Well you may have noticed on the front page that we're taking a short break here at Futuregamez.net. The wife and I are going on a cruise around the Pacific for a couple of weeks. During this time I won't be updating the site, but will get any major news online as soon as I return on April 9. See you all soon...
Activision have dated Modern Warfare 2 for November 10, 2009 here in Australia and other territories around the globe. Little else is known about the game at this stage but the company has confirmed the Call of Duty name has been dropped. You can find a teaser trailer here.
Insomniac has confirmed that Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time will be released on the Playstation 3 in (American) Autumn 2009. The game follows Ratchet on his mission to rescue Clank from Dr. Nefarious.
Still waiting for Playstation Home to really take off? Well according to PlayStation Home director Jack Buser we should be seeing approximately three new spaces each month from now on. That would certainly be welcome news, and hopefully these spaces will also be coming to Europe which is a little barren at the moment.
Resident Evil 5 is Capcom's latest game in their survival horror franchise and the title is available now. It's pretty fantastic too with some stunning visuals and great boss encounters. If you're a fan of the franchise then you'll want to check this out!

According to this story over at Eurogamer PS3 Firmware 2.70 is due to be released in April. According to reports the Firmware will allow you to log into a system as two users at once? Why? So you can play split-screen co-op with seperate save filess in games like Resistance 2 - sweet.
According to rumours starting to circulate on the web Katamari Damacy Tribute is coming to PS3 this year, and best of all the game will include 1080p visuals.
Capcom's Resident Evil producer Masachika Kawata has confirmed that Resident Evil 6 is not even in development yet, and that gamers shouldn't expect a quick development either. Apparently development of the game could take up to 8 years! He stated to The Gadget Show that "We haven't decided whether we're going to make Resident Evil 6 yet, but if we do, it could take anywhere up to eight years, but hopefully only four." We suggest you don't pre-order!
Japan gets it on April 16. America is getting it in June. Square-Enix aren't willing to confirm though that Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete will be released on Blu-Ray in Europe. Hopefully this will change though...
Goldfinger is the third James Bond movie starring Sean Connery, and is still one of the most successful - critically and commercially. It certainly contains a brilliant transfer and the extras are equally superb. Here's our review of this superb Blu-Ray release from Fox.

Sony has today announced a price cut for the Playstation 3 - sort of. The company has officially dropped the price of the Playstation 3 Development kits. The DECR-1400A for North America now costs $US2,000 and the PAL version will set developers back 1,700 Euros. No word on a consumer/retail PS3 price cut sadly...
2K Games has today announced that Max Payne 3 is in development at Rockstar Vancouver for the PS3 and will be released in Summer 2009 here in Australia (that being a likely Christmas release).
Capcom have delayed the release of the Versus Pack for Resident Evil 5 in Japan from March 26 until April.
Pinocchio: 70th Anniversay Edition is a movie which almost everyone would have seen in thir childhoot. Disney's animated classic has been cleaned up and given a new lease of life on Blu-Ray. This disc looks spectacular and is choc full of extras. This is worthy of being added to any Blu-Ray collection.

Electronic Arts have confirmed that Need for Speed Shift will be released on the PS3 in Europe on September 17, 2009 with America to follow on September 22, 2009. Wonder if this version will suck balls like the previous couple?!
Despite reports that the subtitle had been dropped 2K has confirmed that Bioshock 2's full title is still Bioshock 2: Sea of Dreams. The game is due out in late 2009.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine is certain to be a hit. With the movie due out in only a couple of short weeks Activision are now putting the final touches on the video game tie-in. It looks pretty good, let's hope it plays just as well.

According to Q-Games PixelJunk Eden Encore will be hitting the Playstation Network this April - that's only a couple of short weeks away! The upgrade will include a zero gravity option, mirror worlds, new music from Baiyon.
According to reports surfacing online Sony Computer Entertainment is now, since October 1 2008, charging developers 16 cents per Gigabyte of data downloaded from the Playstation Store. This includes full games, trailers, and even free demos and patches. Understandably some developers are pretty miffed at this. If, for instance, they put up a 1GB demo, and 500,000 people download it that will cost the company $US80,000!
2K has confirmed they are aiming for a simultaneous release on all platforms for Bioshock 2. There had been rumours that like the first game it may have been a timed exclusive on XBox 360. The game is due in late 2009.
Dumb & Dumber is one of Jim Carrey's earliest movies, and is available now on Blu-Ray. It's not the best transfer we've ever seen on the format, but it is an upgrade over the DVD release - certainly in terms of audio. Worth a look for fans. Here's our review.

Looking forward to Uncharted 2, well you're not alone. Naughty Dog have spoken a little about the game and stated that weather will affect the gameplay. Of particular note is the snow. It will gather on Nathan's clothes while outside and only melt when indoors, footprints will be left in the snow, and the snowfall will likely affect your visibility.
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian is the second movie in the franchise based on the books by C.S. Lewis and is available now on Blu-Ray. The movie is impressive and the transfer from Disney is quite stunning. Here's our full review.

Batman: Arkham Asylum is certain to generate a lot of interest. Anything to do with Batman is hot at the moment, and this game from Eidos is looking pretty damn sweet. We provide the details, and the latest screens, in this preview.

Tecmo is expected to announce Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is in development for the Playstation 3 for release in Q'3 2009 next week at the GDC. The game will be an expanded version of the XBox 360 game Ninja Gaiden 2 which was relesaed last year.
Sega has confirmed that Alpha Protocol will be released in October 2009.
God how long has it been since we had PS2 news worth reporting? Well here's some good news. According to reports Secret Agent Clank is being ported from the PSP to PS2.
Street Fighter is a movie we've had a few readers asking about being released on Blu-Ray. With the latest Street Fighter game being released last month, Sony have released the 1994 movie on Blu-Ray. The transfer is surprisingly good, the movie is, well, not. Still, fans will be interested...

Namco has confirmed that Battlerocket was taken off the Splatterhouse development due to "performance issues". Essentially the developer wasn't meeting the targets or expectations which was placed upon development of the game. Development is now being handled at Namco America.
Capcom has confirmed they have shipped 4 million copies of Resident Evil 5 to retailers. We've almost finished the game here and can only say - WOW! You won't be disappointed.
Phantom Punch is Eagle Entertainment's latest release on Blu-Ray. Sonny Liston may not be the household name of Cassius Clay, but the two did fight - twice. This is the story of the 'other man', and his inspirational rise to fame. One for sports fans to check out.

Enjoying F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin? We quite enjoyed the game. Now the developers Monolith have confirmed that a downloadable pack called Toy Soldiers will be released in April. The best news, the download will be free! This mode shrinks the soldiers to a few inches high to battle it out on a pinball machine. Wierd, yes. But it sounds like fun.

Activision CFO Thomas Tippl has re-confirmed the news that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be released during 2009. The game, apparently, is "looking incredible".
Crytek, developers of Crysis on PC, and purchaser of Free Radical Design, have confirmed they are working on CryEngine3. The good news is that while their two previous engines have been focused on PC development, this third engine is also being built with consoles, including next-gen (PS4) systems.
Famitsu Magazine in Japan has confirmed the news that Atelier Rorana, a JRPG being developed by Gust, is coming to the PS3 as an exclusive. More news later this month.
Street Fighter IV sees Capcom's fighting series back in an all new, and revamped, outing. In fact this is the first entirely new outing for around a decade now. The game really does look superb with a mix of 2D and 3D visuals, and it plays just as well. Here's our review...

Dynasty Warriors Gundam 2 is one of those games that, if youre a fan of either the game or animated series, will have you most excited. The Dynasty Warriors franchise is big business, but merge it with Gundam and you have something quite enormous. This second game in the series is due out on PS3 soon and we've taken a look.

UFC Ultimate Comebacks isn't a movie, but rather some of the best comeback fights from the Ultimate Fighting Championship over the years. The transfer is adequate but the real value is in the quality of the fights on this disc - they are simply (as the title suggest) some of the best ever comebacks.

Early estimates are in for sales of Resident Evil 5 in Japan (where the game is called Biohazard 5), and there is plenty of good news for Sony. Estimates put the PS3 versions sales at 350,000 units, while the XBox 360 only managed 74,000 units. Meanwhile Yakuza 3 has shifted a further 61,000 units which adds to the first week sales of 357,000 units.
As we are all pretty well aware Resident Evil 5 is due out this week and to celebrate Capcom are holding a launch party on March 12 in San Francisco. The best news though is that Capcom have confirmed that we can expect some "new game announcements". Exciting...
Black Rock, the developers of the under-selling but bloody brilliant Pure, have confirmed they are working on a street racing game called Split Second.

Ubisoft's I Am Alive is a game still shrouded in mystery. Ubisoft has just confirmed that development of the game has moved from Paris based developer Darkworks to Ubisoft Shanghai. The game is currently due out by March 2010.
Dead Space was one of the best games we played last year (we didn't review it because, well, EA tend to have issues with us). Now the sequel has been detailed slightly. Called Dead Space: Extraction the game is actually a prequel set approximately three weeks before the original game. No release date yet, Christmas is likely.
That rather juicy looking PS3 exclusive game inFamous has been given a release date of June 2009.
Planet Terror is one of the bloodiest, most action packed movies we have seen in some time and it's well worth checking out. This is Rodriguez at his directorial finest and the transfer to Blu-Ray is top notch as well. Here's our full review.

Ubisoft has confirmed that the Prince of Persia Epilogue content is now available through the Playstation Store for $AU15.95. This content continues the story of the Prince and Elika with a brand-new epic adventure. Game features include:
- New Region: The Underground Palace – A corrupted underground palace from which the Prince and Elika need to escape in a new epic journey.
- New Power: Energize – Reconstruct destroyed areas of the environment to create a path and rush through it before it vanishes.
- New High Pace: The new trap challenge – The Prince and Elika will face more cunning foes, more clever traps and level design, adding more to the difficulty level in over three hours of gameplay.
- New Attack: Sprinting Clash – A duel move that lets you or the enemy trigger a sprint attack, charging towards each other, clashing your weapons fiercely.
- New Unlockable Skins: From the early development of the game, the Prototype characters of the Prince and Elika.

Ubisoft has confirmed that Tenchu: Shadow Assassin's will be coming to the PSP in Australia. The game includes 17 historically accurate weapons and sees you playing as Rikimaru and Ayame, elite ninjas who must use their lethal skills to keep the peace in feudal Japan. The game is due out in April.

Yesterday we put up the news about Relentless Software's new game. We can now confirm that the game is for the Playstation 3, and will be released via the Playstation Network. No other date or details yet though...
Epic has confirmed that Unreal Tournament’s Titan Pack has been delayed for the Playstation 3 due to the lengthy certification process - but only by two weeks. The downloadable pack will now launch on March 19th.
Stormrise is probably a game that has been a little overlooked in early 2009 with several other titles grabbing much of the limelight. That's a shame as The Creative Assembly are back with an all-new RTS game which adds in the element of verticality. It looks pretty impressive and here's a preview for you to check out.

Ubisoft has finally cofirmed that World in Conflict: Soviet Assault will not be coming to consoles. The game, which will be released as an expansion pack on PC's had originally been announced for release on consoles as well.
Relentless Software, developers of the hit series Buzz on Sony's systems, have confirmed they will be self-publsihing a secret project they are working on. There are a couple of reasons they could do this a) the company may want to handle their own publishing b) it may be a downloadable title or c) it may be released on non-Sony consoles. The only hint of what the game may be is that it will be another "Social" title.

Why, for the love of god, won't Sega announce this game for release outside Japan. With Famitsu giving it a score of 38/40 we have not learnt from Sega that Yakuza 3 on the PS3 has shifted over 300,000 units in the first week on sale in Japan. Let's hope Sega, or Sony with a truckload of cash for them, have a change of heart.
Well this a rumour of course until announced by Sony at E3 later this year (or perhaps not). Apparently there will indeed be a new PSP announced this year - which is also known as the PSP2. With a rumoured model of PSP-4000 the unit will include a slide out screen with all the buttons placed behind the screen. When closed only the shoulder buttons will be accessible. Shiny's Dave Perry has even commented that the new system will be without a UMD drive, meaning downloadable media only to Memory stick or internal hard drive.
Vin Diesel Wheelman is a game we have been waiting for since first being announced in 2006. Despite Midway almost going broke in recent weeks this latest game actually looks a treat and will be co-published by Ubisoft in late March. We take a look at what to expect.

Futurama: Into the Wild Green Yonder is the fourth and final Futurama movie, and is out on Blu-Ray today. Not only is the movie quite amusing, but the transfer from Fox is simply stunning. Here's our review of this disc which all fans of the series must check out.
