Retail Specials News
We don't usually promote stores, but this is a sale too good to pass up. Electronics Boutique is currently having a sale in their stores on a massive range of their games. While many PS3 games are discounted by $30, a large number of PSP and PS2 games (as well as other platforms including the PC) have a massive 50% off! It's a sale which you really can't miss but be quick as the good stuff is walking out the door. The sale started today (we got Civilization IV on PC for $AU45, Far Cry on PC for $AU9.90, and Point Blank on NDS for $AU35 - that one is for the wife!). We did see Tony Hawk's Project 8 and Splinter Cell: Double Agent on PS3 for half price - both worth picking up according to our reviews.
The other great news is that Electronics Boutique now has an Australian web site (With a catalogue of their current sale). You can check out their web site at this link: www.ebgames.com.au.
Electronic Arts has announced Need for Speed: Pro Street will be released on the PS3. The game looks like a return to daytime racing with plenty of damage to cars. The trailer even shows a car flipping over - will it make it to the final game though? We'll find out in November when the game is released.
Atari Australia has sent out a new release schedule and one big game which many have been eagerly awaiting is Colin McRae DIRT after going from May to a TBA date a couple of months ago. The game is now due out in September and has a RRP of $AU109.95.
According to Japanese magazine Weekly Famitsu Lair has been renamed in Japan to Rise From Lair. No word if this will mean a name change outside Japan - stay tuned.

Blacksite: Area 51 is almost certain to be a kick-ass game. Midway are putting the finishing touches on this superb looking FPS which should hit the PS3 this September. The PS2 game was great, this next-gen sequel looks even better! Here's a preview with the latest screens and info.
Well the article has now been removed, but a couple of days ago NZ retailers GamePlanet, had a listing for SingStar 90's on the PS2. While the game hasn't even been announced what makes it 'almost official' is that the listing had screenshots - and a full tracklisting. With the page gone we suspect Sony had a few words to them, but we managed to grab the tracklisting - which we must say looks pretty awesome. Here it is:
Never Ever - All Saints

As many of you have patiently been awaiting our winners of the F.E.A.R. Competition we finally have our three winners. They are Matt Fisher, Paul Herron and Tim Paladin. You will each received a copy of the game on PS3 thanks to Vivendi Games Australia any day now. To everyone else, better luck next time.
Rockstar Games has announced that Midnight Club: Los Angeles is heading to the Playstation 3 in early 2008. The game is the fourth in the series and is currently in development at series creator Rockstar San Diego. Given how much we love the previous games on PS2 we simply can't wait to see this game which is certain to be one of the best games on the system next year.
Buzz! The Mega Quiz is out in stores now in case you were wondering. Sony's Buzz series is one which has opened up a new genre in video games and this is the best in the series yet. There has never been a better time to answer some questions! Here's our full review.

Word on the street, and this word has come from three different sources to me tonight, is that from this Friday retailers across Australia will start to offer a free game when you purchase a PS3. Now one source had no info on the deal, another said that it would mean you could get any of Sony's games free with the system (those games being Motorstorm, Formula One Championship Edition, Resistance: Fall of Man, Genji: Days of the Blade, or Ridge Racer 7), while the third source said that if you bought the system and either Resistance: Fall of Man or Motorstorm, you will get one of the other three for free. More soon.
Koei has confirmed that BladeStorm: The Hundred Years War will be released in Japan this August. As yet an Australian release date has not been set.
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent didn't quite make it out for the PS3 launch, but it wasn't far behind. Ubisoft's Splinter Cell series has gone from strength to strength and this latest promises to be the best as Sam Fisher fights for two sides. We review the PS3 version...
Blu-Ray Movie Review
Windtalkers is a movie that failed to live up to expectations, but it does have some great battles, and a decent storyline. We've taken the Blu-Ray for a spin and give you our opinion of the transfer to the newest High Definition video media - which, believe it or not - you can watch on your PS3.
May 26, 2007
Another week and another dreary Playstation Store Update. Today Sony have put up a trailer for Calling All Cars, a flOw trailer, and a trailer for the movie Spiderman 3. Way to go Sony, a movie trailer a couple of weeks after the movie comes out! (Oh, I was being sarcastic unless you missed my point!)
According to rumours Sly Raccoon will be appearing on the PS3. While there hasn't been an official announcement we certainly hope this is true as the PS2 games are quite entertaining.
Activision has announced that LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga will be released on the PS3 late this year. The game combines the two previous LEGO Star Wars games together so you can play through all six episodes in the one game. The game will include new characters and sections not seen in the previous games.

Sony has released Firmware update 1.80 for the PS3 - and it's an update that those will HDTV's will certainly be eager to install. Why you ask? Well this update now allows the system to upscale DVD's to 1080p, as well as PSOne and PS2 games. Other changes include the ability to tweak the display options over HDMI cables, Remote Play to the PSP over the Internet, Copying game Saves to the PS2 Memory Cards (if you have the Memory Card Adapter obviously), using DNLA to access media on compatible devices (Windows XP/Vista), printing to Epson printers, new slideshows, image trimming, more download management options and even more. It's a bloody impressive update (unlike 1.70) and you can see all the details here.
Blu-Ray Movie Review
Ice Age: The Meltdown is one of the greatest animated movies of all time - well it certainly is in our book anyway. It is available on Blu-Ray from next week in Australia and we are very proud to have one of the very first reviews of this disc. In short, you won't be disappointed!
May 23, 2007
Atari Australia sent through their latest release schedules today and it has some good and bad news for PS3 owners. To get the bad out of the way we can now confirm that, like America, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will not be released here until March 2008 - at least it's been confirmed for release. The good news though is that the stunning Ninja Gaiden Sigma has a rrp of $AU109.95, and should be able to be picked up for under $AU100 if you shop around. Finally Clive Barker's Jericho has been given a release date of September 2007.
JoWood has confirmed they are looking to release Gothic 4 on the PC and next generation consoles. The developers of the previous games have been dumped and JoWood is apparently shopping around for a new developer.
Ubisoft has confirmed that they have pushed back the release of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 on the PS3 until August 31 in Europe (and therefor the rest of the world essentially). It's not all bad as the PS3 version will include support for the Sixaxis, 14 new multiplayer maps, new respawn points, new female operatives and much more. It actually sounds like the wait will be worth it.
Disney Interactive Studios have confirmed they have shipped an impressive 2.8 million units of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End on all platforms (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PS2, PSP, and NDS) in the leadup to it's release this week. The game, of which we will have reviews soon, not only follows the events of the third movie, but also covers the second.
Everybody's Tennis is a game which youngters will love. Clap Hanz are most well known for their brilliant Everybody's Golf titles. They're now set to tackle a new sport, but is it just as impressive as their golf games? Here's our verdict.
May 22, 2007
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is an all new franchise, but one which is certain to become a household name. In fact it's quite possibly that this will become the standout title on the PS3 during 2007. Not only does it look sensational but the story is interesting, and gameplay appears solid. Perhaps the most important fact is the developer: Naughty "Crash Bandicoot and Jak & Daxter" Dog.
Red Ant have confirmed that John Woo's Stranglehold will not be released in Australia with the bonus Blu-Ray movie Hard Boiled as found in the American Collectors Edition. Unfortunately it appears that the movie won't be available in this territory to be a part of the disc. It's still early news, and Red Ant are looking at other options, but it looks like we may be out of luck. Oh, and if you think you can just import the game/movie from America you may want to keep in mind that it may have region coding on the movie so it won't play in Australian PS3's (given that America is a different region to us).
Rockstar have confirmed that Grand Theft Auto IV will be released as a special edition with a few fantastic features. Here's the announcement for your pleasure:
Rockstar Games announces Grand Theft Auto IV Special Edition

Shrek the Third. With the third movie in Dreamworks' franchise smashing into US cinemas last weekend, and coming out here in Australia in a few weeks, the required videogame tie-in is also going to be here soon. Actually, it looks pretty good.
May 21, 2007
If you live in Korea you're in luck. According to the Official Playstation Website over there Sony will not be releasing the 60GB PS3, but rather are upgrading the system to an 80GB Hard Drive. The system will be released on June 16th in that territory. Sony has no plans to release this upgraded version outside that territory. Having said that PS3 owners should all be aware that you can upgrade your own system to any sized 2.5" Hard Drive.
Manhunt 2 is not a game for youngsters let's make that clear right now and it is something that Rockstar will readily admit to. The most controversial game ever returns in sequel form. Rockstar London is putting finishing touches in another bloody (literally) game. We have first screens and info.
John Woo's Stranglehold is such an exciting game for a number of reasons. With John Woo and Chow Yun-Fat both taking a large part in the development of this game, and as a 'spiritual sequel' to the hit movie Hard Boiled, this is a game to watch. Developers Midway delayed the launch by almost a year to ensure it was the very best it could be - and quite possibly the best on the PS3 to date.
May 19, 2007
Well another Saturday means another update to the Playstation Store for Australians - and yet again it's piss poor. This week we get a new downloadable game in the form of Q*Bert for $AU5.00 which is basically the old game emulated and a second music pack for Ridge Racer 7 ($AU6.95). Two videos made it out as well the first being a trailer for The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and the second a Making of This is Living - hardly exciting stuff.
Starbreeze has confirmed they are remaking Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay for the PS3. The new game will include improved visuals over the XBox and PC original (which really is a great game) but more importantly will include around 40% more levels as well. The new game will be called Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena.
Vivendi has confirmed that Timeshift will also be coming out on PS3 as well as the previously announced XBox 360 and PC versions. According to Atari Australia the game will be out in Spring 2007.
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer is yet another movie tie-in coming to the PS3. Perhaps the most interesting part of this game isn't how good it looks but rather that the game is being developed by Visual "Sports Games" Concepts. Here's a preview with the latest screens and info.
May 17, 2007
While Halo 3 has just been announced for release on September 25 in America and September 26 in Europe Guerilla has confirmed that a demo of Killzone 2 will be released on the Playstation 3 sometime this year. In the Killzone official forums MotherH (a member of the development team) had this to say:
Of course there is going to be a public beta, I have always said that any game that has an online mode needs to go through a public beta to ensure it works as intended.
More on a beta later this year.
Midway has confirmed that they will be releasing a Stranglehold: Collector's Edition in America for $US10 more then the retail price. What bonus do you get as a result? Well how about a copy of the movie Hard Boiled, the prequel to this game! Not only that but the movie will be on the Blu-Ray disc (eg both the game and movie on one disc), and we therefor assume with a kick-ass quality tranfer. As yet it is unclear if this will be limited to America - but we hope not!
Ninja Gaiden Sigma is a shot in the arm which the PS3 sorely needs at the moment. Tecmo's ninja slashing action title is about to be unleashed and it looks like pushing the system to new heights. Our preview includes first impressions, and several stunning (and certainly in-game in case you don't believe me) screens.
May 16, 2007
Yesterday we brought you the news that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots EB Games have now listed the release date of the game in America as March 1st. Well now Australian retailer has listed the game as well, but they have the game listed as November 2007. Seeing as Gameswarehouse only listed the game today they must have only reveived their date recently from distributors Atari.
Several other games have popped up on Gameswarehouses release dates. Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix is June 28, SingStar is listed for July 26th, Stuntman: Ignition is August 31st, Heavenly Sword, Lair, Stranglehold and Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights are all September and Clive Barker's Jericho is December.
AFL Premiership 2007 isn't going to be the best game we've seen on the PS2, but if you're an AFL fan then you'll have June 28th penciled in already. Developers IR Gurus aren't making radical changes but are enhancing and evolving last years title (which we thought was fairly solid according to our review here).
May 15, 2007
Sony's PS3 firmware updates have been released on a regular basis since the system launched last year in Japan and America. We now have a "rumoured" list of updates for Firmware 2.0 which is extensive to say the least. Perhaps the biggest change (if true) is the ability to access the XMB while playing a game (hooray!). The one disappointment is that there still isn't mention of the PS3 decoding DTS-HD audio to PCM to pass to an amplifier, nor an ability to transport the DTS-HD or Dolby Digital Plus directly to a decoder over HDMI. Still, you can check out the extensive list of rumoured changes at this link. Now we must clarify that the poster "Leah" has since confirmed that her account had been hacked and someone else posted the list. The thing is that it is so detailed, and long, that someone has a) either put considerable effort into making it or b) has copied off an official document (there has been mention it came from the Sony Presscentre - which may explain why it was shut down for part of last night). For now, a rumour - or perhaps someones wishlist.
According to EB Games Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will not be released in September 2007 as planned but has been delayed until March 1, 2008. Konami are yet to confirm the delay but EB Games is fairly reliable.
Armored Core 4 isn't actually the fourth game in the series. In fact From Software have been developing Armored Core titles for a decade, and this 12th game is the first to hit PS3. If the gameplay is solid this will make mech fans quite happy.
Smash Court Tennis 3 is coming to Sony's handheld later this month. If you like your tennis games and own a PSP then this may be the title for you. Namco look to have ported their great PS2 titles to the handheld. Here's a preview.
May 14, 2007
According to several sources SingStar on the PS3 will be released in Australia on July 21st. What is interesting, and somewhat depressing, is that at this stage the game will be released with wired controllers - with those new wireless controllers not scheduled to come out until late 2007 now. As always treat this as a rumour until we recieved the offical word from Sony - hopefully in the coming days.
Sony has confirmed that Motorstorm will receive Update 1.20 on June 7th. This update, as we have detailed in the past, fixes many problems including sound glitches, removes the boost exploit but most importantly builds in a Time Attack mode and ghost cars.
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End may be named after the third movie in the series, however it actually covers the events of both the second and third movies. Developed by Eurocom the game is looking pretty sharp. Here's a preview with the latest screens and info.
May 13, 2007
The Competition to WIN one of 3 copies of F.E.A.R. on PS3 has now closed. The winners will be announced shortly. Thanks to everyone that entered.
PS3 Store News
For those of you unaware the Playstation Store has been updated again very late on Friday night (or Saturday morning). What we can say though is that for the third week running the updates are less then impressive - especially compared to the quantity being released on the Japanese and American Stores. This week we get a trailer for the original Rocky on Blu-Ray (free), a trailer for Warhawk (free) and a music pack for Ridge Racer 7 ($AU6.95).
C'mon Sony get your asses into gear and give us some good shit to play. Def Jam ICON demo would be a start, and perhaps the Ninja Gaiden: Sigma demo, how about trailers for Playstation Home and Little Big Planet or movie trailers such as Transformers or Pirates of the Caribbean 3 in 1080p. Calling All Cars from David "God of War" Jaffe would be great, oh yar, and how about the many PSOne games released in America to date?? LIFT YOUR GAME SONY!
Transformers: The Game is, unsurprisingly, based on the upcoming Transformers movie from director Michael Bay. It could be one of the best movies of 2007 - and certainly the most explosive. This movie tie-in game from Activision on PS3 looks like plenty of fun. Here's our preview.
May 12, 2007
THQ has confirmed that Saint's Row on the PS3 has been canned so the developers can concentrate on the sequel announced recently.
May 11, 2007
Atari has confirmed they have hired Lorenzo Carcaterra as a scriptwriter for Alone in the Dark: Near Death Investigation. Lorenzo is probably most well know as the writer of the hit movie Sleepers. The game is due out on the PS3 in late 2007.
American Playstation 3 owners can be happy as the highly anticipated Calling All Cars is now available for download through the Playstation Store for $US9.99. As yet we haven't got confirmation regarding a release in Europe or Australia - who knows it could be tomorrow morning!
THQ has confirmed that a sequel to Saint's Row is coming out on the PS3 (and XBox 360) sometime in 2008. The sequel is in development at Volition who worked on the original XBox 360 title.
Sega has announced the Condemned 2: Bloodshot is in development for the PS3 at Monolith Productions. The game will include improved combat and online multi-player.
May 10, 2007
Devil May Cry 4 is certain to be a monster hit when it hits the shelves. Capcom's Devil May Cry franchise has become a hit on the PS2 and now the fourth game is heading to Sony's newest console. The game looks sharp, and is certainly one to watch out for. This preview includes several screens released only this week!
May 8, 2007
In what can only be seen as a massive boost for Sony's struggling handheld system Square-Enix have announced that Final Fantasy Dissidia is in development for the system. Besides that nothing much else is known - but it's big news in any case.
Rumours doing the rounds on the internet at the moment are that Atari will be releasing a sequel to Test Drive Unlimited on the PC and XBox 360 in March 2008. Hopefully a PS2/PSP/PS3 release will also be confirmed at some stage, unless the whole story is a cruel hoax.
Blu-Ray Movie Review
World Trade Center is a movie that has divided opinion - particularly in America. Is it too soon for a movie covering this tragic event? Perhaps for some, but I didn't feel so. Fortunately director Oliver Stone handled this with much respect, and Paramount have produced the best Blu-Ray release to date. Here's our full review of this 'must have' release.
May 7, 2007
Sony has confirmed that AFL Premiership 2007 will be released on the the Playstation 2 on June 28th 2007. As we reported the other day the game has passed the OFLC and been awarded a G rating. Expect more details and a preview very soon. (Needless to say it's looking pretty nice). Sadly there has been no mention of the PSP version which was confirmed last year.
F.E.A.R. is widely regarded as one of the best FPS's of the last couple of years on the PC and XBox 360, so the port to PS3 was highly anticipated. Did the developers deliver on the systems potential? Read our full review now to find out. Don't forget to enter the Competition too!
May 5, 2007
See that big nasty-ass animated logo at the top of the page? It has been there for about 3 week now! Anyway thanks to Vivendi Games Australia we have three, yes 3, copies of the very kick-ass F.E.A.R. on PS3 to give away. Two simple questions and the game could be yours. Entries close May 9th so get cracking.
The Queens of the Stone Age have confirmed, and are the first band to be confirmed, to appear in the upcoming Guitar Hero III (which will likely be on both PS2 and PS3). The game is expected to be released in late 2007.
Splinter Cell: Conviction has sort of unofficially been announced prior to the unveiling later this month but PS3 owners will be saddened to hear it won't be coming to Sony's system. Stunningly Ubisoft Montreal developers have said the game would not be possible on PS3 - but clarified it would require them to split up the development team thereby reducing their ability to put all their efforts into a single system. I still have my suspicions that like many Ubisoft titles the game will eventially make its way to other systems.
The AFL has submitted AFL Premiership 2007 for ratings at the OFLC where it has been awarded a G rating. What makes this so interesting is that despite knowing the game is in development it still does not appear on their release schedules for the next 3 months. Given the number of delays to previous games only days out for release could Sony be setting us up for a 'surpise' or very short notice release? It's possible. Stay tuned.
May 3, 2007
Calling All Cars, the next game from David "God of War" Jaffe has been delayed and will not make the European May 25th release date due to two bugs found in the game. We have to applaude this move as it shows dedication to providing the best possible game, for a budget price - and from what we have seen this is going to be pretty kick-ass too. Look for a June release.
I can't believe I missed it for a month, but I have just done a massive update to the PSP Preview & Release Schedule Page. There have been quite a few updates and release date changes so make sure you check it out.
Prince of Persia: Rival Swords is the second Prince of Persia title on the PSP can't be worse then the first can it? Fortunately not. This is a much better package and a worthwhile addition to any PSP library. Here's our full review of this hack and slash title.
May 2, 2007
Ubisoft has confirmed that Rainbow Six Vegas now has an anticpated release date of June 28th - the same day as the PSP version.
A clarification is needed regarding yesterdays news. We listed SingStar Pop Hits under PS3 News. The game is in fact a PS2 title - the PS3 version of SingStar still hasn't been confirmed in terms of release date or songs as yet - but it won't be too far off. In fact, according to some retail sources the PS3 game is currently looking at a release date of June 21st.
Genji: Days of the Blade is another of Sony's PS3 launch titles. Indeed this is a hack and slash game from Japanese developers Game Republic. Michael has played through this game with the "Giant Crabs" and tells us all if it's actually any good? Check it out.
May 1, 2007
Spiderman 3 is going to be a massive movie when it hits cinemas later this week and the PS3 game tie in isn't too far behind. Treyarch, who developed the two previous games, are back for this outing and it looks better then ever. The move to next-generation looks quite stunning. Here's a rather late look at the game.
Sony Australia has finally announced the release of SingStar Pop Hits in Australia this June. The game will feature the same gameplay we've all come to love with 30 new tracks. These include...
