The Playstation Store has been updated and the biggest news is that PixelJunk Eden has been released for $AU12.95 and we have also got a couple of new trailers and wallpapers. Stay tuned for the American Store update details.
Of course Gran Turismo TV will be updated in the next day or so with some pretty big upgrades for not only GTTV, but also the game. Here's the details:
A few other notes about Gran Turismo TV for you to keep in mind:
For the first two weeks only, we are providing all pay-per-view content for at a discounted price of $US0.99! It’s a good way to get a taste Gran Turismo TV. The HD content we shoot for our exclusive stuff looks pretty amazing. Following the initial two-week period, content will start at $US1.99. So start downloading away!
Be sure to check the full content list for a full content list, as we will be adding new programs on a regular basis.
Gran Turismo TV will also include new features that allow viewers to fast forward, rewind, and move between chapters when viewing video content.
Viewers can download up to 8 episodes simultaneously and pause individual downloads
In addition, other gameplay enhancements come with this update, like fixes in penalty judgments, more tire choices for Time Trial and improved physics during collisions between cars during online races (YES! We’ve been carefully monitoring players behaviors online and all your comments on the forums.)
Blu-Ray Review National Treasure is a modern day Indiana Jones. At least it was until this years fourth Indy outing. Nic Cage stars in this box office smash hit which has been given the Blu-Ray treatment from Walt Disney Studios, and the results are impressive.

Sony has released Firmware 2.42 for the PS3 today. The update 'improves the playback quality of some PlayStation 3 and PlayStation format software'. Hmmm, seems to be the standard thing really. Some people, ourselves included, had trouble downloading directly through the PS3 (we eventually downloaded it through the PC to USB Drive).
Paramount have scheduled The Incredible Hulk for release on Blu-Ray on October 23rd according to EzyDVD. No word yet on extras on the disc.
PS3 Review Beijing 2008 is, as the name kind of suggest, the videogame tie-in for the upcoming Olympics. With the Olympics a little over a week away there was no better time to check out this latest PS3 release which includes 8-player online gameplay. Developers Eurocom have done a decent job overall. Here's our full review.
Happy Birthday Arnie! That's right it's Arnold Schwarzenegger's 61st birthday today. Go put on a Blu-Ray Arnie movie and celebrate one of the greatest action heros of all time - we're checking out The Sixth Day at the moment. The next 12 months will be big for Arnie fans as Terminator 4 is due for release, although it remains unclear if Arnie will even have a cameo at this stage. John Connor will be played by Christian Bale who is stars in another little action movie at the moment, The Dark Knight. Check that movie out if you haven't - it's superb.
July 29, 2008
Activision Blizzard have released their latest release schedule - we haven't seen it direct from them yet - and there are a couple of big surprises including the non-inclusion of several Vivendi titles including Brutal Legend, 50 Cent Blood on the Sand, Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust, Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, Ghostbusters and World in Conflict: Soviet Assault. With the merger between Activision and Vivendi almost complete Mike Griffith CEO of Activision Publishing has stated "We have conducted a thorough review of Vivendi Games' brand portfolio and are retaining those franchises and titles that are a strong fit with our long-term product strategy. We are reviewing our options regarding those titles that we will not be publishing." Time will tell what this means for upcoming 'missing' games, however they may be cancelled, sold off or re-picked up by Activision Blizzard in due course.
Capcom has confirmed that Bionic Commando Rearmed will be released on the Playstation Store in Europe and America on August 14th (and hopefully Australia we might add!).
Well call me a bitch and spank me around. YOu know why Electronic Arts have canned the PS3 verison of Red Alert 3. Because the PS3 is tought to develop for. I'm not shitting you. It's too hard for EA to develop games on the system. To quote Amer Ajami "PS3 is a very powerful system but as you guys know it's very exotic and tough to develop for and our engine really at the time wasn't designed for PS3."
PS3 Preview Prince of Persia on the PS3 is, without a doubt, a game to watch. Indeed the Prince is back! Well, that's not exactly true as this next-gen release tells an entirely new story, with a new Prince. One thing is certain though, this looks stunning.
July 28, 2008
PS3 Review SingStar Vol. 2 is the second SingStar title on the PS3, and is available in stores now. As well as giving gamers 30 new tracks to test their vocal chords to, there is a new mode as well. Here's a review of Sony's latest karaoke title.
July 27, 2008
PSP Preview LocoRoco 2 was one of the surprise announcements for E3 2008 and its confirmation was one met with much joy. The original LocoRoco was one of the best games on PSP, and this sequel is due out soon. Just as colourful, and just as entertaining this should be a hit in late 2008.
PS3 Preview Sonic Unleashed is yet another game in Sega's long running series. To be honest though it has been quite a while since we've seen a great Sonic game, this one could deliver the goods. It looks good, and hopefully it will play well too.
July 26, 2008
Midway has confirmed at the San Diego Comic Con that the Vin Diesel starring game, The Wheelman, has been delayed from October to Q'1 2008.
Capcom has confirmed that the release of Bionic Commando Rearmed on the Playstation Store won't happen in Japan on July 30 as intended. Instead the game has been pushed back to a date TBA. No word yet on the reason for the delay, or a date for Europe/Australia.
Wanting to know when you'll be seeing more games with Trophies. Well Naughty Dog has confirmed that Tropies for Uncharted: Drake's Fortune should be enabled on August 22nd (it's still not 100% confirmed, but they are targeting the date). Time to get out one of the PS3's best games again!
Atari has confirmed that the PS3 version of Alone in the Dark will be released this November. It will be interesting to see the response to this game, other versions have received 'favourable' to 'complete junk' type reviews.
We all know there's a movie based on God of War coming, and fanboys should be delighted in that fact. MGM, via a press release for a new Robocop movie, have confirmed that Brett Ratner will be directing God of War. Now some people absolutely hate Brett Ratner, I don't. X-Men 3 was his movie, and while it wasn't great, it did fit into the other movies quite well. The big issue with that movie was it was such a rushed development schedule as Fox wanted it out on a certain date and Brett Ratner came in very late. He has also directed the Rush Hour trilogy, and Red Dragon. Sure, you may find some bigger or better directors, but give the guy a break. By turning against him, we are only going to dilute MGM's resolve to put time, money and effort into this movie. By supporting this project, and director, hopefully MGM will give him the creative freedom, and finances, to make this the movie we all want.
July 25, 2008
Well here's something you don't see every day, a game getting a classification at the OFLC when it hasn't even been announced. The game is the PS3 title Linger in Shadows. The game has been rated G (see here). Two questions are raised. 1) Why wasn't this shown at E3 2008 if it is so close to release - or at least complete enough to show the OFLC, and 2) when will we see this gorgeous looking game from SCEA/Plastic. Want to see what you're missing check out this leaked trailer with some details.
Famitsu has scored Soul Calibur IV a whopping 35 out of 40 (that being 9, 9, 9, 8). The game is due out here on July 31st.
Speaking of unannounced games at the OFLC, Singstar Amped was classified PG on 7/7/08. As yet Sony haven't announced the game, tracklist or release date.
July 24, 2008
According to reports out of Japan Bandai Namco have set Tekken 6 for release in Japan in December 2008. The game wasn't shown at E3, but given that Bandai Namco will want everyone to be concentrating on Soul Calibur IV which is due out in a week or so.
We have some pretty exciting Blu-Ray news today, much of which is only being confirmed via retailers at the moment, with confirmation from movie studios due in the coming weeks. Take this with a grain of salt;
A 2-disc version of Casino Royale is coming from Sony Pictures. We believe the release will be the same transfer as last years release, but with a host of new extras. No doubt being released to tie into the new movie and other James Bond Blu-Ray releases. Due out on October 22nd.
Sony Pictures will be releasing Ghostbusters 1 & 2 Double Pack on Blu-Ray on October 22nd, quite possibly to tie into the upcoming video game release which still awaits a release date.
Paramount are apparently preparing Iron Man for release on Blu-Ray on October 9th.
October 9th will also see the release of a 2-disc for Transformers on Blu-Ray through Paramount.
Not confirmed, and not on any release schedules or at retailers, we have it on good authority that Heroes Season 1 and Heroes Season 2 will be released on Blu-Ray this October. These would be the first Blu-Ray releases from Universal in Australia.
Finally Fox will apparently be releasing the Direct-to-DVD/Blu-Ray movie Futurama - Bender's Big Game on Blu-Ray on December 10th. You can bite my shiny metal ass if this isn't the best thing on Blu-Ray this Christmas!
PS3 Preview Far Cry 2 is one of those games that everyone has their eyes on. The original game was one of the best FPS's for some time, and this sequel, with a very different setting looks very impressive. In fact we're betting this will be a must-have.
July 23, 2008
2K Games has confirmed that Bioshock will look identical on the PS3 as the game does on the XBox 360. Rumours from EGM that the PS3 version would have visual improvements have been squished to little bits it seems.
In a final bit of news today a group of fat bitches, oh, I mean women are complaining about Sony's newly announced game Fat Princess. These fat bitches, ermm, women (sorry we forgot) aren't happy about the idea of feeding a thin princess and making her fat. Perhaps the fat bit-, err women, want a Jenny Craig game instead. Oh, btw you didn't see me complaining about Fat Bastard in Austin Powers did you?!
PS3 Preview Pure is a game that racing fans will certainly want to check out. When it comes to offroad racing games there are a few on the market already, but Pure looks like something very exciting with stunning visuals. With a release only months away we've taken some time out to check out the game.
PSP Preview Super Stardust Portable is a game we are absolutely dying to get our hands on. Super Stardust HD is one of the best games on the PS3, and now Sony are bringing the series to the PS3. Impressive visuals and great gameplay should ensure this is a great release, whenever that is.
July 22, 2008
SCE CEO Kaz Hirai has mentioned that he believes the PS3 could potentially sell 150 million units, and thereby surpass the PS2's sales of 140 million units. For comparisons sake the first Playstation has sold around 102 million units.
Looking forward to Bioshock on the PS3? Well you're not alone and now the developers have announced details of the Trophies which will be unlocked by playing the game. From fairly easy to ridiculously hard you can read about them here on the official Playstation Blog.
Accoridng to unconfirmed reports a demo for Madden NFL 09 will be put on the (we assume American) Playstation Store on August 1st.
PS3 Preview Bioshock has been available on the XBox 360 and PC for around a year now and was released to much critical acclaim, and managed to sell almost 2 million units to date. Thanks to a deal with Microsoft PS3 owners have had to wait, but there are several new, and exciting, features in this version. Check out our preview now.
PS2 Preview Yakuza 2 is one of those games that deserves a lot more attention then it will likley receive. So the PS2 is last generation? So what. When games are developed as well as Sega's Yakuza series it doesn't matter. This game, due out around late September, looks spectacular. We take a look at what to expect.
July 21, 2008
As many of you would know Konami released an add-on pack for Metal Gear Solid 4, but there was a problem. Much like the Metal Gear Solid 4 Online Beta Konami's hamsters forgot to actually turn the crank on their servers and it all came to a grinding halt. People paying for the downloadable pack aren't receiving it, others can't play it online. Survival battles were cancelled, and the store was closed to entire IP address ranges to try and control demand. Konami are currently looking at buying a new Pentium 75 computer to double their server capacity - well, not really, but they better be doing something!
PS3 Preview Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway was originally due for release in early 2007 however after delays of almost two years developers Gearbox have crafted a much improved title with improved visuals, gameplay and, well, everything. It looks great and we've updated our preview.
July 20, 2008
While the E3 show is over for another year, there hasn't really been a lot of big news over the weekend. The biggest news though is that from Sony Japan with confirmation that the Playstation Video Store will be released in that territory in September. Back luck for Europe and Australia though, still 2009 for us plebs...
Electronic Arts has confirmed that a new Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic MMORPG is in development. The game, due in 2009 is being developed by Bioware.
Blu-Ray Review Jumper is the latest movie starring Hayden "Anakin" Christiensen. Based upon a novel this sci-fi action movie took a truckload of money at the box office, and this Blu-Ray disc from Fox looks and sounds terrific. Shame about the movie though...
July 18, 2008
We're back to normal service now, but the PS3 news keeps coming in, and most of it isn't too pleasant. Following the news that no one outside America can get to the movie download service, and it won't be released in Europe until 2009 comes some more rather disappointing news. Let's get into it...
Firstly Play TV has been dated for the UK as September 10th, with most other European territories to follow by December. Australia and New Zealand though won't be seeing the TV recording service until January or February 2009! The somewhat good news though is that Firmware 2.41 allows the system to record TV while still allowing you to play games.
Kazunori Yamauchi has mentioned to Joystiq that Gran Turismo 5 won't, in all liklihood be released until 2010 at the earliest. The company is still focusing efforts on developing Gran Turismo 5: Prologue.
Excited about Playstation Home? So are we, but in another disappointment public spaces and events (such as bowling) in the service will be locked by territory. Details remain somewhat hazy but it may mean no inter-continental rooms to enter - no doubt this is to keep in-Home advertising region specific.
Wondering where Wipeout HD is? Well according to David Reeves "There is a specific technical problem with WipEout that we have to solve. I can;t go into details but it is a really, really tricky technical problem that no region has been able to solve at the moment. I think it will come out before the end of the year but it is something that was just very difficult to get to grips with." I must say that is some technical problem to see a six month delay!
July 15, 2008
E3 2008 Conference News E3 2008 Coverage is here, now, on Futuregamez.net. This really is like Christmas for gamers. The E3 Show may only be a shadow of what it used to be, but there are still plenty of big announcements and we have a heap of previews and news for you. Don't miss this coverage of the biggest event on the gaming calendar.
PS3 Review Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots isn't just a game, it's an event in the video game calendar. Konami's biggest game in years is now available in stores, but rather then rush a review we've played through the game more then once, and hit multi-player. What did we think...
July 14, 2008
Sony have confirmed that Firmware 4.05 will be released soon for the PSP. There isn't a lot big to report yet, but the "other features" could have something exciting we guess. Here's the statement:
I wanted to give a quick heads up to everyone that a new PSP firmware update, v4.05, will be released soon. We know that more and more of you are listening to music on your PSP, and this update will add new visualizers for music playback, among other features. Enjoy!
Worried about the lack of updates and reviews on the site over the last week. Don't be. We're putting the finishing touches on our pretty big review of a certain Konami game released recently, but also some pretty nice articles and previews related to the E3 show which kicks off very soon. Stay tuned as we pump out the news and previews from that event.
July 12, 2008
With E3 only days away now we thought we'd make some predictions of what we may be seeing announced. Sony are certainly taking a strong position in the market, and these predictions, should they come true, can only help solidify Sony's standing:
1. Sony will finally reveal (again) another expected release date for Playstation Home.
2. Playstation 2 finally, officially, gets a price cut from $US129.99 to $US99.99. This price cut translates to a cut from $AU199.99 to $AU149.95 here in Australia.
4. Sony's video service will be announced for release in America immediately, or almost immediately, and in Europe for late in 2008. Strangely there is a lack of big companies signed on, except Sony Pictures of course and perhaps MGM and Fox!
6. Could Sony be so bold as to counteract the iPhone's pandemonium by finally confirming the long standing PSP Phone rumour? It's a long shot, but possible.
7. God of War will be shown albeit in video form with a loose 2009 date attached.
8. Square-Enix delight and disappoint with a new trailer, but no playable demonstration of Final Fantasy XIII.
9. We won't see a PSP2 as such, but perhaps a revised PSP with brighter screen, longer battery life and even in-built memory.
10. The PS3 is in for some more changes. Perhaps the return of Backwards Compatability is on the cards, as is a return for more USB ports (and hopefully some on the back). A bigger Hard Drive wouldn't go astray either.
July 11, 2008
Been wondering about the install size for Soul Calibur IV? It has now been confirmed that the game will install 2.85GB of data (much less the the incorrect rumours of 6.7GB a few weeks ago). Apparently though the European version at least will make this an optional install.
Burnout Paradise fans will be pleased to hear that the "Cagney" update has gone live. Weighing in at 385MB this update adds a tonne of new features including 3 new Online Game Modes (Stunt Run, Road Rage, Marked Man), 70 new online time trials, new vehicles, improvements to Ranked Racing, 1080i support, improved Standard Def rendering, and Custom Soundtracks. There's a host of other changes too. The price? It's free!
July 10, 2008
2K Games have just sent through their latest release schedule and the big news is that BioShock is now targeting a release date of October 24 here in Australia.
The Playstation Store has been updated tonight and there are two items worth checking out. The first is a demo for Top Spin 3. The second, for $15.95, is EchoChrome. Besides that there's only a couple of videos and trailers. No word yet on what will appear on the US Store tomorrow for American, or sneaky, PS3 owners.
Wow! Talk about coming out with some big guns. Walt Disney Studios have just updated their Blu-Ray release schedules and you better set October aside for some spending. Youngsters will be thrilled to hear that High School Musical and High School Musical 2 are set for release on October 15. Animation fans will be thrilled to see The Nightmare Before Christmas (Oct 22) and Sleeping Beauty Platinum Edition on October 22. For adults, and the most excting thing for me, expect to see Kill Bill Vol. 1 and Kill Bill Vol. 2 both released on October 22 and a week later expect to see Lost: Season 4 hit Blu-Ray as well.
PSP Review Everybody's Golf 2 is the second golf game from Clap Hanz on the PSP. With several solid single player modes, and some great multi-player modes all for under $AU50 this is an essential purchase for golf fans. If you're still not sure make sure you check out our review now...
July 9, 2008
PS3 Preview Madden NFL 09 is a game which will sell in moderate numbers here in Australia despite a complete lack of the sport in the country. Regarded as a benchmark for sports games, Madden NFL games haven't been well received on PS3 due to sub-par ports of the 360 versions. Madden NFL 09 is set to change that!
July 8, 2008
Boot up your PS3 tonight and you will be able to download Firmware 2.41 for your PS3. This is the fixed version of the Firmware released briefly last week before being pulled. The only downside, those with Firmware 2.40 will also have to re-download the 120MB file. Now, where's all those patches to enable trophies in some more games? Eric Lempel had the following to say on the officia Blog:
We want to extend our apologies to the PlayStation community for any inconvenience. Now we’ll be looking forward to seeing everyone online and racking up those trophies!
Been waiting for Fatal Inertia EX on the Playstation Store? Well European, and hopefully Australian, gamers won't have to wait too much longer with Koei confirming the game will be released on July 15th. Strangely that means we'll be seeing the game on a Tuesday, a couple of days earlier then the normal Playstation Store update. Does that mean we're going to see some E3 styled updates.
PSP Review Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII is a prequel to one of the most loved RPG's of all time and as a result there were high expectations for this game to bring back much of the magic of that PSOne game. We're glad to report that for the most part Square-Enix have succeeded in meeting those expectations.
July 7, 2008
Wondering what is happening with Firmware 2.40? Want to know when it will be re-released? So do we. As yet there still hasn't been any further word from Sony. Stay tuned, as soon as we hear something we'll pass it on. Update: Well C&VG has just updated their site with unconfirmed news that Firmware 2.41 will be released "mid-week". This updated firmware will fix issues which some users had following updates to Firmware 2.40.
PS3 Review MX Vs ATV Untamed is sure to get the heart racing. In fact, if you like your racing games then chances are you may have checked this game out already. Michael has taken this for a spin and quite enjoyed what he saw. Here's his full review.
July 6, 2008
Blu-Ray Review Alvin & the Chipmunks really was a surprise hit at the box office. Fans of the music and cartoons should enjoy this movie although it certainly isn't a new high point in cinema. Fox have now released it on Blu-Ray and we give you our thoughts.
July 5, 2008
Chalk this up as a rumour but according to this post on the Gamespot forums Fallout 3 has been Refused Classification in Australian meaning it can't be sold here. The reason, the use of Morphine in the game. As yet there is nothing on the OFLC (Office of Film and Literature Censorship, ermm, I mean Classification) site about the rating, and we haven't heard back from distributer Red Ant. Still, it's a dark day if it turns out to be true.
On a somewhat brighter note the previously Refused Classification game Dark Sector has now been slapped with an MA15+ rating. We believe that the game has been censored for release here. What exactly remains unknown but we have asked AFA Interactive (the distrubters) for comment.
Speaking of Dark Sector it has now been confirmed that the developers of that game, Digital Extremes, are working on the port of Bioshock for, and with, 2K Games. Bioshock is due out around October this year.
We're not done with the shitty OFLC news yet though. The OFLC has also Refused Classification for Shellshock 2: Blood Trails the upcoming Eidos action title. This new though has been confirmed with the data on the OFLC's website (which you can view here).
Take Two and Rockstar Games have confirmed that Midnight Club: Los Angeles has been delayed. While it was due on September 12, the game will now be released in America on October 7, and in Europe and Australia on October 10.
Rockstar Games has confirmed that Midnight Club: LA Remix is in development and will be released on the same day as the PS3 titles - that being October 7 for America, and October 10 for Europe and Australia.
PS2 Review Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters is an interesting addition to the PS2 lineup. I guess, this late in the consoles life any titles are worth a look as the numbers thin out. The PSP version of this game has been out for some time, and there were hopes that this PS2 port would include some improvements. We let you know if this PS2 version is any good.
Infinity Ward has confirmed they will not be adding trophy support to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. We must remind people that while this is a disappointments, trophies aren't retroactive, so you would have to re-play the games to unlock them.
Well we hope you got Firmware 2.40 yesterday, or hopefully didn't! Sony has pulled the firmware update off their servers for unknown reasons, although speculation is rife that it is due to some gamers experience freezing since installing the update. We know of a couple of people that have had the update fail on their systems with constant lockups, but we experience no issues here at Futuregamez.net. At the moment Sony have reverted back to Firmware 2.36 on their site, and System Update. We are awaiting a repsonse from Sony...
Update: Patrick Seybold Director, Corporate Communications & Social Media has updated the Playstation Blog with an official comment about Firmware 2.40, although there's not much new really. Read on...
As has been reported on many gaming blogs and websites, we have temporarily taken Firmware v2.40 offline. We’ve received a limited number of calls from consumers experiencing an issue with installing the system software update on their PS3. While our consumer services department has seen a low volume of calls on this topic, we are committed to providing the PS3 community with XMB access features delivered in the v2.40 update. We are working diligently to isolate the problem for those few consumers and to identify a solution before we put the firmware back up.
July 2, 2008
As expected Firmware 2.40 was released today. It certainly does include everything detailed in the videos we posted the other day with the first game to include trophies being the brilliant Super Stardust HD. The patch to enable the trophies in this game weighs in at a pretty hefty 255MB, but the game is oh so worth it. Trophies are awarded for completing the various levels, surviving for certain amounts of time, amassing a certain number of bombs and so on.
Sony has confirmed that each episode in the download only game Siren: Blood Curse will be approximately 600MB each. As yet exact dates and pricing for the game has not been announced.
July 1, 2008
Yesterday we showed you part one of Eric Lempel's video demonstrating Firmware 2.40, and today we have Part 2 where the Trophies are shown in operation. Excitingly, it has now been confirmed that the Firmware 2.40 will be released on July 2nd - that's tomorrow.
Sony has today confirmed that the first retail (Blu-Ray) based game to support Trophies will be Buzz! Quiz TV which is due out on July 3rd.
Paramount have made a major DVD announcement yesterday, that being the re-release of The Godfather Trilogy spread across 5 DVD's. The movies have all be remastered to improve the image quality, and there are a tonne of extras. How is this applicable to us. Well after asking where the Blu-Ray version was on the announcement Paramount Australia has confirmed that the Blu-Ray version will be released here on October 30th. We expect the same extras as the DVD set (hopefully in HD, but still TBC) but the video will naturally be presented in 1080p, and we expect (again TBC) that the disc will include HD audio of some kind.
That's not all though. Paramount also dropped another great one by confirming that Indiana Jones will also be released on Blu-Ray on the same date as The Godfather - October 30. As yet tech specs and special features have not been confirmed, but it's exciting news nontheless.
PS3 Review Civilization Revolution is a game we have been quite desperate to get our hands on here at Futuregamez.net. The PC titles in the series are games which can take up days of your life, if not weeks, in a single game. This is the first time the series has hit consoles and Firaxis have spent considerable time making sure this game is every bit as engrossing as the PC originals.
