    PS3 News
There's been a moderately decent update to the Playstation Store this week. The main highlight is the demo for Sega Rally as well as a re-issue of the 'limited time' demo of Folklore. A couple of small addons have been put in the store for a few dollars each including a couple of vehicles for Motorstorm, a new mode for Ninja Gaiden Sigma and the New Goblin add-in for Spider-man 3. Videos for Feel Ski, Infamous and PES 2008 have been added as well as some wallpapers.

America wins again though in the Playstation Store updates with demos of Clive Barker’s Jericho and NBA 2K8, a movie trailer for Iron Man (which looks frickin sweet), and some game trailers.

Epic Games has announced that Unreal Tournament III will not have cross-platform online play. It may be possible at a later date, but the developers have confirmed they are concentrating on getting the main game finished before this feature will be looked into.

    PS3 News
Activision announced that Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees The Sex Pistols, who famously turned down the award, recently returned to the studio to re-record "Anarchy in the U.K." which will be included in Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock as a master track. A great coup. The one negative about the press release is that the game is now listed for a November 7 release - a delay of another week.

    Industry News
I guess the news doesn't get much bigger then this. Activision has announced that they have acquired U.K.-based video game developer Bizarre Creations. Bizarre Creations are the same developers behind Project Gotham Racing on the XBox systems and are finishing off The Club for Sega. The development studio will remain seperate from Activision and make their own development decisions, but in future will create multi-platform content. We won't see Project Gotham Racing on PS3 however as that IP is owned by Microsoft - but the team is working on a 'character' game and a 'racing' game for multiple platforms. This is a big score for Activision - and also a big score for Sony who will benefit from games from this talented team.

NBA 2K8 is a game which sports fans are sure to lap up. 2K Sports know how to make a great basketball game. This years title includes improved visuals, gameplay options, and game modes. This looks like a slam dunk!

    PS2 Review
Rogue Galaxy is potentially one of the last great RPG's on the PS2 this game is not one to overlook. Level-5, who also developed a certain title known as Dragon Quest VIII have developed yet another masterpiece for Sony's system. A must have... but if you need convincing check out our full review now.

    PS3 News
Sony's semi-official site Three Speech has listed some details about the upcoming Wipeout HD which will appear on the Playstation Store in future.

Featuring a selection of the best tracks from previous Wipeout games, the next addition to the series, Wipeout HD, will be available from the PlayStation Store and will run at 60 frames per second at full 1080p resolution. Other features include:
      * SIXAXIS support: use the motion sensitivity to control your anti gravity ship.
      * Tracks: a selection of the most popular tracks from previous Wipeout games.
      * Mag-Strips: the game will include the new feature from Wipeout Pulse (PSP) which temporarily causes your ship to be locked onto the track surface.
      * Race Modes: there will be seven race modes - Single Race, Tournament, Time Trial, Speed Lap, Zone Mode, Elimination and Head-2-Head.
      * Race Campaign: featuring a set of pre-defined race events for the player to battle through.

    Blu-Ray News
According to rumours the UK may be seeing a new PS3 release in the coming months. The system will apparently sell for £299 but won't be the current 60GB version, but rather a cut-down 40GB version. Sony are staying quiet on the matter, but it's not a surprise to see a potential price-cut.

    PS3 News
Just a quick reminder to all that Sony Pictures have last week released what could be the biggest Blu-Ray release this year. Spider-man 3 is available in a 2-disc Blu-Ray release, while that release is also available with versions of Spider-man and Spider-man 2 on Blu-Ray as a trilogy pack. We've got the discs here, and reviews will be online soon, but we can tell you they look pretty special indeed - far superior to the DVD as one would expect.

    XBox 360 News
If you're an XBox 360 owner with the Halo 3 Limited Edition pack on order (and there are a lot of you!) you may want to be aware that many people are reporting scratched discs. Why? Apparently they aren't even in a sleeve in the pack. Whoops! There have even been reports of the standard version not playing as well due to other issues... Whoops x 2!

    PS3 Preview
Unreal Tournament III is, without a doubt, one of the potential triple-A titles hitting the PS3 this year. The Unreal franchise has millions of fans the world over and Epic Games are going all out to make this a must-have title on Sony's system. If you don't like the Sixaxis controller you're in luck too... Why? Read on...

    PS3 News
It has been rumoured for some time now, and finally we have confirmation that Mercenaries 2: World in Flames, which is in development at Pandemic Studios, has been delayed until Q'1 2008. Apparently the game simply needs more time for polishing off.

According to an article on Kotaku SNK Playmore are developing King of Fighters XII for release on the Playstation 3 in early 2009. Expect more details next year.

Just a quick note to let you know we've updated our PS3 Preview & Release Schedule Page with plenty of minor date changes. If you want to know when your next PS3 game is coming out there's no better place to find out!

    PS2 News
Sega has confirmed that Yakuza 2 will be released in America next year. As yet there isn't any word on a European release but we certainly hope so. The original game, which we reviewed here, was a great title. A third game was announced for the PS3 at Tokyo Game Show last week and is set in feudal Japan rather then modern day.

    PS3 Preview
Bladestorm: The Hundred Years War is a game which will have millions of gamers the world over quite excited. Koei have built up a reputation for epic action games (with Dynasty Warriors being their biggest series), and their first PS3 release is no exception. We tell you what to expect from this potential hit due in late 2007 through THQ in Australia.

    PS3 News
Some specs have been released about Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. The game will run at a solid 60fps (which is double that of Insomniac's impressive Resistance: Fall of Man and will support 720p and 1080i resolution - apparently that will be the minimum for future games (and that could of course be Resistance 2). Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction will also take up a whopping 22GB on the Blu-Ray disc.

While Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is basically a demo of the full Gran Turismo 5 the game will not be free with the Japanese version set to cost Y4,980 for the Blu-Ray version or Y4,500 for the downloadable title when it is released on December 13th. We have also received word though that October 24th will see a demo of the game released! No word yet on a release date in America or Europe - although Sony have mentioned that the game would be out by Christmas in Europe as well.

    PS3 Preview
Condemned 2: Bloodshot isn't due to hit store shelves until 2008, but even at this early stage it's well worth a look. Developers Monolith (who also developed the PC commercial and critical hit F.E.A.R.) are putting the finishing touches on this game to be published by Sega. It looks hot - we have some screens and info.

    PS3 News
Gamers rejoyce as LocoRoco Cocoreccho has been released on the Playstation Store. The best news is that Australia seems to be getting the best deal in terms of pricing - the game only retails for $AU4.95 here! We suggest, given the American version is $US6.95 you snap it up quick unless it's a pricing error. It's a bit unique, a bit strange, but for the price of a Big Mac you can't go wrong. It's another pretty lean week for the Playstation Store in Europe and Australia with the other highlights being the release of PSOne games MediEvil and Syphon Filter.

American's get a wonderful demo of Sega Rally Revo on their Playstation Store as well as demos for Skate, Stuntman Ignition and NBA 08.

In news that probably won't surprise anyone Ubisoft has confirmed that their oft-delayed Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway won't make it out in time for Christmas. The game is now due out in 2008. Perhaps they've had a look at their own stunning Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 and realised they need to beat that stunning title!

With the news from Tokyo Game Show that Sony has purchased Evolutions Studios (and also BigBig Studios) comes the follow up news that shouldn't be a surprise to anyone - Motorstorm 2 is in development for the Playstation 3. The only detail that has been announced is that the game is targeted for release next year.

One of the biggest disappointments of the TGS was the news that Playstation Home - the online community service - has been delayed until Spring (Q'2) 2008. Phil Harrison has confirmed though that the open Beta will commence in November or December of this year.

    Dual Shock 3 Announcement
Sony has released a full list of games which will be compatible with the Playstation 3 Dual Shock 3 controller - and even games that have already been released are on the list - most will be updatable through patches online. The only slight downer is that we don't have a price yet and those in America and Europe will be waiting until Q'2 2008 to see the new controller. Anyway here's Sony's press release with details of games:

Tokyo, September 20, 2007 – Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) today announced that it would release DUALSHOCK 3 Wireless Controller, a new controller for PLAYSTATION 3 (PS3) incorporating a rumble feature, in Japan in November as a separately sold accessory. It inherits the basic design and functionality of the popular PlayStation controller, while keeping the high-precision, high response motion sensitive sixaxis sensing system. Introduction to North American and European markets is expected in spring 2008.

The added rumble feature, combined with the highly realistic motion sensitive sixaxis sensing system, takes gamers deeper into the world of interactivity, delivering a more intuitive, realistic and immersive game play experience. The new controller will also benefit PS3 content creators, by giving them the ability to further expand their creative imagination.

PS3 titles that are already in the market may become compatible with the rumble feature through software update.

With DUALSHOCK 3 and the attractive lineup of PS3 titles incorporating the rumble feature, SCEI will introduce more new ways of enjoyment that can only be found on PS3, and will further redefine the world of entertainment.

    Sony TGS Presentation
It's Tokyo Game Show time and earlier today Sony held their Press Conference. It was tamer then we thought. No Final Fantasy VII remake. No price cut. As expected - or should that be as stupidly leaked by EA early - the Dual Shock 3 has been announced. Sony were kind enough to summarise the main points from the presentation in a Press Release - here it is.

      Tokyo, 20 September, 2007

At Tokyo Game Show 2007, Kazuo Hirai, President and Group CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI), today made a keynote speech that demonstrated the strength and new plans of the PlayStation business.

      - Further Expansion of the PlayStation 2 business
In the 8th year from launch, PlayStation 2 still sees steady demands particularly in North America and Europe. Reaching the remarkable milestone of the 120 millionth shipment in the 7th year from launch, PlayStation 2 will have longer-tail business compared to its predecessor, the original PlayStation. Targeting at further expanding the business into the emerging markets, SCEI will continue to vigorously promote PlayStation 2, by introducing more and more exciting new games.

      - PSP (PlayStation Portable), a Key Driving Force for the Growth Strategy for Overall PlayStation Business
Strong support from users worldwide as well as abundant exciting software line-up including million seller titles from publishers around the world, have resulted in PSP hardware shipment exceeding 26 million units worldwide by June, 2007. SCEI will further enhance its portability and convenience for users along with continuous cost reduction measures to boost the expansion of the PSP platform.

      • Introduce color variations and popular software bundled products to meet the needs of variety of users around the world.
      • Offer users new entertainment experiences that are only possible on PSP, by enriching network content and services in addition to introducing unique peripherals such as camera, GPS, and "1Seg" TV tuner.
      • Deploy market oriented strategies in each region.
With PSP, equipped with an overwhelmingly powerful CPU and a high resolution large LCD screen for a handheld device, SCEI will further extend the boundaries of game experiences by fully utilizing "Remote Play". The combination of PS3 and PSP Remote Play will offer PSP users more exciting and new ways to enjoy rich interactive entertainment content especially of sports, RPG, and shooting.

      - Strengthening Software Development Environment for PLAYSTATION 3 (PS3) along with the Introduction of More Software Titles and Unique Peripherals
SCEI will be even more supportive of third party developers by way of following measures.

      • Share assets and know-how built up within Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios (SCE WWS).
      • Hold advisory board in periodical basis to get feedback from publishers.
      • Implement various strategies and sharing of information to enhance efficiency in games development.
      • Share SN Systems tool chain.

In a strategic move to secure excellence in games development for current and future PlayStation platforms, SCEI have acquired leading game developer Evolution Studios Ltd. and its subsidiary Bigbig studios Ltd., to further expand its games development capability as part of SCE WWS.

Continuous cost reduction efforts including shrinking the chip size and reducing the number of components. Cost reduction of hardware is one of the most important challenges for our business and SCEI will further accelerate this effort.

SCEI will continue R&D efforts to accommodate to users' demand. As part of such efforts, SCEI today announced DUALSHOCK 3 Wireless Controller, a new controller for PS3 incorporating a rumble feature, to become available in Japan in November as a separately sold accessory. It inherits the basic design and functionality of the popular PlayStation controller, while keeping the motion sensitive six-axis sensing system. Introduction to North American and European markets is expected in spring 2008.

      - Creation of New Business Opportunities Suitable for the Network Era
More than 2.7 million users worldwide have gone on-line with PS3. The number of users that are on-line is steadily increasing, enjoying the latest PS3 network games as well as exchanging messages and video chatting on-line.

      • Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will be available both on Blu-ray Disc and as a downloadable content from PLAYSTATION Network on December 13th in the Japanese market. Gran Turismo 5 Prologue presents a new life style beyond traditional game experiences such as on-line car dealers and "GT.TV", an in-game service for the distribution of car programs.
      • PLAYSTATION Home, a 3D on-line user community service, is currently under development to be launched in spring 2008.
      • PLAYSTATION Store in Japan offers more than 500 entertainment content including more than 30 of downloadable new games and demos, more than 300 of addon game content, more than 100 "Game Archives" titles for PSP/PS3 and about 90 movie trailers.
      • SCEI today opened PLAYSTATION Store on PC in Japan which enables PSP users to download a wide variety of digital entertainment content available on PLAYSTATION Network via their PC.

      - Future Possibility for PS3
With the participation of PS3 incorporating super computer-like powerful Cell Broadband Engine (Cell/B.E.)– and what will be even more powerful when connected to the network – Stanford University’s Folding@home program achieved a total computing power of 1 petaflop at a single moment, of which 80% calculation was contributed by PS3 users. With PS3, equipped with this powerful Cell/B.E. as well as other state-of-the-art technology such as full HD capability and Blu-ray, SCEI will continue to expand a new world of interactive entertainment.

    Blu-Ray Review
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang isn't a movie which a lot of people would have seen - the box office aroun the globe was a paltry $US15 million. Having said that this is a gem of a movie and well worth a look. This Blu-Ray disc is worth a look with a solid transfer and a nice audio commentary as an extra as well.

Codemasters has today issued a press release with regards to the unfortunate death of Colin McRae over the weekend. The statement is as follows:

      Colin McRae, 1968 – 2007.

17th September, 2007 – Everyone at Codemasters, especially those who worked directly with Colin McRae, is deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic events of this weekend.

The loss of Colin McRae is deeply distressing. That it involved his son and another so young makes it even more tragic. Our thoughts are with his family and those closest to him and we share in their pain.

For over ten years, Colin was part of the Codemasters family and it was a privilege to have a man recognised as a true legend on the team. He always took a keen interest in the game experience, wanting to make sure it was without equal in its portrayal of the sport.

His contribution was inspirational and brought his technical expertise and passion for rally driving to each and every McRae game. Through the popularity of those games, he brought a whole new audience to the sport itself.

Codemasters’ relationship with Colin began through Jim, David and Richard Darling and their condolences, along with ours, are passed to Colin’s family. We are heavy of heart at his passing but we are also brimming with pride at knowing him and to have played a small role in his life.

He will never be forgotten by all at Codemasters.

Our sponsors GamesWarehouse (please use our links to buy from them - it helps cover the cost of this site!) has listed some new release dates for several games - with dates sometime after those provided by distributers. SingStar is listed for November 15, Medal of Honor: Airborne is set for December 6, Lair is listed for November 1 and Time Crisis 4 is scheduled for December 6. As yet these dates haven't been confirmed by their respective companies, but Gameswarehouse has been on the money for delays in the past.

Rumours are growing that that Tokyo Game Show, which starts on September 20 will see a new "rumble enabled" Dual Shock 3 shown for the very first time. There has been plenty of rumour and speculation that it would be released late this year - and indeed there was a lot of hope it would be shown at E3 last July before, well, nothing. Sony are of course remaining quiet on the situation.

Nintendo's Nintendo's senior VP of marketing George Harrison has confirmed he will resign from Nintendo America effective in late December. The reason for his leaving is due to an unwillingness to move to California. As yet Harrison, who has been with Nintendo since 1992, has not announced where he will be heading next.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 is a game which many PS3 owners have been eagerly awaiting. A bit of sad news to report today with the (assumed) death of ex-rally car driver Colin McRae at 39 years of age. Apparently he was piloting a helicopter with his 5 year old son and two others on board when it crashed killing everyone. While formal identification is still to take place there is little doubt. Of course gamers would be well aware of Colin McRae from his brilliant rally game series - the latest of which, Colin McRae DIRT - is due out in a couple of weeks on PS3. Our sympathies are with family and friends of Colin McRae.

Sega has confirmed that they are currently developing Yakuza: Kenzan! for release in Japan early next year. The game, which will likely be called Yakuza 3 outside Japan will be a Playstation 3 exclusive.

Well it was leaked, then removed for Namco Bandai's web site, but now the company has confirmed that Eternal Sonata will indeed be coming to the PS3. Now, if they just confirm the on-off-on-off Beautiful Katamari I'd be much happier!

Those of you eagerly awaiting the awesome Colin McRae DIRT will have to wait a little longer with Atari Australia shifting the game back a week until September 28th.

NHL 2K8 is the second in 2K Sports' Ice Hockey franchise to make it to the PS3. The years development since the launch of the system has given the developers a lot more time to refine and improve the game. Have they done that? As you'll see in our preview it appears so.

Some great news for those considering picking up a PSP with the new slim model released in Australia today. The base pack sells for $279.95 (althoguh you can save a bit by shopping around). The slim version is significantly slimmer (19% to be exact), weighs a lot less (33% to be precise!), has faster loading times for games and includes improved battery life.

Great news for Ratchet & Clank fans with Sony confirming that Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction will be released in America on October 23rd, and in Europe in November. Better still is the news that a demo is confirmed to be released in both territories on October 4th.

Remember yesterday how we told you Namco Bandai's web site now listed Beautiful Katamari and Eternal Sonata for release on the PS3? Well the PS3 has now been taken off each listing - could it have been a typo, or was someone jumping the gun. Time will tell... Our money is still on both games appearing on PS3 in due course.

Prepare for a new Firmware for the PS3. Apparently Firmware 1.91 will be released in the next couple of days. This update fixes some online issues caused by the last update. Sadly it looks like another 120Mb of wasted downloads for European gamers - seeing as the previous Firmware did nothing for us, this one will effectively fix nothing.

    PSP News
Well it won't just be PS3 firmware released this week with Firmware 3.71 heading to a PSP in the coming days as well. The good news though is that the PSP firmware actually adds in new features including adding themes to your PSP, scene searching withing movies and playing music while browsing photos among others. A full changelog will be released with the Firmware in the coming days.

Katamari fans get ready to celebrate. According to this link at Namco Bandai's own web site Beautiful Katamari is listed for the PS3. The game had been listed as a XBox 360 exclusive.

That's not all as Namco Bandai have also listed Eternal Sonata for PS3 at this link. Hooray!

Take Two have confirmed that L.A. Noir, the PS3 exclusive in development at Team Bondi in Sydney, will not be released during their fiscal year 2008, which means the game will not hit the shelves until November 2008 at the very earliest. In what could be the biggest scandal since the source code for Half-Life 2 was leaked onto the web a couple of years ago reports are surfacing that some has either stolen, or hacked into Rockstar, and leaked a beta version of Manhunt 2 onto the internet. What makes this even more interesting is that this is apparently the uncut version - the one which has been banned everywhere in the world except Holland. Needless to say downloading the game is highly illegal and we're positive Rockstar are already trying to track it down and stop it.
