October 31, 2007
Konami has confirmed that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will not be released in March (as per Atari's release schedule) but will be pushed back into Q'2 2008 (April - JUne). Extra time is required to make the game as polished as possible prior to release.
Sony America has apparently confirmed that due to licensing issues SingStar on the PS3 will not be released this year, but has been pushed into early 2008. Hopefully the EUropean/Australian version of the game won't suffer this delay as well, but given the continuous delays, and still lack of appearance on Sony's schedules we're not too hopeful.
The Golden Compass is one of the potential blockbuster movies this year and Sega are bring us the videogame version. This game could be a solid movie tie-in when it hits the shelves around the same time as the movie this December.
October 30, 2007
Spider-man Trilogy is certainly one of the biggest Blu-Ray releases this year and is sure to be a hot seller this Christmas. We've already taken a look at Spider-man 3 on Blu-Ray and now we're looking at the entire box set. Do the first two movies also stack up well? Of course they do...
October 29, 2007
Well Guitar Hero III is due out on November 7th (and we've been blasting our way through the game to get our review ready in the next couple of days) and Activision have confirmed that the stand along wireless controller will also be available for sale on November 14th for $AU79.95. If there's one thing better then the game on it's own, it's playing it with a mate.
2K Australia has confirmed that NBA 2K8 will be released in Australia on November 23rd.
2K Australia has confirmed that NBA 2K8 will be released on the PS2 in Australia on November 23rd.
Colin McRae Dirt was a review done with a heavy heart giving the recent passing of the racing legend. iCodemasters' long running rally series has been the pinnacle of the rally genre, and this latest game, which is the first on the PS3, is a tremendous game. This is a must-have racing game.
October 28, 2007

October 26, 2007
Electronic Arts has announced that Burnout Paradise will be released to American stores on January 22, 2008. As yet there is no date for the game in Australia, but we expect it to be pretty close to the US date. A demo will be released on the Playstation Store sometime in December.
Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin's Creed has gone gold and will be released around the world in November as expected. This is certain to be one of the biggest titles this Christmas and all indications point to it also being one of the best. Australia will see the game hit shelves on November 15.
Well it's been quite a week for releases on the Playstation Store. While American's got next to nothing European and Australian gamers got a swag of goodies. First up are demos for Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (then again the game is out in America already!) and Tony Hawk Proving Ground. Then we have the games to buy which are very PSEye focused. EyeCreate, the photo and video software is out and is free, Aqua Vita, Operation Creature Feature, and Trials of Topoq can also use the camera. PixelJunk Racers is also available on the store for a few dollars. There are also a couple of videos to check out too.
October 25, 2007
Our spies have been working overtime. You know how Threespeech has listed SingStar on PS3 for release in December with an exact date TBC. Well we can go one better. Pencil in December 13th. Apparently it's the final date... apparently.
Conan is the latest PS3 title from THQ and developers Nihilistic (remember them from the canned Starcraft Ghost?). While Arnold Schwarzenegger won't be found in this game we were still extremely keen to check it out. It may not be perfect, but it still provides a bloody good time.
October 24, 2007
One of the biggest upcoming games for the PS3 this Christmas is Naughty Dog's Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. The good news is that the game has gone gold and will ship in America in late November.
Polyphony Digital has announced that they have signed a deal with BBC Worldwide to allow gamers to watch up to 40 episodes of Top Gear through the Gran Turismo TV channel which will launch next year. Not only that but Polyphony Digital now has the rights to include the test track used on Top Gear within Gran Turismo 5. At this stage there is no release date for the game, although July 2008 has been mentioned for Japan.
Wondering what is happening to SingStar on the PS3? Well you're not alone. The title has been hitting constant delays and problems - it was originally slated for release around the PS3's launch early this year. Now ThreeSpeech has the title listed as a TBC December release. Retailers still have the game listed for November 15, however we expect that to change very soon. You know what, we're not going to be surprised if the title gets pushed back into 2008, much like Gran Turismo 5 Prologue!
Reviewers in America who have received code for Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction have noticed that the disc includes Firmware 1.94 with the big new feature being support for the rumble in the Dual Shock 3. That controller is due out in Japan on November 11, but American gamers will have to wait until Q'2 2008.
Atari Australia have today confirm two more titles for release on the PS2 here in the coming months. Asterix at the Olympics will be released on November 16 this year while Alvin & the Chipmonks will be released in January 2008.
Atari Australia has confirmed that Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles has been pushed back from this week to February 2008 for unknown reasons.
Stuntman: Ignition is a game which has one of the most unique gameplay experiences we've encountered as you act as a movie stuntman. After a 5 year wait for the sequel to the hit PS2 game it is finally here, and it's on next-gen systems too! We check out THQ's latest title.
Roadshow has updated us with some Blu-Ray news of late. Firstly, and as has been known for some time, the BBC's Planet Earth will ship as a 5 disc set on December 5 for $AU99.95. January 11, 2008 will see the release of Hairspray - The Shake And Shimmy Edition (2 Disc Set) while the the company has also confirmed that Rush Hour 3 will be released on Blu-Ray early next year.
October 23, 2007
Electronic Arts has confirmed that Army of Two, their upcoming action title, has been pushed back until early 2008. Electronic Arts has confirmed they need a little more time to polish the game. Given the glut of titles expected in November this is probably not a bad outcome anyway.
THQ has confirmed that the PS3 version of Destroy All Humans! and Frontlines: Fuel of War will not be released until their fiscal 2009 - which in our terms means after March 2008.
Well we bought you the news of the Warhawk 1.1 patch yesterday, and we now have details of 1.2 patch which should be out by years end. Here's a detailed list of what patch v1.2 includes (and its not just bug fixes, but a host of new features too!):

Buzz! The Hollywood Quiz is actually the fifth release in Sony's trivia series on the Playstation 2 and, given the topic, is probably one which will appeal to a majority of gamers. We give you the low down on the latest trivia title from Sony in our review...
October 22, 2007
Capcom has confirmed that their highly anticipated Devil May Cry 4 will be released worldwide in February 2008.
Sony has confirmed that patch 1.1 for Warhawk will be available by the end of the month and will fix some issues with servers not allowing connections, or tracking stats correctly. Clan sizes will also be increased from 32 to 64 players. Expect that patch, the first of two this year, to be released soon.
Thir13en Ghosts is a B-Grade horror movie without a doubt, but we actually enjoyed the movie quite a bit. This Blu-Ray transfer from Sony Pictures has turned out very well with a great video and audio quality and a couple of extras thrown in for good measure. Here's our review of Sony's latest release.
October 20, 2007
Shadow Hearts: From the New World is the latest in Aruze Corp's long running RPG series. Michael has played the game and gives us his full review. In short, he likes, but we suggest you spend a few moments to check out the review.
October 18, 2007
Sony America's Jack Tretton has finally confirmed that the 40GB Playstation 3 will go on sale in that territory on November 2 for $US399. The system, which was launched in Europe and Australia recently, has seen sales jump by a massive 178% in those territories. Sony America has also announced that effective today the 80GB PS3 will drop in price from $US599 to $US499.
Capcom has announced that Street Fighter IV is currently in development. We expect the game to eventually hit the PS3, but don't expect a date for a while yet.
Capcom has also announced that Lost Planet is being ported to the PS3 with a release scheduled for Q'1 2008. The game will include all the downloadable content that was released for the XBox 360 and PC versions.
According to reports Capcom has pushed the release date for Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix from late 2007 into early 2008. The downloadable game is one of the most wanted for the Playstation Store. No word on an exact date or price yet.
Remember that little fiasco a couple of months ago where Paramount and Dreamworks announced they were no longer supporting Blu-Ray but rather only HD-DVD due to superior technology? Well this month sees the release of Transformers on HD-DVD, a title which is certainly one of the most wanted movies to appear on a HD format. With the disc about to hit stores something strange has happened, there is very limited HD audio support. In fact it only includes Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 (1.5Mbps) and no Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio or PCM options. Kind of makes the decision to drop support of the 'inferior' Blu-Ray format (which includes an additional 20GB space on each disc!) look rather silly now doesn't it. Michael Bay are you happy with this 'inferior' version for the home user? We suspect that in private you still might be a little pissed off... as we are!
Kane & Lynch: Dead Men promises to be one of the biggest, hardest, most kick-ass action games this year. Indeed teh developers, Io Interactive, have a great track history with action games. We give you plenty of details and screenshots to enjoy prior to the December release.

OFLC BANS ANOTHER GAME! You read it right. This time Australia's Office of Film and Literature Classifaction has slapped a Refused Classification onto Soldier of Fortune Payback - the details of which you can see at this link. The game was due out through Activision in early 2008 but with the RC rating can not be sold in stores. As yet Activision have not been available for comment or confirmation if they will either appeal or submit a modified version for classification. Thanks to Mike for the news tip.
Are We Done Yet? sees part time actor part time rapper Ice Cube and the rest of the cast return for the sequel to the surprise hit Are We There Yet? We've taken a look at the Blu-Ray disc and sat through the movie. Can a great transfer save this disc?
October 16, 2007
Capcom, and as has appeared on Gamespot, have announced that they are remaking Bionic Commando for the Playstation 3, XBox 360 and PC. We suspect that this is the 'surprise' announcement due tomorrow morning although that could still be something else. As yet the 'remake' of the 1988 game doesn't have a release date, and we have to say that by remake we assume they mean totally new game - something 20 years old wouldn't sit too well as as full priced game today... More news as it breaks.
Warhawk was plagued with problems during development but is out now and has shaped up as one of the best online titles on the Playstation 3 to date. Interestingly the title is available in stores, or on the Playstation Store. Here's our full review.
October 15, 2007
Keep you eyes peeled. In a little over a day Capcom are set to make a big announcement. What it is nobody knows. Resident Evil 5 as a PS3 exclusive? Official confirmation of Dead Rising 2? Release date for Devil May Cry 4? A totally new IP for the Playstation 3? Stay tuned...

October 14, 2007
Well it appears that those waiting for The Orange Box on the PS3 are going to be in for a bit more of a wait. GamesWarehouse has just shifted the relesae date for the title from November 22 to January 22. The pack, which includes Half-Life 2, Episode 1, Episode 2, Team Fortress 2 and Portal. The title has just been released on PC and XBox 360 and the delay is quite disappointing given the impressive reviews the pack has been receiving. Expect confirmation from Electronic Arts soon.
Talk about leaving it to the last minute! Activision have today officially announced Soldier of Fortune Payback will be released on the Playstation 3. While retailers had indicated a November release the press release from Activision confirms an early 2008 release.
Beowulf: The Game is going to have a lot to live up to with the upcoming Robert Zemeckis movie looking so sensational. This game tie-in from Ubisoft should also provide plenty of entertainment as it goes well beyong the events of the movie. We take a look at what's in store for us...
October 13, 2007
According to rumours starting to do the rounds Sony will be updating the Firmware on the Playstation 3 in coming weeks. It's almost mandatory though as the system will have to support BD profile 1.1 after October 31. Rumours are that the update, which would allow video commentaries on Blu-Ray discs among other things, would be released on October 30. Sony are still remaining quiet on the issue.
Electronic Arts has shocked the game industry on Friday by announcing that they have purchased VG Holding Corp which is the parent company of both Bioware (Mass Effect) and Pandemic Studios (Full Spectrum Warrior, Star Wars Battlefront and Mercenaries 2: World in Flames) for a reported $US620 million dollars.
October 11, 2007
Well today is the day. Sony have just unleashed the 40GB Playstation 3 in Australia for $AU699. The console, as we have discussed, loses backwards compatibility with PS2 games, has a smaller HDD (usually 60GB), no memory card slot and only 2 x USB ports. Still if you're not worried about backwards compatibility, and just want to get into next-gen gaming or Blu-Ray movie watching then this is a cracker of a system. They're shifting pretty fast too so be quick.
According to this article on GamesIndustry.biz Sony pay £16 million ($US32 million) for Evolution Studios. In our book that's quite a bargain for the Motorstorm develop. In comparison Microsoft paid a reported $US377 million for Rare, a deal which hasn't really paid off with big game titles. Let's hope Sony fare a little better - and they are certain to with Evolution currently working on Motorstorm 2 for the Playstation 3.
So this may piss a few people off, and we can't say we're too happy either, but Capcom has confirmed that Monster Hunter 3 will be released on the Nintendo Wii, and not the Playstation 3 due to high development costs. Sigh...
I went and saw Resident Evil: Extinction tonight and it was a fairly decent continuation of the franchise. If you liked the first two movies, you'll enjoy this one. One of the movies previewed before the feature was Hitman. It looked pretty good, with some potential - that was until a few minutes ago when I got home and read this article. Apparently when Hitman was shown to the movie studio (Fox) after the first edit they were none too pleased with the level of voilence. As the article states the movie 'included a number of head shots and extreme gore moments that would have guaranteed the film a hard R rating'. In fact, rumours are that the studio has not only removed director Xavier Gens but also much of the gore from the movie. If it turns out that Fox have dumbed this down then I will be most disappointed - in fact I'll refuse to see it until the 'lets fuck you over for even more money' unedited Blu-Ray release comes out. Why would you take a hard-assed assassination game franchise targeted at older audiences and make the movie for the Wiggles fans? Does anyone remember the backlash against AVP due to the lack of gore and violence? They've certainly changed their tone for the kick-ass looking second movie that's for sure.
WWE Smackdown Vs Raw 2008 is certain to generate a lot of interest. THQ's wrestling series has a massive following and this years version will be the first on the Playstation 3. We've got many of the details and screenshots in our preview.
October 10, 2007
Sony Japan has announced that the Dual Shock 3 controller will go on sale in Japan on November 11 for 5,500 yen - about 500 yen more then the current Sixaxis controller. For all intents and purposes the new controller is the same as the Sixaxis, but incorporates the rumble technology found in the Dual Shock 2. We were lucky enough to get our pre-order in at a Japanese retailer before they were rather quickly shut down due to the quantity of orders and expected limited supply.
Epic Games have confirmed that while there will be 3 level demo for Unreal Tournament III on the PC there will not be a demo for Playstation 3 as they continue to finish development on the platform.
Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 is a game which is going to have millions of fans teh world over. Indeed what is certainly the best soccer franchise of all time is heading to the PS3 and it looks like Konami have developed another hit title. Here's an early look at the early November release.
October 9, 2007
Sony Australia has confirmed that unlike other territories the 60GB PS3 will not get a price drop here. It is also unclear if this model will continue after the 40GB system is released on October 11th. We certainly hope so as the 40GB system lacks backwards compatibility with PS2 titles!
Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command is a game that will appeal to a lot more people then you might think. If you're into Warhammer 40,000 then this is for you. If you're into turn based strategy games then this is for you. We give you some details of this great looking PSP game due out later this year.
October 8, 2007
In another blow for Rockstar the BBFC has yet again refused to pass Manhunt 2 meaning it still can not go on sale in the UK. The ESRB in America recently passed the game with an M rating and will go on sale there soon.
Unfortunately it looks like Time Crisis 4 won't be out in time for Christmas. While Sony are yet to confirm, GamesWarehouse now has the title listed for release on January 30 which fits in with the late December Japanese release.
Buzz! The Hollywood Quiz sees a continuation of Sony's massive trivia franchise on the Playstation 2. Indeed the trivia based games have a large following and this latest release will focus on Hollywood for the questions - including video clips and images. Here's a preview...
SingStar R&B is yet another title in Sony's series. You know, if Sony keep pumping out the SingStar packs so rapidly they're going to run out of songs to include! Here's a preview of the eleventh release in the hit PS2 karaoke series.
October 7, 2007
Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed is one of the certain hits this Christmas on the Playstation 3. The size and scope of the game, and the open-ended world, though means that there won't be a demo of the game - it simply isn't feasible according to producer Jade Raymond.
So that's the bad demo news, but there is some good too. Conan from THQ will see a demo hit the Playstation Store next week in America (and hopefully Europe) while Naughty Dog have confirmed there will be a demo of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune prior to release which is set for December 7 in Europe (and we believe December 15 in Australia).
Speaking of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune Naughty Dog has confirmed the game will run at a maximum resolution of 1080i, and will run at 30fps.
While there is no confirmation of which game is being worked on for sure, Team Ico have confirmed they are working on a sequel to one of their hit games. PS2 owners would be well aware that the company has developed two hit games on that system - ICO and Shadow of the Colossus - a sequel to either would be most welcome.
October 6, 2007
Well the rumour we mentioned a couple of days ago about the $AU699 40GB PS3 has been confirmed by Sony, but there is one omission we didn't pick up on the other day. The system will have no backwards compatibility with older PS2 (and we guess PSOne) games. Here's the full press release...
New PLAYSTATION 3 Model to Take Holiday Season by Storm
Aggressively priced hardware and a terrific software line-up make for an unbeatable combination New 40GB PS3 at $699
SYDNEY, 6 October 2007 – Sony Computer Entertainment Australia (SCE Aust.) today announced details of its exciting new PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) model that will launch throughout Australia on 11th October 2007 at the highly attractive price of $699.95 RRP.
Providing an incredibly appealing entry point to the world of High Definition gaming and entertainment for the holiday season, the new PS3 brings the next generation of interactive home entertainment to homes across Australia.
Along with an ever expanding line-up of PS3 titles (a total of 65 titles tracking across all genres by Christmas), the new PS3 is equipped with a 40GB HDD and includes all the features central to the High Definition entertainment experience; true next generation gameplay, stunning High Definition Blu-ray Disc™ movies, SIXAXIS™ wireless controller, Wi-Fi and HDMI connectivity, all powered by the Cell Broadband Engine™, the digital heart of PS3.
As with the 60GB PS3, the new PS3 features upgradeable firmware allowing new features and functionality to be added to the system as time progresses. A recent firmware update, for example, enabled PS3 to upscale DVD’s played on the system to full 1080P High Definition.
The introduction of the new PS3 has been determined following user feedback from thousands of existing PS3 owners as well as research into future potential PS3 owners. The new model features two USB 2.0 ports rather than four and no longer includes the multi memory card port.
The new model is no longer backwards compatible with PlayStation 2 titles, reflecting both the reduced emphasis placed on this feature amongst later purchasers of PS3, as well as the availability of a more extensive line-up of PS3 specific titles (a total of 65 titles across all genres by Christmas).
"The introduction of the new PS3 has been the result of extensive research into the entertainment needs and preferences of the next generation of PS3 owners," said Michael Ephraim, Managing Director SCE Aust. and New Zealand. "It has allowed us to deliver an extremely advanced, yet incredibly affordable High Definition gaming and entertainment system, configured to the needs of the next generation of PS3 owners. PS3 has always been the device of choice for the discerning gamer and entertainment seeker, the new PS3 along with our extensive list of new and exclusive game franchises makes it, more than ever, the perfect High Definition entertainment system."

The AU/EU Playstation Store has been updated today with a demo of EA's Skate, Clive Barker's Jericho, Stuntman: Ignition and Bladestorm: The Hundred Years War. There's also a couple of videos and wallpapers.
Spider-man 3 was one of the biggest box office draws this year and it's appearance on Blu-Ray is most welcome and sure to be a massive boost to the Blu-Ray format in its battle against HD-DVD. This disc includes a tonne of extras, but more importantly some stunning visuals and audio. Here's our review of this 'must have' Blu-Ray disc.
October 4, 2007

Insomniac Games has confirmed that Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction went Beta on September 16 and should hit its November release date. The developers have about 4 weeks of focus testing and bug removal remaining.
October 3, 2007
No sooner did we bring you the news of release date changes for Midway's PS3 title and then we hear of delays. In particular Unreal Tournament III has been pushed back into Q'1 2008 according to Midway however Epic's Mark Rein has stated on the official forums that "our goal is still to get the PS3 version of UT3 in stores by the end of 2007".
That wasn't all the bad news from Midway either with confirmation that the European version of their highly anticipated shooter Blacksite: Area-51 being pushed back into Q'1 2008 as well. It seems Americans will still see this game in 2007.
SWAT is one of the biggest series' on the PC. Sierra know they're onto a winner but the announcement that the series was heading to PSP turned a few heads. We've spent some time with the game and give you our early impressions in this preview.
October 2, 2007
Well take this one with a big grain of salt but I have today had two sources indicate that Sony will be launching a 40GB PS3 in Australia next week for $AU699. This is quite a bit cheaper then the current system which sells for $AU999 with a 60GB HDD but the new version will apparently have no Memory Card slot, and presumably no games - although that is still TBC. Sony are staying mum on the announcement but in a ring around today of several Electronics Boutiques, Targets and Big W's there are no 60GB models remaining in stock - presumably they are being run out for the new model. Expect an announcement - if true - possibly on October 12.
Red Ant have announced some release date changes for their upcoming PS3 titles. Firstly Blacksite: Area-51 has been shifted from October to November 15. John Woo's Stranglehold has been bumped from October to November 22 while the big one (if it could be bigger) Unreal Tournament III has been scheduled for release on November 22. Start saving, each of these titles look like being worth buying.
Keep an eye on the Playstation Store this week as Koei should be releasing a demo for Bladestorm: The Hundred Years War. The demo was released on the Japanese store some time ago, but due to the amount of text was pretty much indecipherable to those without Japanese reading skills.
SingStar Rock Ballads continues the increasing number of releases for the franchise on the PS2. If you've played previous games you know what to expect. 30 new tracks are included on this disc, but are they any good...
October 1, 2007
According to rumours Sony are set to announce something big on or around October 12. Given that all the pre-Christmas titles have been confirmed and the announcing titles for next year seems a bit pointless right now a lot of speculation is growing that it will be a $US100 price cut for the PS3. Time wil tell...
Heavenly Sword is the beginning of Sony's push to dominate Christmas 2007. We've had the game for a couple of days now, completed it twice and done up our review for your pleasure. This game really looks and plays superbly but are there any problems with the title? Here's the review.
