Sorry, I meant AFL Live 2004 reviews!

Cricket 2004 reviews on other sites have been more negative than yours. :D

I agree on that point Phantom.

If they want to make an AFL Live 2005/2006, they'll have to do 'alot' of improving. But, yes, I'd rather own AFL Live 2004 than AFL Live 2003.
They should give themselves more time to make thier games like Cricket 2004 (18 months) or else there is a big rush at the end and errors and bugs etc won't be checked like this game.

Phantom Posted - 30/11/2003 : 20:48:56
Put it this way. I would rather have the game then not, but it certainly should have been more improved given what was accomplished in the first game and with the extra 12 months development time.

Fantastic review Phantom. You couldn't be more accurate. Ha ha ha, I wouldn't even bother writing a review for AFL Live 2004... but you gotta say, it isn't that much of a bad game.

Loko Posted - 12/10/2003 : 00:35:34
i found a cheat on several sites saying

quote:
At start menu press: square, square, square, triangle, triangle, triangle and then circle, circle, circle, up, up, up, down, left, left. If you did it correctly, a sound will play to indicate the cheat is active.

But it does not work if anyone has found it works please explain how

Awesome flakemore23! They are acutally doing something good about the problems by exchanging old ones for the new.
I havn't had the same problem as Loko has.
It is funny how at the end of the quarter, the person who is holding the ball instantly drops it on the ground without eg giving it to the umpire... good reflexes too!

"UNCORKING THE GENIE" hahahaha, that one made me laugh. I love the game though.

The Wierdest Thing Happened I Was Playing 5 Minute quaters and my 1st quater went for 27 minutes (with continous clock) and the next quater wasnt even 5 minutes it was something like 3 minutes 49 seconds.
Has Anyone Else Had This Problam?

duffarama Posted - 06/10/2003 : 16:57:35
I don't really know what is happening, but I am not complaining about the game and I am also not going to get a new, fixed copy.
They probably can't reply because they are getting emails from hundreds of other people who are complaining about the game.
If I was an IRGURUS programmer I certainly wouldn't reply to the emails but I would have got people to check for bugs before it was released etc.

I swear I own it Loko! I bought so I could see my Navy Blue Boys actually win a match or two :)

Did you do anything to turn the arrow system on? - I swear there is just one green arrow pointing toward my goals! I've tried every setting I can....but nothing will breath life into my poor limp pointer! (ahem)

Does anyone else have this problem??? Surely I can't be the only one!

crowsman98 Posted - 09/09/2003 : 12:48:25
Got the game myself. The only thing that is important in computer games is the Gameplay. I admit I am disappointed with the full season mode, that you cannot change the squad but you can in single game.

What the heck, what you guys want cost money. IR Guru is on a budget and not to forget to mention the contract. I wouldn't blame IR Guru, they have put alot of time and effort into the game. They've done heaps of work and their work had to be completed by at least September this year.

Under the contract which I heard that acclaim and IR Guru signed for 4 years, so according to profits of the game, it's better to sell durning season rather then off-season. We probably don't care when the game comes out unless it's free of bugs, etc but according to the public not many people would buy the game. For example if the game is realeased durning season the sales would be close to 50,000 but if it was off season the sales could be a lot less maybe 20,000. The reason for this, is that every game sales AFL 2004 sell, profits go to IR Guru to start upgrading the game.

Love the mission, but would be better if it used real players from those missions but you all know copyrights cost money. So I am happy to buy the game at full price to help support IR Guru.

You guys and gals out there expect EA Sports to take over, is that really what you want. You want to give your profits to america? Is that what you want. Look at Bill Gates he just won't stop and he's earning millions of dollars a day. But hey I don't want AFL games to profit overseas. IR Guru is Australian and we all should support Australian made football with Australian made computer programer.

Just be patience. Your time will come. FIFA at first was crap I must say. I scored 10 goals or more a game and goalkeepers was crap. It was like putting a little rugrat in the centre of the net trying to save every ball. What about today? FIFA is as exciting then the first.

So that mean if AFL 2004 is 10 times better then AFL 2003 then AFL 2005 will be 20 times better then 2004, but it takes time.

In the next few years I would expect :-

Missions with real players from the past.
All the Stadiums including create-a-stadium mode.
Draft and Trades.
Create-a-player mode.
Create-a-team mode.
VFL, SANFL, WAFL, SAFL, QAFL teams and many more.
Real career mode.
Brownlow Medal count with 3-2-1 votes.
Interview with media from coach and players.
International Rules with All-Australian vs Ireland.

Please think about what AFL games would look like if it was made from the 70s. AFL 2004 is 100 percent better then that Atari games.

Thank you for reading and I hope you all understnnd what I mean. My rating for AFL 2004 is 8 / 10

noyboy74 Posted - 09/09/2003 : 09:39:07
This is not a finished game...this has been rushed out before the season is over and we all start thinking of cricket...Don't reward the businessmen who made the decision to release this junk now rather than when it was finished. I love AFL football - but this is the worst game ever to grace the Playstation 2...Why?

The worst problem that I have found is the arrow system....It's supposed to show who's available in what direction (Green is open - red is contested), but it just doesn't work. It just stays fixed on your goals...no life whatsoever. This makes every disposal a guess (don't forget - there is no mini-map). This also makes free kicks and kick-outs impossible. Your better off just sprinting straight towards the goals from the bounce and kicking a torpedo - my last game (ever) I kicked 25.2 using this strategy...I'm sure Gerard Healy will NEVER comment on me over-using the ball...You may as well leave the ruck and a rover on the field - and tell everyone else to hit the change rooms early....there is no reward or even mechanism for moving the ball successfully except running straight and hoping you don't get tackled before your Hail Mary...

Unfortunately every other problem you've read on this board is true...something I really didn't want to believe...

The saddest thing about all of this is that these are SIMPLE problems that the coders (which I'm sure are footy loving hard working people) at IR would have sorted in a matter of weeks....but this time the "marketing window" won out....so instead of having a solid game bought by footy fans, shared with all of our mates, and building a fan base for a successful franchise (and the dollars they reap) - they now have maximum exposure, and everyone who have been sucked in (including me) will be more than happy to tell even more people to (and it hurts to say it)...STAY AWAY...

another problem that i have come across is that when playing a full season with st kilda (i dont know if it is with every team). in the last round adelaide play like 5 games, the round is as follows.

st kilda v geelong
hawks v melbourne
adelaide v brisbane
adelaide v adelaide
adelaide v adelaide
adelaide v adelaide
adelaide v adelaide

that may not be excatly right but its the best i can remember off the top of my head.
this is the worst bug i have ever seen in a game.

Phantom Posted - 06/09/2003 : 18:19:17
Well sadly I still don't have my copy. According to Acclaim they have some "delays" with the press copies (and replenishment stock for stores). Is that trying to say something? Not sure. But I'm heading off to a mates place tomorrow to steal his copy for a few hours.

I have sent an e-mail to my contacts at acclaim regarding the changing players in full season. Expect a response on Monday/Tuesday hopefully.

Yeah hi guys i am new here.

I went out to buy afl live 2004 on ps2 on 28/08 because i pre-ordered it had no prob getting it. pre order is good lol.

now back to the game some faults or dislikes i have noticed no showing of the premiership cup with the winning side jezz they played 26 games for a imagenary cup. no norm smith, no clubs best and fairest, speccies that are in mid air with no one round the player (should have noticed that one) and most of all no previous career stats ie. goals, games all players start with none.
if i got any wrong plz feel free to tell me.

i believe ea or some one with real money should buy the rights because a good afl came WILL earn money.

other than that still entertaining to see great players go head-to-head. GO EDDIE.

Don't believe what you read.
duffarama Posted - 04/09/2003 : 18:23:07
Yeah, I have got the PC version now and they have no bugs. The player selection thing is fixed! Yeah! I don't need a patch now.
Imagine how good it would be if you could download a patch through your PS2? (For all you guys who don't have it on PC)

The game is great exept for the things that people have already pointed out. If people just forget about the bugs, you'll notice that IRGurus have put in alot of effort into the game. I really wouldn't want IRGurus to stop making AFL games because no other company would bother doing it (especially EA Sports now).
The stadiums are really well modelled in the game compared to AFL Live 2003!
Enjoy playing AFL Live 2004. It rocks!

srekcan Posted - 03/09/2003 : 22:12:47
i must say that the afl 2004 game is fantastic! but i must also say that i am extreamly dissapointed at some aspects of the game.

they include:

the major bug in full season mode which doesnt allow you to change your team.

the way the kick outs from full back count as a possession. as this makes the full back in your side receive the 3 votes for best on ground if he has to kick out more than 5 times!

there are more faults that i can not think of right now but these are very annoying. although the game is 10 times better than the last one. these bugs take away from the fun of being able to control the side.

what are everyones thoughts?
