According to PS2.IGN Namco's Dead to Rights will still be coming to the PS2. The confustion over the game being an exclusive for the XBox concerns the fact that the game will be an XBox exclusive for 3 months. I can only hope those 3 months are used to optimise the PS2 game further to kick the XBox when the PS2 game comes out. Expect a PS2 release in mid 2002.
Acclaim has shipped Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2 in America. The game is also meant to ship today in Australia although I am still awaiting confirmation.
According to reports out of Japan Konami have locked in a release date for Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty. The game is apparently set for release on December 13th, about a month after America. Unfortunately the PAL release looks set for February 2002.
August 29, 2001
Namco has confirmed that Soul Calibur 2 and a new Ridge Racer game will be heading to the Playstation 2 as well as XBox and Gamecube. What's more the company is aiming for a simultaneous worldwide release for both games on all consoles in all three territories.
In an interesting announcement Namco has announced that their action game Dead To Rights will be appearing on the XBox, as an exclusive!! This is strange as the game was previously announced as a Playstation 2 game, and development was almost complete. Will it appear on Playstation 2? Expect clarification soon.
XBox - Major News Only
Things keep on looking better for Sony this Christmas. Microsoft have confirmed that the XBox launch in Japan has been delayed until February 22nd, 2002. Apparently this is so the company can ride into Japan following the success of the American launch. Rumours of a fault in the motherboard have been denied by the company. This delay comes only days after Nintendo confirmed a 2 week delay for the Gamecube in America which is now schedule for release on November 18, 10 days after the XBox. Naturally both systems should be sellouts with a lot of people likely to turn to games like Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Jak & Daxter and Wipeout Fusion. Of course there is only one system to play them on.
Only 2 more days until the poll on the Main Page is changed again. If you haven't voted this month then make sure you do so immediatly.

Take 2 Interactive have announced a new racing game based on the Bruce Willis movie, The Fifth Element. The game, titled New York Race 2215, sees you racing the flying vehicles found in the early stages of the movie. The game will include 30 different flying vehicles, 12 tracks filled with 3D shortcuts and familiar background elements, and 5 elements (big shock here) that provide vital power-ups to push you ahead. The game is currently expected to be release here sometime in November.
Vivendi Universal have announced that they will take over the publishing of Interplay and Titus' games in America. The move will see Interplay become a development company only with the move set to save the fledgling company around $UA10 million per year. No word yet if this will affect Interplay Australia in any way but it should be business as usual.
I have added a preview of Namco's recently announced MotoGP 2 which also contains several screenshots. Enjoy.
There was a bit of a glitch with the server yesterday with regards to the review of THQ's Onimusha: Warlords. This has now been fixed and everyone should now be able to access the review. I suggest you read it if you haven't already as it's a great game.
August 26, 2001
A couple of days ago I reported that Namco are working on MotoGP 2 for PS2 with a release early next year. It now looks like Japan will receive the game as early as October this year. Expect a preview soon.
THQ have confirmed that they will be releasing Resident Evil Code: Veronica X here in Australia. The game is currently scheduled to be released on September 21st, in 4 short weeks. After playing the Dreamcast version there is little doubt that this will be another winner. Those of you wondering about Resident Evil 4 should stop waiting... it won't be available until around mid-2002.
If you haven't voted yet this month in the Poll I beg you to head on over to the Main Page to cast your vote to which action movie you would like to see made into a new console game.
It's taken some time, but that's because I've had so much fun playing it. THQ's Onimusha: Warlords is an awesome game. Miss it at your peril, well check out the review at the very least.
August 24, 2001
Namco has announced that they are developing MotoGP 2 for the Playstation 2. The game will include 10 courses in total including 5 new ones from Catelunya, Mugello, Sachsenring, Assen and LeMans. The game is currently expected to be released (possibly in PAL territories first) in early 2002.
It's may be offbeat and it's definitely not mainstream but Gallop Racer 2001 has been released in America. Tecmo have released it in very limited quantities. Unfortunately it will most likely never make it to Australia or Europe but Americans can be happy.
More joy for Americans as Madden NFL 2002 has shipped to stores. By all accounts it is even better then the original Madden 2001 with several gameplay enhancements as well as graphical touches.
I have added a preview to another Acclaim distributed, Swing published, but Treasure developed title called Freak Out which should be in stores this week. This is definitely a game that Treasure fans should have a look at.
Gamecube - Major News Only
Nintendo have announced a delay for the Gamecube in America. The system was originally intended to be release on November 5, three days before the XBox, but has been delayed until November 18th. This is in order to increase the initial shipment from 500,000 units to 700,000 units. Nintendo are hoping to sell 1.1 million units by the New Year. This gives the XBox a 10-day head start over the Gamecube.
Speaking of Gamecube at the Spaceworld show this weekend Nintendo have also announced two new colours for the Gamecube. As well as the bluish colour seen to date the company has announced a Jet Black and Spice Orange console. These two new colours will be release in Japan in November and will be available at launch in America. No word yet on Australia or Europe.
August 22, 2001
I had a bit of a chat today to Sharon at Sony and managed to pry some interesting tidbits regarding Sega games on the Playstation 2. The first game expected on the system is surprisingly Ecco The Dolphin in late November. A bit of a surprise as I was unaware that it was even coming to the Playstation 2. Next up is the awesome looking shooter, Rez from the developers of Space Channel 5. Speaking of which Sharon stated there is no release date for Space Channel 5 on the PS2 making a 2002 release likely. The other game expected this year is none other then Headhunter which was looking gorgeous on the Dreamcast before moving to the Playstation 2.
According to www.the-magicbox.com rumours are surfacing that Namco is planning on releasing Tekken 4 on Playstation 2 in Japan around mid-November this year. I can't say that I have heard these rumours myself yet but considering the arcade game is only just coming out it seems a little too soon considering the amount of extra features Namco usually put into their arcade ports.
Titus Interactive have taken a 51.53% majority share (up from 34%) in Interplay Entertainment. The takeover shouldn't result in too many disturbances to their release schedules, although as mentioned yesterday Rubu Tribe has been canned worldwide!
I have added a preview to the Acclaim distributed, Swing published, TOKA and Conspiracy Entertainment developed title, Hidden Invasion which was announced for release here last week and is due out today.
August 21, 2001
Want a release date for Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty? Of course you do. Ozisoft have confirmed that they game will be released in February 2002. This date should be fairly solid as the American date is November 2001 and Japan is December 2001 (yes, the American launch is before Japan). Another good sign is the expected price of the game. Initially it was thought that it would retail for $AU129 or $AU139 however Ozisoft have lowered the price to retailers which should see the game release at a much more reasonable $AU109.
Well, no sooner do I finish a preview of Rubu Tribe, then find out that the game has been canned. It showed a lot of potential and indeed many people were very fond of the game at May's E3 show. I'm not sure yet why it's been canned but it's a worldwide cancellation, not just Australia.
C&VG have changed their news about Time Crisis 2 stating that they were only testing the game with a G-Con 45 compatible gun and not the original Namco device. Apparently the original and genuine G-Con 45 light gun works perfectly with the game. Excellent.
Acclaim have confirmed that they will not be bringing NFL Quarterback Club 2002 to Australia. Unfortunately there isn't really the demand for NFL titles here, especially with EA's superb Madden series available here. When queried about Midway's new NFL game, NFL Blitz 20-02, Daniel stated that it should come out as it's a different style of game.
Acclaim have confirmed yet another Swing published game coming out this week, Hidden Invasion. Not sure what it's about but as usual I'll try to get a review out when I receive code in the next week or two.
Waiting for Acclaim's port of Zombie Revenge well you may have to wait just that little bit longer with Acclaim confirming the game won't make it to the shelves this year, and possibly not until March 2002. The development team is still working hard to finish 18 Wheeler: American Pro Trucker.
I have added a preview to Capcom's Street Fighter EX3 which is set to be released on September 9th thanks to THQ.
August 20, 2001
There is some confusion about Time Crisis 2 at the moment regarding the use of the original G-Con 45. While Sony initially announced that the game would be compatible with the older gun website C&VG have tested the latest code and could not get the old guns to work. Could it be that there are problems with the old guns, they haven't completed the code, or they have dropped support. Expect confirmation soon.
I once again went through the Release Schedule and updated over 40 titles. A lot of games have been pushed back a month or two (Duke Nukem D-Day has been pushed from September to December and 18 Wheeler: American Pro Trucker has been pushed back from August to 22nd November among others). On a brighter note you will see that Acclaim has picked up all the Swing titles for release here, this week!!. Those games include Flintstones: Viva Rock Vegas, Freak Out, Gun Griffon Blaze, Slipheed, and Sky Surfer. Unfortunately I haven't done any previews of these titles, because quite frankly I wasn't expecting them to be released. Rest assured I will try to review some of them after their release.
I have added a preview to the Acclaim developed, Sega title 18 Wheeler: America Pro Trucker as well as THQ and Yukes' exciting wrestling game WWF Smackdown!: Just Bring It which is expected to be released in late November.
At long last I have update the FAQ Page (Frequently Asked Questions) on the site which took quite a while. It has been totally re-written from scratch to replace the Dreamcast version to cover the Playstation 2 and should answer a lot of the most common questions that I receive. If you have any questions don't forget to send me an e-mail at email@example.com and I'll put them into the FAQ as well.
August 17, 2001
Acclaim have announced the music list for Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2 and it is indeed impressive. The game includes the following tracks;
Rage Against The Machine - Wake Up
Ozzy Osbourne - Paranoid
Sublime - Doin Time
Sum 41 - Makes No Difference
The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary
Tribe Called Quest - Buggin' Out
Methods of Mayhem - Hypocritical
Godsmack - Keep Away
Fenix TX - All My Fault
Gang Starr - Moment of Truth
The game is currently expected to be release on August 31 here in Australia and should provide some great entertainment as the original did on the Dreamcast.
Universal have confirmed they are developing a survival horror game based on John Carpenter's The Thing. Developed by Computer Artworks the game is expected to be released in the first half of 2002. The game picks up from the end of the movie and will be a single player game only.
Sony has confirmed worldwide shipments for the Playstation 2 to June 30, 2001. To date the company has shipped 14.95 units to stores with the following breakdown; 5.94 million units in Japan, 5.15 million units in North America and 3.86 million units to Europe and PAL territories. In total the company has also shipped 49.8 million units of software. While these aren't the sell through figures they indicate how well Sony are doing in the market, and how much work Nintendo and Microsoft have ahead of them.
In a shocking development Sierra have closed down development studios Dynamix. Dynamix was founded in 1984 by Jeff Runnell and Damon Slye and have produced some of the best PC games of the last 15 years. Games such as Red Baron and the Aces flight sims are highly regarded while in recent times the company had a massive hit with Tribes and Tribes 2 on the PC. The good news for PS2 owners however is that the port of Tribes 2 will be unaffected as it is actually being developed by Inevitable Entertainment, not Dynamix.
Well it's about time that I did a review of one of the most wanted games in years. Polyphony Digital's Gran Turismo 3 is simply stunning and if you have a PS2 you must get this game. If you don't have a PS2 you now have no excuse not to go and buy the bundle pack for under $AU700.
August 13, 2001
A couple of release dates have popped up in recent days for Eidos titles. Project Eden is expected first on September 21st. Next up is Herdy Gerdy which should appear on October 26 while Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2 has now been delayed until November.
Waiting for Devil May Cry? Well the wait should be a little harder now with Famitsu have given the game 34/40 overall with two 9's and two 8's. Expect an Australian release around Christmas.
One of my other passions, aside from games, is DVD movies. As a result I also decided that I will cover some of the major news on the DVD front, mainly because the PS2 also has the ability to play DVD movies. Anyway, in recent months some companies have decided that the public would prefer to have the movies in full-screen rather then widescreen as they appeared in the cinema. Warner Brothers are just about to do this with Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory in America, and Australia may follow as usual. The DVD was to include both full screen and widescreen versions however WB recently announced that they are now only going to release the full screen version only stating that it is "more family friendly". Anyway someone has been good enough to start up a petition to stop this butchering of such a classic and if you want you can join the almost 10,000 signatures by clicking this link. I hope you enjoy the graphic to the right as well as it sums up the situation pretty well.
August 10, 2001
This is it. Friday 10th of August 2001 should go down as the biggest game launch to date on the PS2. If you don't know what I'm talking about you must have been living in a shell as this is the day that the Gods of Gaming have looked upon Australia and smiled. Yes, Gran Turismo 3 is out now. Still reading this... hello? Oh you're probably already looking for the car keys. Understandable really.
Infogrames has released some information about The Terminator which has been in development at Paradigm Entertainment for just over six months now. The game is a third-person action game based in the future prior to Kyle Reese being sent back in time. Players take control of various soldiers in the future and must fight a variety of terminators, many of whom are being designed just for the game. The game will hit the Playstation 2 before other systems and is expected in Q'2 2002.
Rage have announced they are developing a new game called GTC Africa. The game, which stands for Global Touring Challenge, is effectively a rally game with cars from companies such as Ford, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Renault, and Pontiac. The game is currently expected to be released in Europe around November this year.
It's been confirmed that Grandia II, which is being ported by Ubisoft, will be virtually identical to the Dreamcast version released over a year ago. The only difference will be some of the cut-scenes.
Vivendi Universal have confirmed that they will be publishing Argonaut's upcoming Malice on both Playstation 2 and XBox. It is expected that the game will hit both systems close together in 2002. Poor old Microsoft, one of the best looking games will no longer be an exclusive.
I have added a review to the Midway developed, Acclaim Published CART Fury Racing Championship. I suggest you have a read of this before going out and buying this game.
August 7, 2001
I have added a review to Ubisoft's Moderngroove: Ministry of Sound Edition. An interesting (and very good) title; it's not a game, but more like an interactive CD.
August 5, 2001
Capcom of America have announced several release dates for PS2 games. Each of these titles is looking stunning but we can expect the ususal 2-6 month delay on each title in Australia. Anyway, the American dates are as follows.
August 29 - Resident Evil: Code Veronica X
October 17 - Devil May Cry
November 29 - Capcom Vs SNK 2
January 2002 - Maximo: Ghosts to Glory
Activision has confirmed it has snagged the rights to release games based on Spielberg's upcoming movie Minority Report starring Tom Cruise. Although little is know about the movie at this stage it is said to have plenty of action and science fiction aspects that will suit a game perfectly. The deal lasts for 5 years, so more then one game is possible.
I have added a preview to Capcom's highly anticipated Maximo: Ghosts to Glory which isn't expected until early next year, but is already shaping up extremely well.
August 4, 2001
According to reports from America there have been some problems with Gran Tusrismo 3 and the official steering wheel. Apparently for no reason during a race the wheel will cease working. It can easily be fixed by pausing the game unplugging it, and then plugging it back in, but it's not an ideal solution. Apparently the problem is more frequent if a controller is plugged into the Playstation 2 while the wheel is used in the USB port. Future Gamez would like to stress that this problem is isolated to the American version, and in no way has this fault been detected in the PAL game due out next Friday.
An interesting rumour has appeared on PS2.IGN which states that Sony are apparently considering removing the DVD movie playback feature from future PS2 systems. While it may save them some money I can't personally see it happening. What about those games that use MPEG2 movie playback with DD5.1 sound? If anything this would be too valuable an asset to lose.
There was a pretty big announcement a couple of days ago that THQ have snagged the rights to release Capcom's titles here in Australia. What does this mean? Well the games will bloody well hit the shelves now after being in limbo for months. In fact, Onimusha Warlords, which is one of the biggest sellers to date in Japan, is already available in stores. Expect the previously canned title, Street Fighter EX3 to be available in a few weeks time.
August 1, 2001
Sony have confirmed that they will be releasing a Gran Turismo 3 bundle with the official steering wheel. The bundle will be limited supply and will have a RRP of $249.95. The company will also be releasing a Playstation 2 bundle with Gran Turismo 3 for $AU749, meaning you only pay $50 for what is set to become the biggest game ever. Sounds pretty good to me.
Sony has announced a couple of slight delays. Sadly their impressive RPG Dark Cloud has been pushed back from August to September 21st. Time Crisis 2 has been pushed from a loose October date to November 2nd, with the GunCon2 to be released on the same day. On a bright note a few other dates have been pencilled in. The biggest game is probably Wipeout Fusion which is now November while Criterion's action racing game, Airblade has also been listed as November. Oh, if you still don't know Gran Turismo 3 is set for September 10... wait a sec.. I mean August 10.
While Gran Turismo 3 is selling well in Japan and America, the UK is not being left behind. In the first 2 days on the shelves the game shifted a whopping 120,000 units, about 30,000 more then anticipated. Only 10 more days for Australia. According to a report in the CTW News Digest, Gran Turismo 3 A-spec sold a whopping 120,000 copies in the very first two days of availability in the U.K. This exceeds even the most optimistic of expectations and is about 30,000 more copies than first projected by retail analysts.
I have updated the Upcoming Games with all the latest release dates from all distributors here in Australia.
Well the beginning of another month means we are onto another poll on the Main Page. This month I have a selection of action movies which have been sadly overlooked for conversion to a video game. This is your chance to let the world know what you want to play.
