontation called Cold Front. The expansion pack will add in 5 new maps (2 new, 2 remakes from classic SOCOM games) called Post War City, Moscow Underground, Blizzard, Night Stalker and Vigilance and will also include a new game mode called Arms Run. Throw in snow, 7 new weapons, 3 new special forces (Russian Spetsnaz, Italian Comsubin and Dutch KCT) and you have a pretty decent expansion pack for $US14.99 when it is released, soon.
Do you still play Calling All Cars online? If so then you may be disappointed by the message that now pops-up online stating that "On January 14, 2010 the servers for Calling All Cars will be taken off-line. We would like to thank ya for yar support." We don't have the game so can't confirm for ourselves, but it's a little disappointing for any game to have such as short shelf (or should that be network) life like that.
Now this is plain out confusing/shit/depressing. Apparently, according to Sony's Eric Lempel in an interview with Joystiq "It's up to individual third parties to decide if and when to publish their UMD releases on PSN". So right now there are games being released on PSP UMD which have not been released for digital download meaning those purchasing the PSPgo will be out of luck. WTF?! Surely Sony need to sort this out. A couple of big titles affected include NBA 2K10 and Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes.
New Town Killers isn't a movie I had heard of prior to receiving the disc in the mail for review, but it was a pretty entertaining movie worth checking out. Here's our review of this release from Eagle Entertainment.

Seems that every man and his dog is going crazy for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and rightfully so. The news we have for you, the game is out now in America with European and Australian gamers due to see the game hit shelves this Thursday. If you haven't pre-ordered this game we suggest you do so (you can check Play-Asia's latest pricing here).
We love Sony... We've just received our copy of EyePet in the post yesterday and after playing with our furry little creature for a day have had some great moments with him. The game is due out at the end of October in Australia and you can look forward to our review soon, but for now, we're pretty confident in saying that if you have youngsters the game is worth the $AU79.95 pricetag especially given it ships with the PS3 camera.

Race to Witch Mountain may sound familar. That's because there were two originals in the 1970's, Escape to Witch Mountain from 1975 and Return from Witch Mountain in 1978. This latest Disney movie starting Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is actually quite entertaining with some good actions sequences and a great transfer to Blu-Ray. A review.
October 12, 2009
Well it looks like there may be a Resistance 3 in the works. A film is currently in production called Battle: Los Angeles in Shreveport, Louisiana and on one of the billboards is a big Resistance 3 logo with a shilouette of the Statue of Liberty. The film is being made at Sony Pictures for an early 2011 release.
The Sky Crawlers is the latest movie from the director of the two Ghost in the Shell movies, Mamoru Oshii. This latest animated movie has some fantastic dogfights, but is otherwise somewhat disappointing. Still anime fans may want to check out this Sony Pictures release.

Sony America has confirmed that EyePet will not be released in that territory prior to Christmas with some retailers shifting the game to April 2010. Officially Sony America have stated that "EyePet is an innovative and exciting new IP to the PS3 platform and SCEA marketing will spend additional time to continue educating consumers and retail channels, setting the table for a successful product launch. We will provide more details on an updated launch timeframe very soon." The game will ship with the PS3 camera for $AU79.95 on (hopefully) October 29.

Apaprently Black Bean Games (who develop the SBK games) has picked up the license to create an official WRC game on all platforms. Previous Sony had held the license and made a pretty good fist of it so Black Bean will have their work cut out to impress.
G-Force could be likened to Ratchet & Clank - yes, we said it. Sure it's based on a kids movie, and it's a game aimed at youngsters as a result but the recent movie has made a splash at the box office and this video game tie-in is a decent effort as well. Here's our review.
October 4, 2009

Sony have updated Playstation Home to version 1.30 which adds in a tonne of new features including universal game launching, the ability to preview clothing in the stores before purchasing, new emotes and actions (including ska dancing!), and plenty of other improvements. Unfortunately after applying the update some people (including us) had an issue with the program locking up at the "Initializing" screen. Sony have acknowledged the issue and posted a fix (which basically involves deleting Home) here.
Following the release of Firmware 3.01 there were some very isolated reports that the latest firmware caused issues with the Blu-Ray player in the PS3. Sony have been looking into the issue and have concluded that any issues are not related to the Firmware update, and users will need to follow normal warranty/repair procedures.
The Siege is an interesting movie for a number of reasons. Made before September 11 this movie is a chilling fortelling of the events of that fateful day in 2001, and how far a country would go to protect itself. This is another solid Fox Blu-Ray release which is out now.
October 1, 2009
Today is the day that the PSPgo launches into stores across Australia. For $AU449.95 you get a shiney new console without UMD drive, but also a copy of Gran Turismo PSP which you can download after getting a code via e-mail redemption for the next 10 days. Anyway it will be interesting to see how the dearer console (the old PSP-3000 model sells for $AU279.95, or $AU299.95 with LittleBigPlanet soon) actually sells in Australia. Electronics Boutique aren't selling the system, and we're unsure about other retailers as yet. Anyway it is a sexy piece of kit, and, well, just go and buy it.
